Message from Yi Indore Chapter Chair Dear Members, Greetings and a pleasure to be connecting with you through IndorYi Connect, yet again! As we enter into the end of the year, we in Yi are getting busier at the Chapter level and also at the National level. It is just an incredible sign of passion, commitment and team-work. We are making meaningful differences to the lives of young, bright, & passionate minds in rural India through Career Counselling Workshops. This time, Anuj Kothari & Amit Bidasaria have led the team of Basant Dhanuka, Neha A.

Mittal, and others for conducting 2 workshops in Mhow district, benefitting some 250 kids. We continue to inspire & ingnite young minds, this time collegiate youth, in the Yi's national Next Practices initiative - Road2Ideas, led by Ms Navita Mahajan and Mr Rohit Kauntia - which was flagged off from Indore with 2 teams from Acropolis Group. In the other national event - the annual 'Green I Contest' the participation of students from schools around the country was very enthusiastic and their presentations / ideas on “making their immediate neighbourhood and environment clean and green” were fantastic. I'm happy to announce that Indore's Choithram School was adjudged SECOND in this contest. Under the leadership of Co-Chair Geetesh Saraf & member Neha Bhagat, Yi Indore organized the biggest-ever yet 'Garage Sale' in association with Mr Beans Cafe. As you know, the objective of the event was to sensitize people towards environmental challenges and encourage them to limit consumerism by reusing products, and that every individual should join this revolution for the battle of survival and be a responsible inhabitant of this planet. You'll also be happy to know that your work at Yi Indore has been continuing to inspire & motivate other chapters, as I had experienced again at the third meeting of the Yi Governing Council (GC) in Chennai. Our chapter's work had also got me selected as a member of the Yi delegation to meet the Australian Prime Minister - Ms. Julia Gillard - in New Delhi. Young Indians Southern Regional Summit was held in Chennai and was a great event too (details would be sent shortly). Members Abhilasha Mimani & Aditi Toshniwal organised a fantastic evening with pot-luck dinner for the Deepawali get-together, which was also combined with the chapter's Second Members Meet. The Yi Indore's Steering Committee & the Executive Council are meeting at regular intervals to guide & execute the activities of your Chapter. Lastly, we are soon to send you a special report on a brilliant new educational project - KHUSHI SCHOOL - soon. Here's wishing you happy reading and a very happy, healthy, & prosperous New Year !

Yi Indore: Career Counselling Workshop at Mhow 13th October 2012: Mhow, near Indore The Young Indians (Yi) Indore Chapter organized the Career counseling workshop for the students of IX to XII Standard of Chahvni Parishad Vyavsayik Prashikshan Kendra, Mhow and Rishi Valley Academy, Mhow on Saturday, 13 October 2012. Young Indians (Yi) Career Counseling Initiative is a program that allows children to think in a structured manner about their dreams and aspirations. It gives exposure to the students regarding the sea of opportunity that exists beyond just being doctors or engineers. It is a tool that empowers students to self-determine their career path with support from teachers and family. During the workshop the students were exposed to different career options they can choose from and how they can find more information about the same and eventually make the right choice for their future and build a career path.

Mr. Anuj Kothari, National Chairman, Environment Young Indians, Mr Amit Bidasaria, National Chairman, Rural Initiatives, Mr Basant Dhanuka, and Ms Neha A. Mittal were the Speakers for the workshop. They briefed the students about the steps of career planning including SWOT analysis, personality testing, information gathering and the importance of practical experience and discussions. He also discussed on various job skills, behavioral skills and career opportunities in their field of study. The students were also provided with a list of 191 careers to choose from which opened up a whole new horizon. The workshop was well attended by over 250 students from both the Schools.

Yi Indore Garage Sale 2012

21st October 2012: Mr Beans- Coffee Lounge Indore Yi Indore chapter organized 'Yi Indore Garage Sale 2012', on 21 October 2012, at Mr. Beans Coffee Lounge, Indore. The objective was to sensitize people towards environmental challenges and encourage

them to limit consumerism by reusing the products. With the help of this event, Yi

members spread the message that, “Every individual should join this revolution for the

battle of survival and be a responsible inhabitant of this planet. A more radical, less

polluting lifestyle and a conscious and conscientious effort to reduce consumerism will

create a sustainable environment, which in turn will function as a better support system

for the overall functioning of the planet.”

Many good products from show-pieces and photo-frames to suitcases, music-systems, and even Apple iPod were sold and bought by

members and students at the Yi Indore Garage Sale 2012.

Yi Indore Garage Sale team reviewed the products and their prices before they went on sale to ensure that the products offered were in good

condition and at throwaway prices. Few games like TAMBOLA & lucky-draw were played by the visitors. A Rock Band performance was also

organized at the venue to amuse the visitors.

Yi Road2Ideas Flag off from Indore

01 November 2012: Lalbagh Palace, Indore Yi Next Practices presented “Road2Ideas” as part of the process of evangelizing the

spirit of innovation and inspiring the youth to think big and differently. Under this, Yi

scheduled a National Innovation

Run which passed through four

states, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh,

Maharashtra and Goa, which had

over the year's demonstrated

entrepreneurship and excellence.

The objective behind the run was to meet the innovators for observing the changes

brought at their work place and for gauging the impact of certain game changing ideas on

the community, the sector and the country at large. These innovators included unknown,

unsung heroes of India and besides world class organizations, famous for their ingenuity.

The journey started from the historical palace of Lalbagh at Indore, where Dr Rahul

Mirchandani, Past Chairman, Yi and Dr Navita Mahajan, Next Practice Chair, Yi National

briefed the students about the rules and regulations of the competition.

This was followed by the official flagging off ceremony conducted by Mr Ranjan Mimani,

Vice Chairman, CII Madhya Pradesh State Council and Mr Anshul Mittal, Chairman, CII

Malwa Zonal Council. Mr Ankit Mittal, Chair, Yi Indore Chapter, Mr Geetesh Sharaf, Co

Chair, Yi Indore chapter and Past Chairmen of Yi Indore were also present during the

occasion along with many members from Yi Indore Chapter including Mr Amit Bindsaria,

Mr Praveen Agarwal, Mr Anuj Kothari, Mr Shashank Agarwal and Mr Vinod Gupta. On

the occasion, more than 70 students from different institutes of the city were also

present to cheer up the participants of the Run.

The first innovation demonstrated to the team members was the Bio-mass Gassifier at

Devi Ahilya Bai University. A Gassifier is used for conservation of non renewable

resources such as LPG. It also helps in checking pollution and in limiting the

consumption of the liquefied gas. Here, Mr Sudhir Puloria, the founder of the site,

discussed about his dreams and hopes behind empanelling the gassifier.

From there the students visited NVIS Technologies where they had the chance to see

the rest of the innovations for the day. The second innovation was in the sphere of

electronics, Ranging from LED lights, to the Solar panel down to Robotics, had a

remarkable blend of updated gadgets in action. One special thing about the place was

its architecture. The building, its windows and the plantation around it were positioned in

such a fashion that it offered to the place a cool interior. Importantly, the office was fully

lit with natural light. The building was equipped with solar panels to reduce its

dependency on power supply informed Mr Uday Bhole, Deputy CEO, NVIS technologies

while detailing other aspects of the interior architecture with the students. Third

innovation was the 'Aadarsh Pen' meant especially for the visually impaired people.

Yi Indore: Yi Indore Chapter’s Second Members Meet and Get-together

19 November 2012: Indore

Yi Indore Chapter organized Deepawali get-together and Second members meet on 19

November 2012 at Indore. The objective for conducting Deepawali get-together was to

engage members and also to celebrate the festival by meeting each other; it was

followed by Chapter‟s Second

members meet.

The event was organized with the

help of Ms Neha Mittal, Ms Aditi

Toshniwal and Ms Abhilasha

Mimani. They engaged members by organizing various games for members. Prizes were

also distributed to the winners.

Yi Indore Chapter Chair, Mr Ankit D. Mittal, gave a presentation various activities

organized by Yi Indore Chapter, from July onwards. He invited members to share their

view on the past activities and fund raising events for future. The event concluded over a

pot-luck dinner. Members were asked to prepare and bring certain dishes for the pot-

luck.

Meeting with Australian Prime Minister

16 October 2012, Delhi In an interaction with the Australian Prime Minister Ms. Julia Gillard was organized by the

Australian High Commission in New Delhi, 40 young Indian leaders, selected from across

various walks of life from the entire country, discussed various topics, ranging from attacks on

Indian students in Australia, Australia‟s diplomatic priorities, and recognition of Australia‟s

indigenous population. Well-known television personality and the anchor of popular chat show

„The Devil‟s Advocate‟, Mr. Karan Thapar, moderated the interaction.

Amongst these 40 youth, nine were invited from CII's Young Indians (Yi), from across its 25

chapters in the country. Western & central India regions were represented by Young Indians

Indore Chapter Chair, Mr. Ankit D. Mittal.

Ms. Gillard said that both Australia and India had a large population of the youth and that the future of engagement between these two

countries was going to be defined by the young people of both the nations. She also said that youth in both the countries can contribute to the

emerging world order as the economic interests of India and Australia will continue to converge in the future. “My message to Prime Minister

Singh won‟t be about his management of your economy and his role in it, it will be about things we can do together”, she said. She claimed the

Labour government had implemented reforms in Australia which had not won it any friends but the nation would see the benefits in the future.

But in what could be seen as an acknowledgement to the young Indian leaders that the Indian government has faced reform challenges, she

said: “For politicians all around the world including here in India it is a significant challenge.” She also dismissed suggestions the US is a

declining power in the Asian region declaring that it would be a super power as far as the eye can see but part of a region where there will be

many sizeable players. And she played down concerns about rivalry between India and China saying that growth wasn‟t a zero sum game so

both countries could grow without impacting on each other. But it was the question about women‟s rights that livened up the

discussion with Ms. Gillard saying it was very topical because Australia had some complexities in this area just like India.

In a turn on the speech Ms. Julia Gillard delivered in Australia, in which she furiously attacked the leader of opposition Mr. Tony Abbott, Karan

Thapar asked if she liked Mr. Abbott. She replied "I bear him no personal ill-will. And I hope he is leader of the opposition for the rest of his

life," prompting guffaws of laughter from the 40 Indian youngsters. “We are at the midpoint of change for women in politics,” she said pointing

out the people such as former House of Representatives speaker Joan Child and Hawke government minister Susan Ryan had blazed a trail

but there was a lot more to do now.

Ms. Gillard launched Australia‟s biggest cultural promotion in India OzFest, which will run until next February.

Yi National retreat at Khajuraho 24 and 25 November 2012: Khajuraho Yi Indore Chapter hosted the Yi National retreat at Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh. The

objective for conducting the retreat was membership engagement. Yi members from

different cities across India have participated in the retreat.

The Yi National Retreat

in Khajuraho was

planned to coincide with

the last two days of the

World Heritage Week (from 19 to 25 November, 2012). On day one of the retreat,

Mr Shashank Agrawal, National Chair – Yi Retreats, organized an ice-breaking

interaction, over lunch. A light & sound show capturing the history of Khajuraho

was organized at the Western temples of Khajuraho in the evening, which was

followed by a cultural

dance program that

represented various cultures in different regions of India such as, Bhojpuri,

Punjabi, Bharatnatyam, and other forms of dance. The day concluded over dinner

at hotel Clarks.

On Day two, a guided-tour was organized at various temples where members

came to know in detail, the culture and stories related to Khajuraho. We saw some

brilliant masterpieces of Indian architecture. After the temple-tour, a fabulous

lunch was organized at the Ken River Resort, just outside the Panna National

Park, in most rustic & natural surroundings. In the evening, Yi organized the

“Indian Classical

Music Event” on the

lawns of hotel

Clarks, in almost

freezing

temperature. The lead performance was by Shri Gautam Kale, a student of the

renowned Pandit Jasraj ji, along with other artists from Indore including Shri

Hitendra Dixit, a disciple of another great Indian artist – Ustaad Allah Rakha Khan.

It was a truly memorable & mesmerizing evening, concluding with a dinner at the

hotel Lalit

TempleView, Khajuraho.

On the last day of

the retreat, many

members visited

the Panna

National Park,

from where they

routed back to

their respective locations, by evening.
