Driver Personal Fit Features

Your vehicle is equipped with anadjustable tilt and telescoping steeringwheel, power height adjust driver’s seat,and power adjustable pedals (except onBase models). This combination of fea-tures allows optimum positioning of thedriver for both comfort and safety.1. Seating AdjustmentAdjust the seat fore/aft, up/down, andrecline, so you can comfortably reachthe HVAC system, audio unit and othercontrols.

Unlatching the MAXX Decklid

Remote Keyless Entry SystemOperation

(Remote Keyless Entrywith Remote Startshown. Without RemoteStart is similar.)

: If your vehiclehas this feature, it isused to start andstop the engine.

(Lock): Press thisbutton to lock all thedoors. The interior lamps will turn offafter all the doors are closed. If enabledthrough the Driver Information Center(DIC), the parking lamps will flash onceto indicate locking has occurred. Ifenabled through the DIC, the horn willalso chirp to indicate locking hasoccurred.

(Unlock): Press this button to unlockthe driver’s door. If the button is pressedagain within five seconds, all remainingdoors will unlock. The interior lamps willilluminate and remain on for 10 secondsor until the ignition is turned on. Ifenabled through the DIC, the parkinglamps will flash twice and the horn willchirp twice to indicate unlocking hasoccurred.

(Remote Trunk/Liftgate Release):The trunk or liftgate will unlatch when thisbutton on the transmitter is pressed andheld for approximately one second. Youcan open the sedan trunk with the trans-mitter when the vehicle is stationary. You can open the liftgate on the MAXXonly while the vehicle is in Park (P).

(Vehicle Locator/Panic Alarm): Anew Vehicle Locator feature has beenadded to your car’s Remote KeylessEntry. Press and hold this button for

approximately one second to locate yourvehicle. The horn will sound three timesand the headlamps and parking lampswill flash three times. To sound the panic alarm, press andhold the button for three seconds. Thehorn will sound and the headlamps andparking lamps will flash for two minutes.Press the button again to cancel thepanic alarm. Unlock Functions without RKE FobYour vehicle’s passenger doors andtrunk/liftgate can also be unlocked usingthe driver’s door key/cylinder. With the key in the cylinder:1. Turn key toward front of vehicle and

back to center once to unlock the driver’s door.

2. Turn key toward front of vehicle and back to center twice to unlock all doors.

3. Turn key toward front of vehicle and back to center three times to release trunk/liftgate.

If the lift-gate isunlocked,you canmanuallyopen it bypushingthe touchpad switch located on the underside ofthe liftgate trim panel, slightly to the rightof center (see above).See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Remote Vehicle Start System (if equipped)

This feature allows you to start theengine from outside the vehicle by usingthe Remote Keyless Entry transmitter.(Normal transmitter range is within 196feet of the vehicle.)You can also pre-set the climate controlsystem to heat or cool the vehicle interi-or before getting in. The engine will runfor about 10 minutes before turning itselfoff, but can be extended 10 minutesmore by performing another remote startsequence before the first 10 minutesexpires, or after the engine has shut off.No additional remote starts are alloweduntil the vehicle has been started withthe ignition key.Starting the Vehicle1. Aim the transmitter at the vehicle.2. Press the LOCK button on the trans-

mitter, release it and immediatelypress and hold the remote start button for at least four seconds or until the turn signal lights flash,indicating the engine has started.

3. When the vehicle starts, the parkinglamps will light and stay on while theengine is running.

4. Repeat these steps for a 10-minutetime extension.

Turning Off the Engine After aRemote Start To turn off the engine, press and holdthe remote start button until the parking lamps turn off, OR press andrelease the hazard warning flasher button inside the vehicle.See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Note: If your vehicle is equipped withRemote Starting, instructions for operat-ing this feature are provided on a tagthat can be attached to your vehicle’skey chain for easy reference.

Audio System with IntegralDriver Information Center (DIC)

Your vehicle’s audio system not onlyperforms the standard audio functions,but also has an integrated DriverInformation Center that provides vehicleinformation, vehicle feature personali-zation, and vehicle warning messages. On radios with two-line displays, the topline will be used to show radio frequencyor time, and outside temperature. Thebottom line will display the DIC function.On radios with a single-line display, theDIC will overwrite the radio informationwhile in use.Audio System FeaturesWhile most of the features on your radiowill look familiar, below are some thatmay be new:Left Knob — Pressing the center of thisknob ( ) will turn the power on or off. The outside ring ( ) adjusts the volume.BAND — Use this button to select theradio for listening, and to togglebetween AM, FM, and XM (if equipped).SRCE — The Source button is used toselect a CD or tape for listening.

Right Knob — Pressing the center(DISP) of this knob will toggle the radiodisplay between station frequency andtemperature and time and temperature.It is also used to display song title andartist information, if available in thebroadcast.The outside ring is used to tune in radiostations and to adjust (ADJ) selectedaudio functions such as Tone, Balance/Fade and Clock. For example, to set theclock, press and hold the CLOCK buttonfor two seconds to enter the set clockmode. Use the adjust ring to select thehour. Press CLOCK. Use the adjust ringto select the minutes. Press CLOCKagain to complete the process.

Adjusting other functions is done in asimilar manner.CD Changer — If your vehicle has theoptional in-dash 6-Disc CD Changer,note that you cannot directly load a CDas in single-play systems. To load a single CD:• Press and release the LOAD button.

Wait for the display prompt to loadthe CD.

To load multiple CDs:• Press and hold the LOAD button for

two seconds. Follow the displayprompts to load each CD.

XM Radio (if equipped) — On equippedradios, to access XM Radio, press theBAND button until XM1 or XM2 appearson the display. XM Satellite Radio provides more than120 channels of digital quality soundthat goes wherever you go — coast tocoast.

XM displays song title, artist and entertainment genre. Activation fee andservice subscription are extra. (Availableonly in the U.S. 48 contiguous states.)For more information, contact XM on theInternet at www.XMradio.com or call 1-800-852-XMXM (9696).Operating the Optional Rear SeatAudio (RSA) SystemThis feature allows rear seat passengersto select an audio source to listen tothrough their headphones while frontseat passengers listen to their selectionsthrough the front speakers.1. Select an audio source (cassette or

CD) by pressing the SRCE button.2. Select a radio source (AM, FM, XM)

by pressing the BAND button.3. Use SEEK and the 1–6 buttons to

change tracks, discs, stations.4. Adjust volume by turning the dial

on the wireless headphones; or plug-in headphones, use the volume controls on the front of the RSA

5. The vehicle’s rear speakers will be muted whenever the RSA system is turned on.

Operating the Optional Rear SeatEntertainment (RSE) SystemThe Rear Seat Entertainment Systemhas all the same functions as the RSAsystem, with the following added fea-tures: DVD player, flip-up video screen,remote control, and auxiliary input jacks.Packaged with your remote control is aQuick Reference card that is designedto fit in the storage bin of the rear seatarmrest. The card provides basic operat-ing instructions for the system as well asinstructions for stowing the wirelessheadphones and remote control. Here are some items to note when usingthe RSE system:• The vehicle’s rear speakers will be

muted whenever the RSE system is turned on.

• The volume for wired headphones may also be adjusted through the remote control.

• To enter Auxiliary mode, press AUX on the remote control or press the control head SRCE and PLAYbuttons at the same time.

Note: An audio or radio source may be listened to but cannot be changed from theRSA/RSE if the front seat passengers have selected that same source from the front seatcontrols. (For example, a radio station selected with the front seat controls cannot bechanged by the rear seat controls.)

Driver Information Center (DIC)FeaturesThe DIC is controlled by three buttonslocated to the left of the radio displaywindow.

INFO — Use this button to access theVehicle Information functions.MENU — This button provides accessto the Vehicle Feature Personalizationfunctions. ENTER — Use this button to select amenu option or to acknowledge a warning message.Vehicle InformationThis function provides six informationitems: • Trip A• Trip B• Average Fuel Economy • Range • Average Speed• Engine Oil LifePress the INFO button to scroll throughthese items. Pressing and holding theENTER button will reset a selected item.

Vehicle Feature PersonalizationDepending on optional equipment, this function provides up to 13 different features that can be selected to bestmeet your needs. For example, you canselect from four languages, chooseEnglish or metric units, and select vari-ous automatic door lock/unlock configurations.

To access the various features:• The ignition switch must be in the ON

position.• Press the MENU button to scroll

through the available personalizationfeatures. When the desired feature isreached, press the ENTER button totoggle between the setting choices forthat feature. To record your selection,press and release the MENU button.

See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.Warnings and MessagesThis function provides up to 17 mes-sages (depending on optional equip-ment), such as door ajar, low fuel, icepossible. Some messages can beacknowledged and reset by pressing theENTER button. Other messages relatedto vehicle durability or safety cannot bereset and will remain displayed until thecondition is corrected. See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Exterior Lighting Controls

Cruise Control (if equipped)

Exterior Lamp Switch OperationThe exterior lamp control switch is locat-ed on the lever to the left of the steeringcolumn. The switch can be rotated toeach of the following four positions:

(Headlamps): Turns on the head-lamps, parking lamps, and taillamps.

(Parking Lamps): Turns on parkinglamps and taillamps only. AUTO: Automatic Lamp Control (ALC):Automatically turns on Daytime RunningLamps (DRLs) in the daytime and head-lamps, parking lamps and taillamps atdusk.

(Off/On): Momentary on/off switch forthe ALC.Automatic Lamp Control When you start the vehicle at night or ina dark garage, the headlamps, parkinglamps and taillamps will come on imme-diately. After driving into daylight, thesystem will switch to the DRLs afterabout a one-minute delay. Also, when driving into dark tunnels orgarages, the system delays turning on

the headlamps to avoid unnecessarilyswitching on and off for a short time. The system’s light sensor is located ontop of the instrument panel, under thedefroster grille. To ensure proper systemoperation, avoid placing objects or stick-ers on or near the sensor.ALC OverrideWhen operating in AUTO position, amomentary turn of the switch to theOff/On position will turn off the ALC andall the exterior lights. Rotating the switchto the Off/On position again will turn theALC on again. ALC is always turned onat the beginning of an ignition cycle.See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

(On/Off): Press this button to turn thecruise control system on and off. Whenthe cruise control is engaged, the samesymbol will illuminate in the instrumentcluster.+ RES (Resume): Press this button toresume a set speed, or to increase theset speed, if system is engaged.– SET (Set): Press this button to set aspeed, or to decrease the set speed, if system is engaged.See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Seating and Cargo VersatilityFold-Flat Front Passenger SeatThe front passenger seatback can befolded flat to permit loading of longcargo or it can serve as a table surfacewhen parked. To fold down the front passengerseatback 1. First, ensure that the seatback is

fully upright, by pulling up on therecliner handle at the side of the seat.Then, lower the head restraint to itslowest position.

2. Push in the release button located on either side of the passenger seatback.

3. Fold the seatback forward.Caution: Ensure that longer cargo is notnear an air bag. In a crash, an inflatingair bag might force that object toward aperson, which could cause severe injuryor even death.To raise the seatback • Push in the release button and pull

the seatback up to lock it in place.

Folding the 60/40 Split Rear Seat The split-folding rear seatback permitsloading of longer items from the rearcargo area.

To fold down the rear seatback on thesedan1. Open the trunk and pull one or both

of the gray handles located on theupper side of the trunk opening (see“A” above). The left handle opens thelarger seatback; the right handleopens the smaller side.

2. Push the seatback open through thetrunk or pull it open from inside thevehicle.

3. To return seatback to upright position,push the seatback up until you hear aclick; then pull on the seatback tomake sure it is secure.

To fold down the rear seatback on theMalibu MAXX1. Pull up and hold the recliner lever

located on the side of either rearseat. Push the seatback into thedown position.

2. To return seatback to upright position,pull up and hold the lever; then pushthe seatback up until you hear a click.Pull on the seatback to make sure itis secure.

Electronic RangeSelect ModeThis feature allowsyou to select thelower driving gears.The button for thismode is located onthe shift lever knob. To enable the electronic range selectmode, the shift lever must be in theLOW (L) position. Pressing the “+” and “–” sides of theswitch will cycle through gears 4, 3, 2and 1.The chosen gear selection will be indi-cated in the cluster PRNDL.

Speed Sensitive WipersRotate the windshield wiper stalk to theintermittent wiper position ( ).In this setting, wiper speed will changewith vehicle speed, increasing as youdrive faster and decreasing when youslow down. See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

High Efficiency Air Outlets for RearSeat ComfortThe two upper air outlets located in thecenter of the instrument panel are dedi-cated to the rear seats. The outlets arefixed to direct airflow to the rear seatsfor maximum cooling efficiency and rearpassenger comfort.See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Outside Heated Rearview Mirrors (if equipped)When you turn on the rear windowdefogger, a defogger also warms theoutside mirrors to clear them of mist, iceand snow.See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Accessory Power OutletsYour Malibu is equipped with a numberof Accessory Power Outlets (APOs) foradded convenience.An APO/cigarette lighter is located in theinstrument panel, ahead of the shifterhandle.

Instrument Panel-Mounted APO/Cigarette LighterOn vehicles without traction control, asecond APO is also located in this area.

Storage Bin-Mounted APOOn vehicles with traction control, thesecond APO is located inside the front-center console storage bin. The bin sideincludes a notch to allow power cordrouting outside the bin when the lid isclosed. On MAXX models, a third AccessoryPower Outlet is located in the rear cargoarea.See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Storage Features

Your Malibu comes with a number ofhandy storage areas for holding smalleritems such as pens, photos, memos,sunglasses and more.Windshield Pillar Convenience ClipA Windshield Pillar Convenience Clip islocated on the driver’s side of the wind-

shield. It can hold parking passes, tolltickets and a variety of other flat items.Front Console Photo/Note ClipA clip located on the vertical surface ofyour front console, beneath the ClimateControl system (shown below), is avail-able for holding a photo, a note or othersmall documents.

Front Seat Cushion Storage PouchDepending on the model, your Malibumay have a storage pouch along thefront edge of the front seat cushions(see “A” below) for storing wallets andother valuable items that you prefer tobe kept hidden from public view.

Note: On MAXX models equipped witha rear wiper, the clip is replaced by therear wiper switch.

Cleaning the Interior Upholstery

In general, cleaning the entire seatpanel is recommended, starting from theseams and moving into the stain toavoid a ring effect after drying.For the Base and LS model fabric seat,in most instances, soda water and aclean white cloth will remove spots andspills. See Section 5 of your OwnerManual for detailed information.For the LT model Ultra Lux fabric seat,in most instances, mild soapy water anda clean white cloth will remove spills andspots. For oil and grease spots, sprinklebaking soda on the spot, and then brushand wipe with a clean white cloth. SeeSection 5 of your Owner Manual fordetailed information. See Section 5 of your Owner Manual.

MAXX Features

Adjusting the Multi-Flex Rear Sliding SeatOn Malibu MAXX models, the rear seatcan slide forward to allow for more rearcargo space, or rearward for morelegroom. To slide the seat forward:1. Lift the bar under the front of the seat

to unlock it and slide the seat to thedesired position.

2. Release the bar.

On Malibu MAXX, the rear seat can alsorecline.1. Pull up and hold the recliner handle

located on the side of the seat.2. Adjust to the desired position, and

release handle.See Section 1 of your Owner Manual.

Note: For vehicles equipped with therear seat DVD system, find the molded-in rib located on the plastic carpetretainer at the bottom of the left reardoor opening. Keeping the seat rear-ward of this rib will ensure that the DVDscreen can be fully opened withoutinterfering with the seat.

Operating the Rear Skylight’sRetractable ShadesYour vehicle’s rear skylight permits addedlight into the rear seating area. The sky-light’s retractable shades allow rear pas-sengers to shut out bright sunlight. To close, pull shade out and hook T-tabinto the notch in the skylight’s trim.See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

FrontPassengerSeat StoragePocketA small storagepocket locatedon the inboardside of the frontpassengerseatback(shown right) can be used for storingsmaller items such as pens or parkingpasses.Instrument Panel Storage BinA storage bin located on the lower-leftside of your instrument panel is a handyplace to store coins, gum packages andother smaller items.See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

3. Lower Position: Place the shelf ontop of the cargo floor and slide it for-ward. The shelf is faced with a car-peted surface on one side and adurable plastic surface on the otherfor carrying dirty or wet cargo.

4. Table Position: The shelf can also be positioned for use as a utility table.

To set up as a utility table:• Place the shelf in the upper position,

carpet or plastic side up, and extendthe shelf out. The shelf extends onlyin the upper position.

• Unsnap the leg from the plastic sideof the table and turn the leg outward.

• Set the leg securely into the grooveon the lower cargo opening plastictrim.

Operating the Rear CompartmentStorage Panel/CoverThe shelf/cargo cover permits two-tieredcargo loading for maximum space utility.

1. Upper Position: Insert the front cor-ners into the top guides and slide theshelf forward; then press down on theback of the shelf to lock it down. Foradded convenience, four grocery baghooks are included on the rear edgeof the shelf.

2. Center Position: Place the shelf intothe center guides, slide the shelf for-ward and press down on the back ofthe shelf to lock it down.
