1、Flush humectants out of print head

To moisturize print head, lots of humectants are injected into the head before it is used. The

humectants must be flushed out for the first using. Before fix the head on the print head frame, do

the steps as follows: Joint a filter on the In-pipe of the head, and then joint an injector--which fills

with flush solution--on the filter. Inject 10-20 ml flush solution to the head to eject the humectants

inside. Then fill the head with flush solution to dissolve the humectants completely within 5-10

minutes. Finally, flush the head with about 30ml flush solution to eliminate the humectants

completely.

Make sure to operate on a stable and clean platform.

Cautions:

1. Clean platform for convenient operation;

2. Don’t touch the surface of head and socket with hand;

3. Clean the filter with flush solution;

4. Connect a pipe on the exit of the head to prevent ink flowing into the socket;

5. Don’t touch the surface of head with other objects;

6. Be careful to distinguish In pipe and Out pipe of the head;

Eject flush solution from the nozzles with strength no more than 0.3 kg. (It is better to hold the

injector with single hand and push it with the same thumb.)

2、Extrude air from the print head

After fixing the head on the head frame (be cautious of the in pipe and out pipe). Remove the Cap

from the Out pipe; positive-pressure clean to fill the head with ink till ink streams out from nozzles.

During the process air is extruded completely from the head.

3、Moisturize print head surface

After extruding air from the head, cover the Cap on the Out pipe. Positive-pressure clean again

until ink streams out of the nozzles, then scrub the head surface with a dry clean stick to form a

protecting layer of ink on the head surface. The ink on the surface will stream into the nozzles

because of negative pressure.

Notes:

Never scrub the head surface when head surface is dry, for that will orient air into the

nozzles and shape bubbles in the pipelines and affect the printing quality.

3.7.4 Cleaning and maintenance of the print head

1. Ink replace

Flush the print head with the original ink first, and then flush it again with new flush solution, which

matches the new ink. Avoid sunlight and irradiation of UV lamp when replace the ink.

2. Print head cleaning

If low quality printing takes place, a positive-pressure cleaning is proper for the head. After positive

pressure cleaning, scrub the head surface with a dry clean stick to stop ink streaming from the nozzles.

Be sure not to use a stick with flush solution to scrub the head surface, otherwise, the flush solution will

be siphoned into the nozzles.

3. Moisturize print head

Use a dry-prevent bracket if the printer is left unused and always keep the bracket clean. Put a clean

non-woven fabric on the sponge of bracket and drop some flush solution on it because the sponge

usually has dust on it. Wrap the bracket with a black plastic cloth to avoid sunlight. If no dry-prevent

bracket is ready, use a clean non-woven fabric with some flush solution on it to wrap the print head with

a fresh-keep polyester film and then wrap it with a black plastic cloth.

3.8 Connect With Power 1. After all the parts installed, move printer to its working area and clean up the package.

2. Connect power cables, including power for printer and heater, printing data cable. Protective

switch only works for heater’s power. Usually this switch should be at status of On (switch on

above, far from red point)

3. Movel the print head frame from right to left of printer to ensure no exceptional situation.

4. Feed in media and printer enters waiting status.

5. Then go in test printing. Observe ink drop. If not good, clean print head again.

3.9 Negative pressure adjustment 1. Functions of negative pressure:Negative pressure holds ink in the nozzles to prevent it dropping down

from the print heads and keep ink in balance.

2. How to judge negative pressure if normal: Ink dripping on print head can be analysed to confirm

negative pressure normal or not: First, press positive pressure cleaning key on cleaning operation

panel, for appearing the ink dripping on print head. Then make it still and observe it sucked back slowly

or dropping. If the ink dripping is dropping, it shows that the negative pressure value is too low.

Generally speaking, the negative pressure value should be adjusted at the list value, which can ensure

the ink dripping not dropping. For too high negative pressure, ink will be blocked or clogged during

print; for too low negative pressure, ink can’t be held in the nozzles. So print quality will be affectted.

Figure 3-8 negative pressure display panel and adjusting knob

3. How dose the user adjusts negative pressure parameters: If the negative pressure is too high or too

low when using, users can adjust it in the negative pressure contiol panel, for changing the negative

pressure parameters. The negative pressure parameter corresponds to the value which is displayed on

negative pressure display panel. And the larger parameter, the higher negative pressure. If negative

pressure value be set too high ot too low, buzzer will call to give alarm and the ERR4 will be displayed

on diplay panel.

4.Attention: Negative pressure adjusting knob is used to adjust negative pressure pump working voltage.

Users don’t reset the voltage parameter, because the voltage parameter has be set right when leaving

factory. Otherwise, working life of negative pressure pump will be affectted. Seriously, the negative

pressure will out of control.

Remark1: Ink curve-Viscosity and Voltage

User can choose different curves for different ink types and different situations.

We suggest to use the ink type we point and choose correspond curve. If you’re using a different ink type, please contact us. Otherwise consequence are responsible.

Remark2: EF value setting

Each Xaar126 head has its own EF value. Manufacture always provides a standard EF value, which

is captured under standard condition. Users input this value at column Voltage. Usually, the printing

effect is good. The value is marked on the head. It is also saved in the chip of print head driver. User

can download it directly. If the voltage is too high, it produces the satellites and ink supply is easy to break; If the voltage

is too low, the printing line is not straight and easy to have an angle. Besides, ink volume is small and

output color is light. Therefore, every head has its optimal EF value. When adjusting, you can adjust the

Chapter 7 Ink Supply System

7.1 Summary This ink supply system can control automatically several pumps at the same time and provides protect

function. Isolated ink supply system is easy for operation.

7.2 System Diagram

Figure 8-1 Ink Supply System Diagram

7.3 Function Description 1. This system work automatically and control several pumps to supply ink simultaneously. When

printer is power on, ink pump starts automatically to pump ink to assistant ink tanks from main ink

tanks.

2. With perfect alarm and protection function. If any problem occurred in any pump, it will alarm and

indicate which one is in trouble and the troubled one will not affect others.

3. Ink filter switches get signals through serial ports.

4. It is easy to connect it to other systems. All floating switches signals can be input by serial port or

parallel port.

5. Main controller consists of micro CPU, which can check signals using software to filter out the false

ones, which is helpful to make system work more reliably.

The ink-pumping limit is controlled by intelligent control system of main control board; in case that the

electric circuit will cause ink supply shortage.

7.4 Operation Description Please read descriptions carefully for ink supply system, cleaning system and Ink Control system

before starting the following operations.

1. As soon as the printer’s powered on, system detects floating switch signal automatically, and then

ink will be filled into sub-tank.

2. If assistant ink tank lacks of ink, system will start the corresponding pump automatically. When ink

reaches the floater switch, the sensor will send signal to main board and the pump will continue to

work for a little period and then stop.

3. If ink pump runs overtime, the system will alarm (voice a straight buzz) and display Alarm

information on the LCD. Press “Enter” on the control panel to cancel alarm and system goes back to

auto-ink-supply process.

4. When waste ink tank is full, system will alarm and display error message on the LCD. Empty the

waste ink tank immediately.

5. When safety tank is full, system will also alarm and display Alarm on the LCD. Empty the safety tank

immediately.

7.5 Intelligent Detection Function

The system uses high frequent floater switch and adopts the conception of probability. The signal

is regarded as effective only when the probability of floating switch signal is higher than the set value

(for example, 80%). Therefore, wrong act of floater switch can’t affect the system any more therefore

improve the reliability of the system.

Chapter 8 Cleaning System

8.1 Summary Print head clean is necessary when nozzles are clogged after long time printing, or even before printing.

Positive pressure drives ink to print head and rush it-this is called “Positive pressure cleaning”. It’s

operated only by one press on the button.

When finish one day’s work, clean the print head and cover the clog-prevent bracket on it and even

wrap a black gobo on the bracket. If the printer will be left idle for a long period, clean the print head

and fill it with solution, and also cover it with clog-prevent bracket. These will all protect the print head

and prolong it life.

8.2 Diagram of positive pressure cleanning

Chart 8-1 Cleaning System Diagram

8.3 Function Description of Positive Pressure Cleaning When you press “clean” button, the cleaning signal will be transport to air pump; air pump starts

running and transports air pressure to valve; the air pressure raises in air tank and is transferred to

assistant ink tanks through air channels. With pressure got from the air pump, ink rushes to print head

and purges through the nozzles, so as to clean them.

8.4 Operation Description Manual cleaning by positive pressure:

When the PH carriage is at home position; press down “clean” button to launch positive pressure

cleaning. Release the button when all nozzles purge normally. Positive cleaning finishes.

When adjust each PH parameter, software and each PH on the print vehicle is one one

correspondence ,this is important to each PH parameter adjustion. There are 12 heads on the UV160,4 colors printings, and the print head sequencing of the cyan、

cyan 2、magenta、magenta 2、yellow and black,so the first thing when adjusting the print head is to

adjust the same color print head vertically and horizontally.

Chose cyan and cyan 2 in the printer setup:

Print grid (figure) under a microscope to observe the order until the coincidence of a line.

Adjust the color of magenta and magenta 2 in the same method. Take cyan and cyan 2 as datum, adjust the two groups of magenta、yellow and black respectively

(as the chart shown),and the testing mode is unidirectional printing ,click print “ ”button, then it

begins to print.

When the four colors are adjusting well,it can be adjusted using the grid method(as the chart

shown) to adjust the superposition of four colors. Take one certain color as datum before adjustment

(generally take cyan as datum), other colors overlap above this color . Pay attention to that one color

have two print heads, therefore ,the print head parameters must change at the same time when

adjusting superposition, otherwise, the first step to the adjustment will lose its role.

Note:This type of printer can’t use bi-direction mode to printing.

Adjust feeding compensation, if the images printed have apertures, the feeding compensation

should be minished,if superpose ,this value should be raised up. Test methods of the compensation

value in other printing modes ibid. Observe the different situation of feeding compensation in magnifying glass:

Print dots with different feeding compensations

If the feeding compensation set too big, there is a gap between each pass printing. So reduce the

parameter will help improve the print quality. If the compensation set too small there is overlap

between each pass printing. So increase the parameter will help. Both affect the image quality.

If a common mode, can be used directly ,and adjust it in the Adjustment\Rectangle of the

equipment.

Note:

Feeding compensation is different from the print mode, so adjust the feeding

compensation for each print mode.

10.2 Usage of UV lamp 10.2.1 Start Up

Install and connect the system as previously described. Ensure that the light shielding and extraction

systems as required, are operational. The extraction system must be activated prior to switching on

the lamps.

The system is activated by closing the Mains “On/Off” Switch on the rear of the power supply. The blue

“Mains On” light will illuminate on the operators panel. At this point the cooling fan on the UV power

supply will start.

10.2.2 Button operation

Note: If a remote control unit is plugged in to the rear of the unit and a remote input signal is present. The On and increase / decrease buttons will not operate. The red off button will remain active.

Decrease Power

The UV lamp head is activated pressing either of the power switches

(Increase or Decrease). The UV lamp will light and begin emitting UV

light. The lower three indicator LEDs of the respective lamp will flash at

rate of 1Hz, to indicate burn-in. The above two indicators flash showing

the final power level selected. The Lamp head fan is switched off to

enable the UV lamp head to reach its operating temperature.

After a sixty-second pre-set time, the UV lamp head will be up to its normal operating temperature and

the timer system will restart the lamp head cooling fan.

After a pre-set time the indicators will cease flashing. This indicates that the UV system is ready for

operation and so curing can commence.

When a remote signal is present, the power level buttons are disabled. The lamp must be switched on by

the remote signal. The red off button will work regardless of operation control.

10.2.3 Remote Control Units

For remote controlled systems, all operating signals are provided by the host machine. When an auxiliary

remote control unit is used, the operation described previously will be present on the remote control unit.

10.2.4 Shut down The system must be shut down in the following sequence! The UV lamp head must be switched off using the UV Lamp Off Switch only.

As the UV lamp head is switched off using the UV Lamp Off Switch, the UV lamp will be shut down and the

indicator lights will be switched off. The cooling fans will continue to operate in order to cool the lamp and power supply.

The lamp must be left to cool under the operation of the cooling fan and the extraction system for at

least 5

WARNING

The UV lamp must never be switched off by the mains on/off switch, this can over heat the lamp causing permanent damage. The extraction system must never be switched off before the UV lamp is switched off.

10.2.5 Re-strike

When the UV system is shut down from operating temperature, it cannot be re-stuck (re-ignited) until

the lamp has cooled down. This can take up to three minutes. UV lamps are created by an arc, which may take up to five seconds to strike. Normal operation

requires the fans to run for five minutes following shut down off the lamp.

When a remote signal is present, the power level buttons are disabled. The lamp must be switched

on by the remote signal. The red off button will work regardless of operation control.

10.2.6 System Stop The normal stop procedure is to press the red button for the respective lamp, on the front of the

unit. When it is pressed. The system will enter a three-minute cool down process. All activity is inhibited

whilst the fans in the lamp head operate at full power. The fan in the PSU will continue to operate.

If the power supply has been subjected to an emergency stop situation, i.e. the power has been

suddenly removed from the unit. It is possible that the lamp heads will be extremely hot. The internal

controller will be reset as the result of the power loss, and hence the cooling fans and hot restrike

suppression will not be activated. It is essential that the system be left to fully cool for ten minutes. If

the unit does not immediately restrike on attempted operation, switch off immediately and leave for a

further two minutes. Repeat this until the lamp ignites.

Sudden removal of power and the subsequent uncontrolled shut down force the lamp to cool down

in an uncontrolled manner. This significantly reduces the life of the lamp and lamp housing.

WARNING: It is not recommended that the system be shut down in this manner except in a true emergency situation.
