The water line was only buried 3.9 feet from grade, not 6 feet as originally determined by water company engineers. The 29 inch x 42 inch sewer was removed and two 18 Inch x 29 inch· corrugated lines were Installed. This allowed the new sewer to pass atop the water line. A new street catch basin had to be installed, since the existing catch basin interferred with the new sewer line which had to be adjusted due to interferences with existing gas lines. C. J. Mabardy, the capping contractor has installed the Silresim Site run-off . 36-inch-diameter sewer . line to River Meadow Brook, including the catch . basin on site. The site contours· are being brought up to grade. The contractor h•s installed 3600 cubic yards of bank run gravel. Total required is about 4400 cubic yards. The contour swale was moved to compensate for Interferences with an existing foundation mat. the contractor has been on site 27 days, with a 55-day completion schedule. Meetings were held with EPA Region I concerning the capping of the site. Weather conditions (freezing) will hamper efforts to meet capping compaction specifications. Meetings were held with the contractor to discuss capping.

2. Problems Resolved:

Installation of the sewer line resulted in major interferences. The 29 inch x 42 inch corrugated sewer ran directly into the 12-inch-diameter water lin& in the street. The water line was only buried 3.9 feet from grade, not 6 feet as·~ originally determined by water company engineers. Meetings with the contractor regarding the capping were conducted. The contractor will try to meet capping specifications but ·will shut down If poor weather conditions prevail.

3. Anticipated Problem Areas and Recommended Solutions:

The major preble~ is the capping of the site. The specifications clearly define requirements. Inclement weather (freezing, rain, snow) definitely affects proper compaction. ll Is recommended that capping be deferred until warmer weather appears. The Contractor indicated he will shut down during • adverse weather conditions. The bulk storage tanks are still being stored until documents are instituted for public sale.
