Influenced by other students work?

We believed that as well as taking influence from videos made by real production companies it would also be wise for us to look at those that have been created by like minded people. This way we could get a feel fro the sort of thing that would be possible for us to create with similar sort of facilities, experience, money and time. Below are just a few of the examples that we particularly liked and have taken advice from. You belong With MeAlthough in comparison this song is of a different genre and tempo to our own we found that the video created by this previous Winstanley student demonstrated many of the effects that we wanted to put to use including:

Split screen. Here you can see that the split screen has been used to group together different shots of the artist herself and the characters used in the video. The aspect that my group particularly liked about this is how each square is in a different colour setting. When we are to use the split screen in our production we will be contrasting the black and white against the colour as can be seen here.

This video also showed to us that our idea of highlighting the artist playing her guitar would also look good on screen. We would also want to show the singer using other instruments also.

Hope Leaves

Hope Leaves demonstrated to us that it would look very professional if we placed our singer in a studio setting making sure that it looked as realistic as possible. We therefore got the idea of using the lights as a way to highlight the artists appearance and their facial expressions. This song, just like Fast car, is slow and therefore showed that the convention of making it scenery dark to parallel with the feel of the song would be ideal.

The extreme side on close ups used in this video are incredibly beneficial as the viewer gets to see exactly how the artist is feeling and can feel their emotion. With a similar pace song to our own we firmly believed that setting a camera up in a similar sort of position to capture the same type of shots would work very well for us.

This students work also gave us the idea to use a projector effect on our video. This means that we will either shoot the footage of the singer begging on the streets either on to the face of the artist while she is in the studio, to make it look like the visuals of her memory. Or simply, when we are switching to the footage on screen we will use this effect to make the scene look distorted, blurred and old as if this way of life for the artist is in the past, it is old news. We believe this is a similar sort of thing as to what this particular group of students was trying to portray.

AbsoluteAbsolute by The fray performed and created by another group of students from Winstanley College gave us lots of ideas about how we should use lighting in our video.

These two screenshots taken from the video that was posted on YouTube show how they have taken simple action shots of the headlights of driving cars and the street lamps that surrounded the bust road they filmed by. We to want to take simplistic hots like these are blur them in out out of vision to create a sense of how the artists life is a blur and how she isn't noticed by others. We intend to place our singer in the middle or near a busy road, speed up th action of the cars passing her by therefore showing of how insignificant and alone she felt in the world.
