Initial Idea Feedback

Even in the early stages of the coursework journey it is vital to get feedback and advice for every idea and project. Here is our initial ideas: Me and Charlotte both agreed that we wanted our music video to feature people having fun. We want our audience to watch our music video and wish they was in it taking part. We feel that when people are having fun the audience themselves will enjoy the video, and this is very important. We liked the idea of festivals and theme parks and places people have the best times and make the most memories. Therefore we researched songs that were about being adventurous and having a good time. Sigma and Ella Henderson's song 'Glitterball' has this exact theme and we feel that our ideas will suit it perfectly. There are other songs such as Sam Feldt 'Show me love' and Ella Eyre 'We don't have to take our clothes off' which also would contrast well with our chosen theme. The visuals in our music video are very important therefore we need to make sure we look like we are having the time of our lives. When explaining our initial ideas to our teachers they were very enthusiastic and pleased that our ideas followed the code and conventions of pop music videos, they said that we were showing lots of creativity very early on in the coursework process and as long as we maintain this creative attitude we would succeed with our year 13 coursework. It is always nice to here positive feedback however improvements can always be made and with initial ideas questions were also raised such as; 1.What song are you going to choose? 2. what is your concept? This concept needs to be clear. And 3.What costumes will you choose? These costumes need to fit the chosen locations and settings. 4.Who will feature in your music video? Will you have a main lead focus or groups of people and narrative or both? Our teachers said we had got off to a good start but now we had to conquer the raised issues and answer the questions given to us. Criticism is good and it is important to have a good open-minded attitude to constructive criticism as it is only given to help us do the best we can. We took on our feedback from the teachers. Firstly we sat down and decided what song we wanted to do and what song we felt we would be able to work best with and come up with the best ideas for, after discussing this we chose to do Glitterball by Ella Henderson ft Sigma. We then decided to have a clear concept of love in our music video which seemed quite typical however this simple concept would give us more opportunities to be extra creative whilst constructing our music video, and we would make it clear with the use of love hearts and relationships. We then started thinking about who would feature in our music video and we decided we did want a main female lead and this would be Bryony however we did want a variety of people in our music video as well. We then went on to think about costumes and we decided we wanted our music video to have a sparkle to it and with this idea it allowed us to explore costumes and pick glittery items so we then chose a sparkly princess dress as we wanted this particular scene to be magical and have a fairy-tale feel. We also wanted festival clothing featured as we wanted a festival location.

In the construction process it is sometimes hard to stick to initial ideas however we did stick to our original concept of love and expressed this concept through the use of relationships and love hearts.

We also stuck with our initial idea to use a sparkly princess dress as one of our main costumes which ended up being our favorite shots in our final music video. Without guidance and feedback from our teachers in the earliest stages we wouldnt have been as successful when it came to constructing our final product and putting it together. As well as getting feedback from our teachers we spoke with some other groups with in our class and shared ideas and gave advice to one another and without this we wouldnt have came up with all our costumes and ideas as they told us honestly what they thought of our initial ideas and costume ideas and agreed or suggested otherwise.

Overall our initial idea feedback gave us the perfect foundation in order to build upon and reach the goals we had in place for ourselves. We learnt so much when gaining feedback from our initial ideas that it taught us how important it is to get this constructive criticism the whole way through our coursework. It taught us that our teachers, due to their experience and profession, know what they are talking about and are only trying to help us so it is vital that we took on board what they said and didnt get defensive or offended by what they are saying to us but to just go away and improve on what we already had. It is also important to be independent when it comes to coursework and use your initiative as even though the teachers and our fellow class mates are very supportive and always there to give advice it is your own work and we wanted us as a group to shine through our final product and for it to be our own work. We learnt that we would have to be prepared to be knocked because trial and improvement is a significant part of the coursework journey and even if we were to be knocked we would get back up and improve because our audience want to help and ensure we do the best we can and this was good to know as this is what we want for ourselves.
