‘‘Andy Brown HEAD OF SUSTAINABILITY, ANGLIAN WATER HEADLINE SPONSORS
Anglian Water were proud to be the headline sponsor for Norwich Science Festival in 2017. Science is fundamental to the success of our business and to have the opportunity to engage with so many people has been fantastic. The Festival has shown again that science isn’t just important, it is fun and engaging too. The exposure that the Festival creates really puts science at the top of the agenda.
‘‘Geoff Tucker SALES DIRECTOR, NORSE COMMERCIAL SERVICESLEARNING PROGRAMME SPONSORS
Norwich Science Festival yet again proved how instrumental it can be in helping students gain a clearer picture of the opportunities that are open to them in the engineering field, and how they can go on to fill the UK skills gap that currently exists. We were delighted to support the event again this year.
A Partnership Event
Thank you!
Norwich Science Festival is a partnership initiative, co-ordinated by The Forum. The Festival is made possible thanks to the support and input from all partners, sponsors and funders.
A huge thank you to everyone involved in the 2017 Festival – the NSF team, sponsors, partners, funders, venues, volunteers and contributors. We’re already working on the programme for October 2018 – we hope to see you there!

The Learning ProgrammeOne of the key aims of Norwich Science Festival is to inspire young people and encourage them to get involved with science. A week-long programme of interactive exhibitions, hands-on experience and science slams was held at The Forum, as well as outreach events that brought the science fun to schools.
We also worked closely with Youth STEMM Award (YSA) to ensure that activities in both the Learning Programme and main Festival were eligible for the Award, and special YSA passports were produced for Learning Programme participants.

YOUNG COMMUNICATIONS TEAM
Norwich Science Festival (NSF) returned for its second year from Saturday 21 to Sunday 29 October, and provided nine days of inspirational talks, sensational shows, cutting-edge research and
an abundance of hands-on science activities for all
ages and all levels of knowledge.
Norwich Science Festival 2017
Co-ordinated by The Forum and working with partners from across the city, the Festival built upon the success of the inaugural city-wide Norwich Science Festival in October 2016.
For 2017, a broad programme of talks, activities, exhibitions and shows took place at venues throughout the city, including themed days on astronomy, physics, engineering and technology, chemistry, biology, nature and the environment, solving problems with science, and food and agriculture.
The Festival was hugely successful, with many sold-out events, talks and workshops, and large audiences for the free hands-on science activities at The Forum, Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form and University Technical College Norfolk.
Headline events included Helen Sharman – Britain’s first astronaut, and shows from TV/radio scientists and celebrities Ben Garrod, Mark Thompson, Adam Rutherford, Lizzie Daly, Nicholas Crane, Alice Roberts, Robin Ince, and Johnny Ball.
The Forum was the hub venue for the Festival, supported by other city venues including Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form, University Technical College Norfolk (UTCN), Norwich Cathedral, Norwich Playhouse and Norwich Arts Centre.

Thank you for such a great event – my 11 year old son was enthralled. He’s wanted to be an astrophysicist for a few years – now he knows he wants to work on detecting gravitational waves on the LISA project.
I felt so proud of Norwich to be able to attract so many well-known names to our part of the world!
‘‘Thank you so much for a truly wonderful and inspirational day. I know the children had a fantastic time – they came back to school beaming and buzzing to tell everyone about their day.

How we spread the word
‘‘It was the best day ever. I loved learning about space. The VR headset was so cool. I loved saving the space shuttle.
12 young people, aged 16-21, participated in the Young Communications Team, training with UEA’s Concrete newspaper and photographer Jeremy Webb. They volunteered over 100 hours of their time, writing articles and blogs, taking photos and creating social media posts.
