INES as a University of Applied
Sciences
In 2008, a research to analyze the position of HLIs in relation to the labor market needs.
Results: a big discrepancy between academic products and the labor market needs.
Biggest issue not really with offered programs but the way they way offered
After consulting with stakeholders and experts from the Netherlands and Germany, the concept of University of Applied Sciences was adopted in 2010 as the solution.

Perspectives for 2018-2019
Motto of the academic year 2018-2019
SHIFTING FROM PAPER TO
PRODUCT
Perspectives for 2018-2019
Unemployment is a challenge to the world;
INES Research: Unemployment is a major source of
instability in the world.
Unemployed youth lose hope and are easily driven to
obscure groups including armed groups, terrorists, drugs
trafficking and consumption, prostitution etc.
The challenge is not so much about lack of jobs but mostly
about misalignment between job requirements and
candidates’ skills.
Perspectives for 2018-2019
INES-Ruhengeri to address the challenge of unemployment through enhancement of relevant education:
Quality of programs,
Quality of teaching and learning methodology;
Quality of staff;
Quality of management.
Perspectives for 2018-2019
Graduate as a product: matching with the
market’s expectations:
Knowledge;
Skills (soft and hard)
Attitude;
Entrepreneurial students and graduates:
PBL
Prototyping;
Innovation competions
