What We Do

4

• Manufacturing Solutions – specialty cutting tools, fluids,

application support services, and consulting

• Cryogenic Manufacturing Technology – delivering liquid

nitrogen thru a machine tool spindle to the cutting edge of a

tool where it meets the workpiece to reduce temperature,

reduce wear on the cutting tool, increase tool life up to 10x,

increase cutting speeds up to 5x, eliminate coolants and

lubricants, and reduce environmental and safety impact.

• Manufacturing Software – Freedom eLOG product is a

complete asset monitoring solution designed to collect and

analyze important manufacturing data in real time, straight

from the machine control.

Industry 4.0 Powered by IIoT

11

The term was first used in 2011 at the Hannover Fair. In October 2012 the Working Group on Industry 4.0 chaired by

Siegfried Dais (Robert Bosch GmbH) and Henning Kagermann (acatech) presented a set of Industry 4.0

implementation recommendations to the German federal government. On 8 April 2013 at the Hannover Fair, the final

report of the Working Group Industry 4.0 was presented.

Where is Industry 4.0 today?

Very Early – Definitions are still being developed

AMT says that less than 10% of industrial assets in manufacturing today are

being monitored. AMT is seeking to increase this number by standardizing the

language that machines speak with MTConnect.

13

Established in 2008, MTConnect is an open-source, royalty-free data

definition launched and supported by many major players in the industrial

manufacturing world.

5ME is an active member of the MTConnect Technical Advisory Group

(TAG) and we certify all of our products to be MTConnect compliant.

Data Platforms

GE is spending a lot of money making us all recognize this guy – his name is

Owen.

GE Digital, GE Predix

15

GE is launching a new data platform, hoping to be the place that collects

the data output and enables developers to showcase display, analytics,

rule-engines, and more in an “App Store” like environment.

Losant

Losant is another platform service that is more focused on providing all the

building blocks to allow custom solutions at the user level.

How To Get Involved?

The barrier to entry in this field has never been lower!

Free data streams available with MTConnect or create your own with their

published tag specifications!

Create an interface to a piece of equipment and use the MTConnect tag set

to kickoff your communication protocol!

Enter a project at AMT, MTConnect, or DMDII and get grant money!
