Industrial relationsis about the relationship among employee and management. Industrial
relations has become one of the most delicate and complex problems of modern industrial
society. Industrial progress is impossible without cooperation of labours and harmonious
relationships. Therefore, it is in the interest of all to create and maintain good relations
between employees (labour) and employers (management).
Being an Industrial Relations OfficerI will ensure the following practises so as to maintain
industrial peace and harmony in the organization:
I will be communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates - Providing
information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form,
e-mail, or in person.
Unions are the important part of the organization. I will ensure to have smooth
relations with the unions. I will regularly have meetings with the union leaders and try
to satisfy the needs of the unions and workmen.
I will try my best in resolving conflicts and negotiating with others. I will also main
industrial peace via handling complaints, settling disputes, and resolving grievances and
conflicts, or otherwise negotiating with others.
I also will be establishing and maintaining Interpersonal Relationships. Developing
constructive and cooperative working relationships with unions and workmen, and
maintaining them over time.
It is my responsibility to make decisions and solve problems efficiently. I will solve the
problems by analysing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution
and solve problems.
I will be evaluating Information to Determine Compliance with Standards. Using
relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or
processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
Up-to-date knowledge is very important. Updating and Using Relevant Knowledge,
Keeping the workmen up-to-date technically and applying new knowledge to your job is
my priority and so I will arrange programs to update the workmen.
Staffing Organizational Units. I will be recruiting, interviewing, selecting, hiring, and
promoting employees in an organization. I will ensure that I will find a perfect mix ofpeople which will maintain peace and who match the culture of the organization.

I will visit the canteen regularly and check the cleanliness, hygiene and the quality of
the food. I feel food plays an important role in making or breaking the day of an
employee. So better food leads to better efficiency is my policy.
I will also be developing and building teams by encouraging and building mutual trust,
respect, and cooperation among team members. Workmen should feel attached to the
organization and they should work whole heartedly. This will ensure peace and less
fights or strikes.
I will plan, organize, direct, control or coordinate the personnel, training, or labour
relations activities of an organization. This will give a proper direction to the work in the
organization.
I will also be providing current and prospective employees with information about
policies, job duties, working conditions, wages, and opportunities for promotion and
employee benefits. This will ensure proper knowledge about the organizational policies
and reduce conflicts.
I will everyday take a round on the shop floor and try to understand the needs and
problems of the shop floor workmen. Many a times sitting in a cabin wontmake me
understand the problems which the workmen are facing.
I will ensure regular meeting with the works committee and will try to understand the
issues the committee is facing with respect to various union problems.
Health of the employees is very important. I will ensure proper and adequate health
facilities in the organization. Ambulance facility will also be available.
Appraisal process is a sensitive issue in any organization. I will have proper and
unbiased evaluations towards grading the employees and workmen. If anyone has any
problem with the respective grading, it is my duty to consult with the respectiveemployee and get to the root of the problem.
All the above activities will help in maintain cordial relations between the employees
and the employer, which will indirectly result in better peace and harmony in the
organization.
