PROTECTION AGAINST WEAR

The fi lm of oil separates the moving parts and reduces friction due to piston movement in the cyclinder sleeve. The results obtained from these two tests showed that the surface condition of the sleeves and cyclinders will be maintained. MB-APPROVAL 229.52

In 2010, Daimler launched a development of fi rst-fi ll oil for their new engines. During the program, they identifi ed a need to increase their requirements for one engine type (OM642 Blue-Tec engine). After applying this specifi c need to their factory-fi ll oil, they have decided to introduce a dedicated service-fi ll specifi cation for this application.

The MB 229.52 specifi cation is based on the MB 229.51 requirements but with higher limits on the oxidation and FE tests.

The scope of application of this new specifi cation is the Diesel vehicles equipped with the OM642 engine Blue-Tec version (used in Class R, ML and GL). Up to now Daimler was requesting a genuine oil for these vehicles but they decided to create a dedicated specifi cation to avoid any availability issues.

Each “MERCEDES-BENZ” approval corresponds to technical requirements:
