HSO FAIR HOUSING In April, we come together as a community and a nation to
celebrate the anniversary of the passing of the Fair Housing
Act (Title VIII Of the Civil Rights Act of 1968). The Act
eliminates housing discrimination and creates equal
opportunity in housing for every community
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development (HUD), the campaign includes efforts to end
housing discrimination and raise awareness of fair housing
rights in communities across the country
The prohibitions specifically covers discrimination in housing
because of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability
and the presence of children, also known as protected classes

HSO FAIR HOUSING HUD investigates complaints of housing discrimination based
on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, disability, or familial
status
The categories with the highest number of complaints were
disability and race
Increased instances of discrimination faced by women,
members of the LGBT community and families with children
In 2016 HUD received 8,289 complaints
HUD and US Department of Justice (DOJ) reached
agreements or settlements with over 40 property owners
ranging from 100K to1M dollars awarded to complainants
.

Continuing Medical Education Day at BACH April 14
• Blanchfield Army Community Hospital (BACH) personnel will receive
annual continuing medical education April 14
• Primary and specialty care services will not be open leading into Easter
• Town Center Pharmacy will operate normal business hours April 14 and
15, but all other pharmacies will be closed on Good Friday
• The hospital remains open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days
a year for emergency services, inpatient care, and labor and delivery
services

• Town Center Pharmacy will be closed Saturday, April 29
• Allows for scheduled network upgrades that will make the pharmacy’s
information technology applications unavailable
• Blanchfield’s IT team is slated to upgrade network applications throughout
the spring
• Upgrades scheduled for dates and times with least impact on patient care
• Impossible to make all upgrades without impacting the hospital’s busiest
pharmacy – the Town Center Pharmacy
• Town Center will reopen Monday, May 1, during normal operating hours

What is Distracted Driving?
Distracted driving is any activity that could divert a person’s attention away
from the primary task of driving. All distractions endanger driver,
passenger, and bystander safety. These types of distractions include:
• Texting
• Using a cell phone
• Eating and drinking
• Talking to passengers
• Grooming
• Reading, including maps
• Using navigation systems
• Watching a video (Also illegal in of itself)
• Adjusting a radio or other media device

Key Facts• 3,477 people were killed and 391,000 injured in motor vehicle crashes
involving distracted drivers in 2015.
• 10 percent of fatal crashes and 15 percent of injury crashes of all vehicle
crashes reported in 2015 were reported as distraction-affected crashes
• Since 2007, Young drivers, 16 to 24 years old, use of handheld electronic
devices while driving is at higher rates than older drivers.
• Nine percent of all drivers, 15 to 19 years old, involved in fatal crashes
were reported as being distracted at the time of the crashes in 2015.
• Handheld cellphone use is highest among, female drivers 15 to 39 years
old are most at-risk for a fatal crash involving a distracted driver.
• Female drivers have been more likely to be involved in fatal distracted
driving crashes as compared to male drivers every year since 2011.
