Jesus is the fulfillment of the prophecy in Wisdom: The one who will be maligned; The one upon whom evil will fall. Jesus will be rejected by his own people; he will be led to a hor- rible death. However Jesus will rise, conquer evil and dis- pel darkness. We live in a world that is at times shrouded or cov- ered in darkness. How often have we heard people or have we said why do bad things happen to good people”. We have said this many times because of free will. It is through free will that Gang members can choose to arm themselves, roam the streets, and shoot in neighborhoods where they can hurt or kill people. It is through free will that corrupt politician or officials can choose to bribe, cheat innocent people or not uphold the law. God, who is wise and good, has chosen to give us free will, the ability to make our own choices. When it is our choice, it is either to do good or do evil. It is our choice to which one we let dominate or prevail. We must use our free will wisely in order to know how best to serve, we must seek the wisdom of God. St. James describes this wisdom through the virtues of peace, leniency, sympathy and sincerity. If we seek the wisdom of God and do our best to be servants, then Gods goodness will triumph and darkness will be dispelled by the light of Christ. We must be present to God and to Gods will, if the reign of God is to appear in our midst. Let us do our best to be servants, to conquer evil that we encounter, in imitation of Jesus Christ. “If God is the center of your life, no words are necessary. Your mere presence will touch hearts.” - Vincent De Paul Feast Day Sept. 27

In todays readings, we see an example of how the goodness of Jesus triumphed over evil. And we see how we are challenged to dispel the evil and darkness in our own lives The Book of Wisdom speaks of a good person who is unjustly maligned. He is tested to see if God will be his refuge. However Jesus will rise, conquer evil and dis-pel darkness. We live in a world that is at times shrouded or cov-ered in darkness. How often have we heard people or have we said “ why do bad things happen to good people”. We have said this many times because of free will. It is through free will that Gang members can choose to arm themselves, roam the streets, and shoot in neighborhoods where they can hurt or kill people.
