Matrices of Bibliographic Data Elements

Matrices correlating type of record, bibliographic level, and data elements:

• ‘M’ - data element is mandatory, must be always entered for the associated type of record

• ‘P’ - data element must be entered if the information is present;- also permission to include information even if it is not present in the publication itself, e.g. a CODEN

• ‘F’ - data element is forbidden and should not be used for this type of record
