• Best source – Australian bureau of statistics

relating to persons, families, and dwellings. Covers general topics

• Census data (2006) – Access to data tables


Question: How would I find out how many children in the 5-9 year age

group were residing in New South Wales in 2006?

Answer: Go to the ABS site and search the 2006 census data


Go to www.abs.gov.au:

• Select Census Data tab

• Choose 2006 Census Tables

• View Tables by Topic

• Select Age by Sex

• Select Location – enter New South Wales

• Download the table (Excel format)

• Answer = 431, 924
