7 Session 4. Panel discussion: How can Spanish companies contribute to a more competitive infrastructure sector in Australia? The Government’s perspective
Chairman: Brendan Lyon, Chief Executive, Infrastructure Partnerships Australia
David Quinn, Executive Director, Projects Queensland
The Australian infrastructure industry is experiencing a steady process of opening up to foreign competition. The Australian Government has been proactive in attracting new entrants in order to take advantage of their globally-tested technical skills and know-how. This, in turn, has had a favourable outcome in terms of enhancing competition to the benefit of taxpayers. Spanish companies have had a leading role in this process and are successfully contributing to the development of major infrastructure projects. This session will address the Australian Government’s view on the infrastructure industry, its perception of the competition climate and its expectations of newcomers, particularly, Spanish companies.
