2.1 Cleaning Products to Avoid

2.2 Cleaning of the Test Lung

Ifrequired,theTestLungcanbedisinfected.Therearetwodifferent

modelsofTestLungandeachhasspecificcleaningmethods.

• TheTestLungisaconsumableitem.Irrespectiveofmodel,the

TestLungshouldregularlybeinspectedforsignsofdamagesuch

asdiscoloration,perishingorcracking.ReplacetheTestLungif

damageisobserved.

2.2.1 Latex (black) Test Lung (discontinued May 2007)

WARNINGTheTestLungcontainsnaturalrubberlatexthatmay

causeallergicreactions.

CAUTION:Latexissusceptibletoattackbysolvents.Ensurenosolvents

areusedtocleantheTestLung.

ThisTestLungconsistsoftwoparts,theflexiblelatextestlungand

arigidblackplasticconnector.TheTestLungcanbedisassembled

fordisinfection.Itcanbedisinfectedusingethyleneoxidegasonly.

Somecarriergasescancausestresscrackingandarenotsuitable.If

indoubt,checkwiththechemicalsupplier.

accordancewithhospitalcleaningprotocols.Thistestlungconsistsof

twoparts,theflexiblesiliconetestlungandarigidplasticconnector.

ThetwopartsoftheTestLungmaybedisassembled

fordisinfection.Itcanbecleanedusingdisinfectantscontaining

eitherperaceticacid(e.g.Perasafe®)ororthopthaldehyde

(e.g.Cidex®OPA).Otherdisinfectionmethodscancausedamage

totheTestLungandarenotrecommended.

Pleasefollowthemanufacturer’sinstructionsforstorage,handling

andusageofthesechemicals.

WARNING EnsurethesiliconeTestLungandplasticconnectorare

bothremovedfromtheT-Piecebeforeuseonapatient.

2.3 Cleaning Reusable T-Piece (discontinued September 2008)

ThereusableT-Piece500RD104consistsoftwopartsandcanbe

disassembledfordisinfection(referdiagram).TheT-Pieceshould

bedisinfectedbyautoclavingatupto136°C,220kPafor4

minutes.Followingreassembly,theT-Pieceshouldbetestedprior

tousetoensurethatitisfunctioningcorrectly.RefertotheF&P

Neopuff™/Perivent™OperatingManual(Fisher&PaykelHealthcare

2.4 Sterilization

CAUTION:

• Donotautoclaveorgas-sterilizeanypartofthe

“TestingoftheF&PNeopuff/PeriventPerformance”procedure

(section3.3).

• Theuseofamountingbrackettohelppreventthe

F&PNeopuff/Periventbeingdamagedordroppedisrecommended.

Mountingsolutionsavailablecanbefoundinsection5ofthis

3.3 Testing of the F&P Neopuff™ /Perivent™ Performance (Manometer and Valve System)

TheintegrityoftheF&PNeopuff/Periventmanometerandvalve

systemcanbetestedusingthefollowingguidelines.Theinletport

mustbeconnectedtoagassupplycapableofgeneratingconstant

flowat5,10 and 15L/min,andacertifiedgaugeandbleedvalve

shouldbeavailabletocheckthemanometeraccuracy.The

F&PNeopuff/PeriventresuscitationcircuitandT-Piececan

beusedinplaceofableedvalveasshownbelow.

3.3.1 Testing of the Manometer

1. LiftthecoverofftheMaxPressureReliefValveslightlyandturnoutoftheway.

2. DisconnectalldevicesfromtheF&PNeopuff™/Perivent™outletport.Checkthatthemanometerneedleiswithin+/-2 cmH

2O of

zeroonthemanometergauge.Ifthemanometerdoesnotreadzero,theresettingofthemanometertozeroprocedure(section3.3.4)shouldbefollowed.

3. ConnecttheoutletoftheF&PNeopuff/PeriventInfantResuscitatortoableedvalveandacertifiedgauge(e.g.MensorDigitalPressureGaugeSeries2400).Setthegassupplyto10L/min.Completelyclosethemaximumpressurelimitvalvebyturningtheleft-handknobcompletelyclockwise.Withthebleedvalveclosed,adjustthePeakInspiratoryPressureknobtosetthepressuresothatthecertifiedgaugereads10, 20 and 40 cmH

2O.Checkthatthe

manometerreadswithin+/-2 cmH2Oofthesevaluesateachset

point.

4. Withthepressuresetto40 cmH2O,openandclosethebleedvalve

threetimesandcheckthemanometerneedlerisesandfallssmoothly.If the F&P Neopuff / Perivent Infant Resuscitator fails any of these tests, the manometer should be regarded as inaccurate and replaced with a new manometer (Part No. 043040841).

Follow the manometer replacement guidelines in section 3.3.5 of this manual, or contact your Fisher & Paykel Healthcare service representative for further guidance.

3.3.2 Testing of the Valve System

1. Setthegassupplyto5L/min.CompletelyclosethePeakInspiratoryPressurecontrolandtheMaxPressurecontrolbyturningbothknobscompletelyclockwise.Closethebleedvalveandcheckthatthegaugereadsatleast60 cmH

2O.

2. Setthegassupplyto15L/min.Closethebleedvalveandcheckthatthegaugereadsnohigherthan80cmH

2O.

3. Setthegassupplyto10L/min.ClosethebleedvalveandturntheMaxPressureReliefvalveuntilthemanometerreads40 cmH

2O.

Checkthatthemanometerneedlerisesandfallssmoothly.GentlyrotatetheMaxPressureReliefcoverovertheMaxPressureReliefknob.

4. Resetthepeakinspiratorypressureto20 cmH2Oandturnoffthe

gasflow.Testingisnowcomplete.

If the F&P Neopuff / Perivent Infant Resuscitator fails any of these tests, the valve assembly should be regarded as faulty and replaced with a new valve assembly (see the parts list (section 4.1.2) for part numbers). Follow the valve replacement guidelines in section 3.3.6 of this manual, or call your Fisher & Paykel Healthcare service representative for further information.

3.3.3 Setting Max Pressure Relief to 40 cmH2O

ThisisrequirediftheMaxPressureReliefhasbeenchanged.ThefactorysettingfortheMaxPressureReliefis40 cmH

2O.

AlternativesettingsfortheMaxPressureReliefshouldbemadeinaccordancewithhospitalprotocol.

1. Adjustgasflowto10L/min.

2. ClosethePeakInspiratoryPressurevalvebyturningtheknobfullyclockwise.

3. AdjusttheMaxPressureReliefknobclockwiseorcounterclockwiseuntilthemanometerreads40 cmH

2O.

4. TurnthePeakInspiratoryPressureknobcounterclockwisesothemanometerreads20 cmH

2Oandshutoffthegasflow.

3.3.4 Resetting the Manometer to Zero

Tosetthemanometertozero:

1. DisconnecttheF&PNeopuff™/Perivent™InfantResuscitatorfromanyotherequipment.

2. Removetheopaqueplasticpluginthelensofthemanometer.

3. Usingasuitableslotscrewdriver,carefullyadjustthescrewinthemanometerfaceclockwiseorcounterclockwisetoresetthemanometertozero.Caremustbetakenwhendoingthis,asover-rotationofthescrewcandamagethemanometerinternals.

4. Replacetheplasticpluginthelensofmanometer.

5. Verifythatthemanometerneedleisnowwithin+/-2.0 cmH2O of

zero.Ifnot,repeattheaboveprocedure.

3.3.5 Manometer Replacement

ThemanometerisnotaserviceableitemandmustbereplacedbyManometerKit043040841.

1. Removethebackcover,fixedbyfourscrews.

2. Disconnectthetubefromthemanometer.

3. Removethemanometerbyunscrewingthetworetainingnuts.

4. Fitthenewmanometerintothefrontpanel,tightentheretainingnutsandreconnectthemanometertube.

5. Refitthefrontpaneltothebackcoverwiththefourscrews.

6. Carryoutthemanometerperformancetestaspersection3.3.1.Itisrecommendedtorecordthelotnumberfromtheboxlabelofthereplacementmanometeronthemaintenancechecklist.

3.3.6 Valve System Replacement

NOTE:Thevalvesareanintegralpartofthevalve,panelandmanifoldassemblyandarenotabletobeserviced.Pleasespecifythemodelnumberfromthepartslist(section4.1.2)whenorderingareplacementvalveassembly.

1. Removethebackcover,fixedbyfourscrews.

2. Disconnectthetubefrommanometer.

3. Removethemanometerbyunscrewingthetworetainingnuts.

4. Fittheexistingmanometerintothenewvalveassemblypanel,tightentheretainingnutsandreconnectthemanometertube.

5.Refitthefrontpaneltothebackcoverwiththefourscrewsfromstep1.

6.Carryoutthevalvesystemperformancetestaspersection3.2.2. ItisrecommendedtorecordthelotnumberofthenewvalveassemblyontotheSet-upandMaintenanceChecklist.
