    Carbon Infrared EmittersDisinfect Quickly and Reliably

    All baking trays, conveyors and baking equipment in a

    bakery must be hygienically perect at all times.

    The elimination o mildew and ungal growth is always

    the frst priority. Carbon inrared emitters CIR rom

    Heraeus Noblelight disinect simply, quickly and saely.

    Inrared radiation transers large amounts o energy

    in a very short time. Inrared disinection is thermal

    disinection, using controlled heat. The emitters direct

    their heat precisely where it is required and or only as

    long as needed. That prevents equipment as well as thebaked goods rom heat damage.

    A study* at the Bremerhaven Institute or Food Technology

    and Bioprocess Technology in October 2005 showed that

    carbon inrared emitters kill germs reliably and practically.

    In addition, thick spore layers, porous suraces and

    dust particles pose no problem to the eectiveness o

    carbon inrared. The deep-acting carbon inrared

    radiation even penetrates porous materials and multi-layer

    Cost-effective disinfection

    Disinection with carbon inrared emitters is reliable and

    practical. The efcient emitters help to save time and

    operating costs in bakery plants.

    Extended maintenance intervals

    Inrared heat also dries the carrying cloths used inbakeries. As a result, the useul lie o these carrying

    cloths is signifcantly extended, considerably reducing

    replacement costs. This saves maintenance costs and

    time, especially when a bakery plant is operated around

    the clock.

    Requirements met

    The studies showed that baking trays are disinected by

    carbon inrared emitters at just 130140 C in less than

    30 seconds. Depending on the emitter power, the

    humidity and the desired speed, the germ reduction is

    achieved within 10 to 30 seconds between 120 and

    160C. By the use o carbon inrared emitters the

    requirements o the EU hygiene regulations can be met.

    The Technology

    Carbon inrared emitters CIR combine the highly

    eective heat radiation in the medium wave range

    with the ability to provide sufciently high power densities.

    Response times o the order o seconds provide or

    extremely good controllability. Consequently, heat

    is applied or only as long as required. Drying and

    disinection cycles can be programmed and, in the event

    o a conveyor belt stoppage, overheating o the baked

    items or the baking plant itsel is prevented. The compactconstruction o an inrared system also allows retroftting

    o inrared disinection into existing machinery.

    Practically-based Tests

    Experience has shown that it is benefcial to test the

    material and application in conditions as near to those

    ound in practice as possible. So the optimum emitter

    or the heating process can be determined.

    Heraeus Nobelight has established Applications Centres

    to gather new knowledge though investigation and to

    share experiences with customers. Only when you know

    and understand the dierent applications can you use

    inrared productively.

    Technically qualifed personnel carry out the tests.Customers can bring along their own materials and

    have access to an extensive results database, with over

    500 documented tests with ood to provide design reerence

    points. IR test modules are also available to allow on-site

    tests to be carried out at customers own premises.
