AFC Industrial Plug and Play (IPP) Cabling System
AFC’s Industrial Plug and Play cabling system provides a market leading
ruggedised, fast and efficient connection system particularly suited to industrial
applications including mining, infrastructure, defence and process control.
The modular product set comprises ruggedised cables and connectors, IP rated
enclosures, and rapid deployment reels. The solution is ideal for extreme
environments where physical and chemical protection are critical factors.
The solution meets military specifications and MSHA standards.
We Partner with High Quality Global Manufacturers
To bring the highest quality to our IPP system we have partnered with
international manufacturers who specialise in individual components and
AFC have integrated these providing a leading edge engineered solution.
Benefits of Using an AFC IPP Cabling System
• Significant reduction in installation times resulting in
– less time exposed to dust or moisture
– less time personnel are exposed to hazardous areas and harsh
environmental conditions
• Easy deployment and redeployment due to the modular style
• Faster restoration of service, reducing downtime
• Consistent long term optical performance due to IP68 environment rating
• Compliance to military cable specifications, providing crush resistance, flex resistance and repeated impacts
• Terminated cable assemblies are fully tested before delivery, ensuring maximum optical performance
• Manufacturered to TIA, ISO/IEC and AS/NZS standards

Enclosure Options
DIN Rail Mounted Enclosures
AFC offers an extensive range of DIN rail mounted enclosures to suit most
industrial and harsh environment networks.
They can be custom designed and manufactured to suit a particular
application, or fibre count and can accommodate all types of coupler plates.
They are ideal for any plug and play solution, when used with AFC’s industrial or
harsh environment connector systems.
A variety of materials can be used in the manufacture including powder coated
mild steel or stainless steel, which makes them well suited for all mining and
Department of Defence applications.
Modular DIN Rail Mounted Enclosure
The modular DIN rail mounted enclosure has two mounting options and
utilises a range of adapter plates. It has top, bottom and side cable entry points
and can be used for fusion splicing and direct termination.
It can hold up to 48 splices and is key lockable for added security.
Mini DIN Rail Mounted Enclosure
The mini DIN rail mounted enclosure allows up to 12 splices but can be
increased to 24 when two enclosures are joined side-by-side (i.e. when using a
24F cable). It has top and bottom cable entry points and can be used for fusion
splicing and direct termination.
Small DIN Rail Mounted Enclosure
The small DIN rail mounted enclosure allows for one adapter panel and has
multiple cable entry points. It can be used for fusion splicing (max 24 splices),
direct termination or MTP cassettes. The two mounting options available allow
either wall or DIN rail mounting. There is also a clear cover available if required
for Department of Defence applications.

Rack Mount Sliding Enclosures
AFC has a comprehensive range of rack mounted sliding enclosures available in
1RU, 2RU and 3RU. All AFC sliding enclosures use high quality, double extended
rails to increase the internal accessibility during fibre termination or when
maintenance is required.
These enclosures allow for several types of front panels, from the standard
modular adapter panels up to the high density panels for larger fibre counts.
They cover a range of styles which allows the incoming cable to move or remain
fixed when the tray is opened. This is important, particularly where there is limited
cable movement allowed within the rack.
IP Rated Enclosures and Cabinets
AFC offers an extensive range of IP rated enclosures to suit most industrial and
harsh environment networks.
They can be custom designed and manufactured to suit a particular application,
or fibre count, and can accommodate all types of coupler plates. They are
ideal for any plug and play solution, when used with AFC’s industrial or harsh
environment connector systems.
A variety of materials can be used in the manufacture including powder coated
mild steel or stainless steel, which makes them well suited for all mining and
Department of Defence applications.

Cable and Pre-Terminated Assemblies
AFC has a long history of supplying specialty fibre optic cable and cable
assemblies for use in harsh environments. We offer a broad range of fibre optic
cables for high bandwidth transmission of data, video (including High Definition
broadcast signals) and audio communications.
Our indoor/outdoor cables use a unique tight buffer coating and design that
provides excellent mechanical and environmental protection for the optical fibres.
The large variety of cable designs and configurations available provides long term
reliability, security, reusability and are field deployable.
Cables can be supplied on ruggedised cable reels (MARS – Modular Advanced
Reeling System) for extra cable protection and ease of installation.
Features which allow these cables to be deployed in the harshest of
environments include:
• Superior rodent protection
• High crush resistance
• Chemical and UV protection
• Compliance to Mil Spec and MSHA standards
• High bandwidth
• Long term reliability
Industrial Plug and Play (IPP) Solutions 5
AFC manufactures a comprehensive range of high quality pre-terminated cable
assemblies in our modern manufacturing facility in Melbourne. Assemblies can be
manufactured with a vast variety of connectors to virtually any combination and
length using various cable types.
Pre-terminated cables are ideal for harsh environment projects as they eliminate
the need for onsite termination and tooling and making installation easy while
protecting the fibres.
AFC offers:
• A wide range of connector and cable options
• Loose tube, riser, mil-spec, breakout cables and plastic optical fibre (POF)
• High quality factory terminated connectors
• Fibre protection during installation and hauling

Connectivity
Expanded Beam (EB) Technology
AFC’s range of expanded beam fibre optic connectors has been designed for
the most demanding industrial applications. These applications include military
tactical communications, outside broadcasts and in petrochemical, mining and
offshore systems. The expanded beam technology ensures you receive reliable
optical performance in contaminated and extreme environments.
AFC is a certified manufacturer and repairer of expanded beam connector
assemblies. Benefits of expanded beam technology:
• Resistant to dust, dirt and other contaminants
• Fibre is sealed and protected behind a glass lens, which amplifies the optical
signal for optimum data transfer
• Easily cleaned without risk of fibre damage
• Cable retention mechanism provides strength
• Hermaphroditic multi-channel connectors allow cables to be daisy chained

Multi-Channel Physical Contact Connectors
AFC offers a range of multi-channel physical contact connectivity solutions for
industrial applications including process control.
These connectors are available in a range of sizes, shell styles, materials and
mating mechanisms to suit a wide range of applications and environments. Many
cable types and sizes can be accommodated including fibre only or composite
fibre and copper for remote powering of equipment.
• Ruggedised connector housings
• Wide variety of insert configurations
• Wide variety of shell sizes
• Fibre/copper hybrids
• Hermaphroditic multi-channel connectors allow cables to be daisy chained
Ruggedised Standard Connectors
Some applications require added connector protection but do not warrant the
introduction of a specialty connector. A standard connector with a special rugged
housing is the solution for these applications. AFC offers a range of ruggedised
fibre optic connector assemblies and adapters suited to industrial environments.
• SC, LC and RJ45 standard connector types
• Various ruggedised housings and bulkheads
• IP rated housings to protect against water and dirt

Modular Advanced Reel System
The Modular Advanced Reel System (MARS) is a lightweight cable deployment
reel system designed specifically for demanding harsh environments including
underground mining and mining camps and Military applications. Unlike
traditional metal style reels, the MARS is a lightweight, modular system
constructed of high-impact glass enforced polymer that is easily transported. It is
ideal for applications where cable needs to be deployed and reeled in quickly and
stored efficiently.
It is available in a variety of deployment options including optional frames, back
packs, shipping cases and cable acquisition platforms. AFC offers a wide variety of
cable and connector options to suit any application.
