With our emphasis on Indoor Air Quality, comfort
cooling and dehumidification, we offer products
that allow you to improve the quality of your
indoor environment whilst reducing energy
consumption through efficient air treatment.
Indoor Air Quality is a vital factor affecting the
health of building occupants. With increasingly
long working hours, antiquated buildings and an
over-reliance on air-conditioning, occupants are
becoming more and more susceptible to
symptoms such as fatigue and headaches.
Enclosed spaces with little exposure to outside
air only increase the problems and illnesses
related to unhealthy environments.
The achievement of good Indoor Air Quality
depends upon a variety of factors; design,
construction, commissioning, facilities
management and building maintenance.
While the above must all play a vital role, the
major contributor to indoor comfort in the region
is the proper treatment of outside air and its
introduction to the indoor environment at a
sufficient rate. Only if all these issues are properly
addressed will buildings comply with standards
of excellence in energy efficient design.
Indoor comfort relies heavily on the introduction
of outside air. As this air contains significant
amounts of both moisture and heat, its
treatment is responsible for immense rates of
energy consumption. Only by combining the
requirements of air quality and energy efficient
air treatment can indoor climates be properly
and efficiently maintained.

Reducing the Costs of the Dehumidification Process
Dehumidifier Heat Pipes
Heat pipes significantly improve the effectiveness of dehumidification systems. They can double the moisture extraction rate while
improving the quality of the air. And it’s all done at zero running cost.
Improved air conditioning
Regional climates suffer from high humidity
combined with high temperatures. This often
results in air conditioning units supplying humid
air or excessive energy being expended on
traditional methods of overcooling and reheating.
Wrap-around, dehumidifier heat pipe systems
are fitted around the main cooling coil in the
primary air handling unit, simultaneously reducing
the load on the cooling coil and the need for
reheat further downstream. This process
provides an improvement in air quality resulting
from the additional rate of moisture removal and
the capacity to treat higher rates of outside air.
It also reduces the energy burden at no
additional cost; a heat pipe is a completely
passive device and is driven only by the
temperature difference imposed by the cooling
coil.
By using a wrap-around heat pipe in the primary
air handling unit, operating costs can be reduced
by up to 30%. At the same time, the overall
capital expenditure is unlikely to change as the
cost of the heat pipe is offset by the reduced
capital expenditure on the lower capacity cooling
system and the reduction in reheat equipment.
Not only will the energy requirement of the HVAC
equipment be reduced, but the Indoor Air Quality
will be significantly improved and lead to happier,
healthier working and living spaces.
Heat pipe advantages
• Totally passive; no moving parts
• No direct energy input
• Up to twice as much moisture
extraction as conventional systems
• No need for reheat or desiccant
systems
• Easy drainage of condensation
• Long-lasting – at least the lifetime of
the air conditioning system
• Virtually maintenance-free
• Environmentally safe

Air changes in occupied buildings are necessary
to remove pollutants and to continually refresh
the atmosphere; the greater the rate of air
changes the healthier the building. As the
outside air is hot, high energy and carbon costs
are accrued in bringing the outside air down to
the space temperature.
Wherever air is mechanically supplied and
removed from a building there is the opportunity
to install an energy-saving heat pipe – many
building regulations actually demand that heat
recovery is used. The principle is simple – the
heat pipe uses the cool dirty air from the extract
air stream to condition the incoming hot fresh air
supply and precool it prior to it being further
treated. The effectiveness of this process can be
as high as 70% and the running costs are
virtually nil due to the passive nature of the heat
pipes and their low airside pressure drops.
Additional capital expenditure is extremely low,
particularly when compared to other products
such as thermal wheels and plate heat
exchangers.
Unlike other types of heat recovery device a
heat pipe can recover and recycle heat without
the fear of contamination from the dirty extract.
Combine this with the ability to treat the heat
pipe to withstand corrosive environments and
the range of applications is virtually limitless.
Typical applications for energy recovery heat
pipes include outside air units, swimming pools,
drying processes, spray booths, laundries,
kitchens and hospitals where zero
cross-contamination is vital.
Recover up to 70% of the Heat Energy from Extracted Air
Heat Pipes for Energy Recovery
Cool extract air is a powerful weapon in the drive towards energy efficiency in the
region. Extracting air directly from a building is wasteful as this cool extract air has a
great potential for absorbing the heat from the outside air which is being introduced.
Passing the extract and outside air streams through a heat pipe heat exchanger
allows for up to 70% of the sensible cooling of the outside air to be provided free.

These systems are specifically designed to
drastically improve the air quality in the building
or facility. SPC Sanuvox proprietary systems
make it possible to deliver high amounts of UV
energy to the air stream while increasing ‘dwell
time’ between the air and the UV purifier. In
other words, the contaminated air is exposed
to the UV energy for considerably longer than
with competing systems.
These systems are designed to bask stationary
objects (usually an A/C Coil) with UVC light,
preventing and destroying mold and other
microbial growth. Although very effective in
keeping stationary objects clean, UV lamps
shining on an object will have little effect on any
other Indoor Air Quality concerns beyond the
mold laden coil.
UV Coil Cleaners have little effect on the air in
the duct. By treating the air in the duct with UV
Air Purifiers the coil will also be kept clean as the
biological contaminants in the air are reduced.
Destroy Biological Contaminants in the Moving Air Stream
Ultraviolet - Air and Object Purification
SPC Sanuvox Ultraviolet Air Purifiers are quality, cost efficient products that address
Indoor Air Quality and Sick Buildings issues by neutralizing bacteria and viruses
through exposure to UV radiation.
These industrial and commercial purifier systems can be designed to neutralize up to
99.999% of biological and chemical contaminants that travel throughout the building,
such as mold, bacteria, viruses, spores, allergens, cigarette smoke, garbage and
sewer odours, VOCs, diesel fumes and thousand of other airbourne contaminants.

Controlled and Conditioned Ventilation for Residences
DERV - Dehumidifying Energy Recovery Ventilators
DERV units are intended for energy recovery
and dehumidification of outside air in individual
residences, offices or other areas where there
is no central air conditioning plant. Behaving as
a miniature outside air handling unit, their
compact size allows them to be installed within
ceiling spaces. Ducting to and from the units
allows treated ventilation air to be supplied
direct to all zones of the residence and dirty
extract air to be removed from its various
sources.
DERV units are completely self-contained and
consist of a supply air section side by side with
an extract air section. Both supply and extract
sections incorporate powerful centrifugal fans
capable of supporting external static pressure
of up to 150Pa. An energy recovery heat pipe
straddles the supply and extract sections
allowing the hot outside air to be precooled by
the cooler extract air.
Downstream of the energy recovery heat pipe
is a cooling coil with a dehumidifier heat pipe
wrapped around it. This section of the unit
further cools the air before it is thoroughly
dehumidified by the cooling coil. The final leg of
the heat pipe then reheats the air to a
comfortable supply temperature.
If a source of chilled water is available then the
DERV unit can be equipped with a chilled water
cooling coil. If this facility is not available then the
DERV unit can be supplied with a matched
condensing unit for external mounting and the
unit equipped with a DX evaporator coil
(DERVDX unit).
The ERV unit is a variant which incorporates
only the energy recovery heat pipe and
supply/extract fans within the unit case.
This provides the possibility of energy recovery
when it is not feasible to link the unit to a supply
of chilled water or to couple it to an external
condensing unit.
DERV units combine the benefits of dehumidifier heat pipes and energy recovery
heat pipes in a single, finished unit.

The units are of a single or double skin panel
construction and panels are easily removable
for inspection and maintenance. Units
incorporate EU4 grade filters on the extract
side and EU7 grade filters on the supply side.
Each DERV unit is supplied with a fan speed
controller to allow on/off switching and setting
of the air volumes either at the unit or
remotely.
DERV units are available with a range of
options which include UV sterilisation tubes,
heat exchanger anti-corrosion coatings, sand
trap louvers and duct balancing dampers.
Four sizes of unit are available to suit the
space size and ventilation rate required with
the largest single unit supplying up to 500
litres/second.

Preserve your Conditioned Indoor Environment with Air Curtains
Air Curtains

Due to increasing environmental
concerns and high energy costs there
is a need to keep doors CLOSED to
prevent warm air and moisture ingress
in hot and humid climates.
To encourage high pedestrian footfall or
goods traffic, an “open door” policy is
often followed leading to the converse
need to keep doors OPEN.
SPC’s range of air curtains drive a powerful
stream of cool air across an open doorway,
which reduces the inward draught of warm air,
humidity and pollutants. Air curtains make life far
more comfortable in
busy locations such as
shops, factory loading
bays, and public
buildings by “locking in”
the conditioned air.
The correct specification is vital for air
curtains - incorrectly specified units can
increase heat gains and all units must be sized,
selected and positioned carefully.
SPC will advise on the correct solution for you
from their range of commercial and designer
units on offer.
Key reasons to install an Air Curtain
• Reduces energy loss by up to 80%
• Minimises temperature fluctuations
• Immediate comfort
• Maintains air conditioned environment
• Exhaust, Smoke & Fume Control
• Dust & Pollen Control
• Insect Control
• De-stratification
