What we do

It takes a (bayside) village to raise a child

Play your part and support our learning community

Whilst the proverb may originate in Africa, the

sentiment it contains reverberates in our bayside

community. You can help us continue the journey or

learning excellence by supporting our commitment to

developing our children’s knowledge, skills,

capabilities and values.

Who we are

The Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) is an

inclusive community of parents/carers, educators and

representatives. We welcome open and robust

dialogue to create a sustainable environment for the

enrichment of our children’s education.

Our objective, as an Association, is "to promote the

interests of, and facilitate the development and further

improvement of the School". How we do this is just as

important as what we accomplish and our Code of

Conduct has been adopted to aid all members of our

school community to work as a well ordered group.

Through the P&C’s activities our parents, carers and

volunteers continue to make an incredible contribution

to the school each and every day in the following

areas:

• Cafeteria (MEGA-Bite)

• Bayside Awareness & Safety Education (BASE)

• Student Banking

• Uniform Shop, and

• Wynnum Wahoo’s Amateur Swim Club.

In addition to fundraising activities throughout the year,

we also employ a swim coach – Bayside Swim School

– to offer Learn to Swim and Squad sessions for our

local community.

When we meet

Please check the school website or our Facebook

page for more details as the dates often move to

reflect the content of each meeting

An open invitation The P&C does not expect every one of our members

to attend every meeting or get involved with every

fundraising activity we undertake.

We respect your choice to be engaged and hope that

through our membership, we can offer you the

opportunity to be informed of activities, programs and

events that are relevant to your child’s experience at

Wynnum State School.

We look forward to getting to know you and working

together.

Best wishes

Help us make a real difference

We’re inviting you to have a go and get involved

Volunteers are essential to the provision of the

following services. Be part of our energetic and

passionate team of volunteers!

Cafeteria (known as “MEGA-Bite”)

The school cafeteria, MEGA-Bite, is operated by the P&C with the assistance of staff and volunteers.

We understand the important role a cafeteria plays in

helping children learn about nutrition. Our cafeteria is

in a unique position to make a positive, worthwhile

contribution to our students' health and welfare by:

• promoting a healthy school community

• assisting in developing health promoting

eating habits in children • reinforcing the principles of classroom

nutrition education

• providing a variety of nutritious and attractively

presented foods and drinks at a reasonable

price

• providing a service to the school community

• providing an opportunity for parents/carers

to participate in their children's education

environment and • operating at a reasonable profit for the benefit

of the school and, in turn, each child.

MEGA-Bite is open three days a week – Mondays,

Thursdays and Fridays. Australian currency is accepted

and we offer EFTPOS for payment of orders, or pre-

ordering through www.flexischools.com.au.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays, when the

Cafeteria does not offer a full service,

a Snack Service is offered between

8:30am – 9:00am. Students can

purchase a $5 snack pack, which

consists of a juice box, popcorn, a

piece of fruit, a muffin and a ‘le snak’

(cheese and crackers).

Our menu and operating hours are published on the

school’s website – Click on Facilities / Canteen - and

also distributed in hard copy to students in Term 1.

Bayside Awareness & Safety

Education (BASE) Our Bayside Awareness & Safety Education (BASE)

program is operated by the P&C to help ensure a safe

environment for children and young people.

As a subcommittee the program has a structure,

annually electing an Operating Committee who meet

regularly with members to ensure effective

communication and continuously improve safety

education for all.

Safety matters are taught in a positive manner,

imparting a genuine enthusiasm for student

involvement resulting in an awareness that helps our

youngest citizens prepare to journey safely through

life.

We can all help to keep our children safe!

• Write your child’s name and address on

the inside of his/her school bag rather than

outside. • Ensure your child knows what to do if you are

late and someone unfamiliar arrives to pick

them up from school.

Page 4: Information Kit - wynnumss.eq.edu.au › SupportAndResources › ... · improve their swimming skills, whilst having fun safely together. Swimmers of all ages and abilities from both

Student Banking

Student banking is a free service to students and their

siblings at Wynnum State School. The program allows

them to make regular deposits, each week into their

Commonwealth Bank account at school.

This is a great way to encourage students to save money

and develop healthy savings habits. No amount is too

small to deposit - every little bit adds up!

The Youthsaver account has no fees and pays bonus

interest when there is at least one deposit and no

withdrawals in a month.

• For children aged 0-9 years the account is linked

to the Dollarmites Club, with a special website full

of fun activities, games, competitions, and

savings tips.

• For children 10-13 years their account is linked

to Rule, specially designed to appeal to their

age group.

Wynnum State School also benefits as the bank pays a commission to the school on all the student deposits:

• 5% of every deposit (up to a maximum of $10

commission per individual deposit) made each

week, and

• $5 for every child that opens a Youthsaver

Account via the School Banking Program.

This commission equates to several hundred dollars a

year; which can be used to buy new books, equipment,

and various other items the school needs.

Wynnum Wahoos Swim Club The Amateur Swim Club, Wynnum Wahoos, is operated

by the P&C with the assistance of volunteers and

supplements the basic swimming program offered by the

school.

As a subcommittee the club has a structure, annually

electing a Chair, Treasurer and Secretary who meet

regularly with club members to ensure effective

communication and continuously improve the swimming

experience for all.

The Wynnum Wahoos offers a family friendly atmosphere

where each child is encouraged to participate and

improve their swimming skills, whilst having fun safely

together.

Swimmers of all ages and abilities from both Wynnum

State School and the wider community are welcome,

however, children must be accompanied and

supervised by an adult at all times.

The club operates from the Memorial Pool at Wynnum

State School each Friday night during Terms 1 and 4.

Gates open at 6:00pm for a 6:30pm start.

You can learn more about the Wynnum Wahoos at

www.wynnumss.eq.edu.au. Click on the Extra

Curricular tab and select ‘Clubs and societies’ to find

our Membership Form and club brochure.
