Medical and Professional ServicesThe following inpatient and outpatient departments are available, as directed by your physician. The brief descriptions here are designed to help you become aware of the many services offered by the Hospital and the roles that each department’s personnel play in restoring and maintaining your good health. Please keep this list for convenient future reference.

Outpatient Registration is located on the Hospital’s second floor. We are open from Monday through Friday 6:30a.m. to 5:30p.m., and Saturday from 7:00a.m. to noon. After hours, please register in the Emergency Department. Please call 412-777-6180 with questions.

We also have an Outpatient Registration area on the second floor of the Medical Office Building; open Monday through Friday, 6:00a.m. to noon.

Acute Rehabilitation UnitThe Acute Rehabilitation Unit provides comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation services. We offer the highest quality programs to improve our patients’ functional independence. Potential candidates are patients who have suffered from function deficits resulting from strokes; neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, hip fractures, major multiple traumas; and amputations.

We are located on the Hospital’s third floor.

Cardiac Catheterization LaboratoryThe Cardiac Catheterization Lab performs heart catheterizations as well as peripheral angioplasty/stenting and pacemaker insertions. Many procedures may be done on an outpatient basis. Procedures are performed by experienced cardiologists and surgeons.

Cardiac Rehabilitation ProgramOVH’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is anoutpatient service helping patients get their heart health back after heart surgery or disease. The program combines exercise, nutritional counselingand risk-factor education to promote a return to a healthy and active lifestyle. Patients must be referred to the Cardiac Rehabilitation Programby their physician.

Cardiology ServicesThe Cardiology Department performs a wide range of non-invasive diagnostic tests to detect and evaluate heart problems. These tests include electrocardiograms (EKG), exercise stress tests, echocardiograms, 24-hour holter monitors and electroencephalograms (EEG). Results are reviewed and interpreted by physicians specializing in cardiology.

The Cataract & Eye Surgery CenterThe Cataract & Eye Surgery Center is a same-day surgery program providing excellence in glaucoma, low-vision, corneal and anterior segment eye surgeries.

Critical Care SuiteOhio Valley’s Critical Care Suite provides care to patients who require special monitoring or more intensive nursing care.

Emergency DepartmentPhysicians and nurses are on duty in our Emergency Department 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Our department features 17 treatment areas with state-of-the-art emergency medical equipment and full Hospital back-up. Services in this area range from treatment of illness or injury to programs for severe, life threatening situations, including our new stroke telemedicine program. When patients appear to have stroke-related symptoms, we have 24-7 access to neurologists. This prompt treatment can save brain function and reduce stroke-related disabilities.

LaboratoryOVH’s Laboratory is open for inpatient services 24 hours a day. Outpatient testing hours are Monday through Friday from 6:30a.m. to 7:00p.m., Saturday from 7:00a.m. to noon and Sunday from 8:00a.m. to noon. No appointment is necessary for blood work ordered by your physician.

We are accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP).

Medical/Surgical UnitThe Medical/Surgical Unit provides care to patients who require care after surgery. Our unit also helps patients recover from a variety of illnesses.

Nuclear MedicineThe Nuclear Medicine Department conducts internal imaging of organs and tissue. Some testing may require fasting. If so, this will be explained to you when your appointment is made. We are open from 6:00a.m. to 3:30p.m., Monday through Friday. Outpatient appointments must be made in advance. An on-call technician is available 24 hours a day for emergency procedures.

Occupational Medicine-BusinessFitBusinessFit is a program designed to help our local companies control their medical costs. We do this by providing health care services ranging from employment physicals and workers’ compensation management to drug and alcohol, vision and hearing testing. We are located in Suite 210 of the Medical Office Building.

Orthopedic UnitOur state of the art Orthopedic Unit works with patients going in for, during, and post knee and hip joint replacement surgery. We offer classes and information on how to prepare for surgery. Specially trained physicians and staff perform the surgery, and our Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy gym helps inpatients with the initial recovery. During this time, patients are also able to stay in private rooms, with a low patient-to-nurse ratio. Follow up care is available after discharge.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation Health Center Ohio Valley’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation Health Center is designed for patients who experience a significant decline in their functioning lifestyle as a result of lung disease. The program focuses on physical fitness, endurance training, education and emotional support for ourpatients. Eligible patients will finish the program in six to twelve weeks, attending two to three times per week.

RadiologyOutpatient Radiology Services at Ohio Valley Hospital are accommodated through physician referral. These services include CT Scans using our new, cutting-edge low-dose CT scanner, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), PET Scans, mammography and ultrasound testing. Testing is available from 7:00a.m. to 7:00p.m. Dexa bone density testing is offered from 8:00a.m. to 2:00p.m. All tests must be scheduled by appointment. Services for Emergency Department patients are available 24 hours a day. We are located on the Hospital’s second floor.For information and/or scheduling, call 412-777-6257. Rehabilitation ServicesThe Rehabilitation Services department offersPhysical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy after an injury, illness or surgery. Our department specialties include the treatment oforthopedic, work-related or hand injuries. We offer treatment in neurological disorders and swallowing and voice disorders. Our Balance Center utilizes state-of-the-art equipment to help patients retain balance and work on fall prevention. Appointments may be scheduled Monday through Thursday from 7:00a.m. to 5:30p.m., Friday from 8:00a.m. to 3:30p.m. Inpatient rehabilitation services are provided seven days a week. We are located on the Hospital’s second floor. Comprehensive inpatient services are also available at the Acute Rehabilitation Unit on the Hospital’s third floor.Call 412-777-6231 for more information or to schedule an appointment.

Respiratory ServicesRespiratory Services care practitioners provide therapeutic and diagnostic services related to the treatment of patients with lung or breathing problems. Services include breathing treatments, oxygenadministration and assessment, pulmonary function tests, bronchoscopy and ventilator care. Results of diagnostic tests are reviewed and interpreted by physicians specializing in lung disorders. Sleep LabThe Sleep Lab is an outpatient service specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. If you suffer from excessive daytime sleepiness, loud snoring, gasping or choking during sleep, morning headaches or have high blood pressure, you may have a sleep disorder. Results of the test are reviewed by physicians specializing in sleep medicine. Referrals for testing may be made by your primary care physician.

Surgical SuiteEach year, more than 4,000 surgical procedures are performed in Ohio Valley Hospital’s six operating rooms and Cystoscopy suite using leading-edgetechnology and minimally invasive techniques. Surgeons at OVH are now using state-of-the-art robotic-assisted surgery for a variety of surgeries, including gall bladder, hernia, and gynecological procedures. More than half of those procedures are coordinated through Surgery Today, Ohio Valley Hospital’s one-day outpatient surgery program.

Our Critical Care and Outpatient suites are located on the Hospital’s fourth floor.

Willow Brook Geropsychiatric UnitOur Geropsychiatric Unit provides acute inpatient services to seniors who have mental health needs. Our goal is to provide a safe, therapeutic environment that allows people to maintain as much normalcy in their everyday routines as possible. Our team works with Ohio Valley Hospital’s medical staff to ensure that both medical and psychiatric needs are cohesively met. If you are looking for outpatient psychiatric care, please see page 7.

Ohio Valley Pain Treatment CenterAt Ohio Valley Pain Treatment Center, our team of pain management experts is dedicated to helping you fully understand your pain, develop a plan to reach your treatment goals, and help you stop your suffering. We treat a number of pain conditions, including lower back, neck, musculoskeletal and joint pain. We can also help with sports or motor vehicle injuries.

The Wound Care Center®

The Wound Care Center® specializes in the treatment of chronic, non healing wounds. We utilize state-of-the-art technologies to promote healing, and offer the latest therapeutic procedures. Both of our facilities also utilize Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, which enhances your body’s natural healing process by the inhalation of 100% oxygen in a total body chamber.

School of NursingThe Ohio Valley Hospital School of Nursing (OVHSON) was established in 1901 as a three year diploma program. Since then, it has been our ongoing goal to provide an educational and clinical environment where prospective nurses will be challenged and motivated to achieve their best.

OVHSON can assist you in achieving a rewarding career with endless opportunities. Affiliated with La Roche College, we offer small classes with individualized attention. Students are immersed in a balanced, accelerated curriculum that provides both theory and skill-based learning. OVHSON also offers up to 10 full-tuition scholarships annually. We believe that if you want to be a great nurse,there’s no better place to begin than right here. Our program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, and fully approved by the State Board of Nursing and the Department of Education.

School of Radiography The Ohio Valley Hospital School of Radiography has proudly provided students with an excellent education for more than 50 years. In affiliation with La Roche College, we offer a 24-month associates degree in Health Science, with a concentration in Radiologic Technology. Upon completion, students are eligible to take the national certification examination administered by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists. Our program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology.

Medical Office BuildingOur Medical Office Building is home to a long list of physician offices and laboratory services. Our BusinessFit office is located on the second floor in Suite 210. For your convenience, the Express Med Pharmacy is located in Suite 110 of the Medical Office Building. It is open Monday through Friday from 9:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. Please call 412-771-2149 with questions or prescriptions.

For more than 35 years, Ohio Valley Hospital

has partnered with Kennedy Township to host a

community 5K. The Ohio Valley Hospital/Kennedy

Township 5K is a challenging 3.1 miles with many

hills, but runners and walkers of all ages enjoy

being out on the course “for the Hill of it!” Several

Courtesy Van ServiceOVH offers a free ride to and from Ohio Valley Hospital facilities. The van service is offered to patients living within a 10 mile radius of the hospital. You must call 24 hours in advance to make an appointment.

Free Blood Pressure ScreeningsFree blood pressure screenings are available in our Emergency Department at any time, with no appointment necessary.

Health Check Blood ScreeningWe offer a low-cost, preventative blood screening that includes a CBC, CMP, Lipid Profile, and A1c test. The cost of our Health Check is just $30, and no prescription is required. Fasting for 12-14 hours (water only) is suggested for accurate results. No appointment necessary!

Testing is available in our laboratory Monday through Friday, 7:00a.m.-3:00p.m., excluding holidays. We also have an Outpatient Registration area and a blood draw location on the second floor of the Medical Office Building.

Living Well with DiabetesOur “Living Well With Diabetes” program is designed to help empower people with Type 1, Type 2, Gestational diabetes, or those who are pre-diabetic. We want to help you lead a healthier lifestyle. “Living Well With Diabetes”

is accredited by the American Diabetes Association and offers self-management training through individual consultations and group education classes. Daytime and evening appointments are available to fit your schedule. You must have a physician referral; most insurance companies will cover the cost of these visits. For a

Diabetes Support GroupOur Diabetes Support Group meets throughout the year. This is a group for people to share ideas and stories about life with diabetes. Each meeting, a short talk by a health professional helps to start the conversation aboutdiabetic resources, coping strategies, medication, nutrition or exercise.
