1. The Three Most Impressive Observations

I had the three most incredible experiences during the field trip, which are tour of facilities

including weather station, maintenance department, and fuelling station, experiences of sitting in

the cockpit of a real aircraft and viewing instrument panels, and attending a short presentation

(“Sightseeing Flights and Group Tours”).

- Short Presentation

When I just arrived at Brampton Flying Centre, I met three instructors and were taught “how

aircraft fly, the parts of the aircraft, the phonetic alphabet, jobs in aviation, and how to get a Pilot

Licence” (“Sightseeing Flight and Group Tours”). When it comes to learning the parts of the

aircraft, I thought that it will be useful to learn in my FIS course now because the materials

including the structure of aircraft were similar to what the instructors taught.

- Tour of Facilities

After listening to presentation, I went to some facilities, such as maintenance department and

fuelling station by following instructors, in order to see the real aircraft work. Even though it was

very cold to stand outside listening to the instructor’s explanations, I was very impressive to

view facilities in reality.

- Experiences for Some Real Aircrafts

I and my classmates had a lot of fun with moving around all aircrafts and taking pictures of

them. We sat in the aircrafts and saw instrument panels. Therefore, I thought that these were the

most enjoyable experiences during this trip.

2. Two Different Feelings I Experienced

Prior:

While taking the bus for almost two hours, I felt bored and tired of anticipating the trip. When I

heard from my professor that we are going on a field trip, I thought that I may become exhausted

easily because everybody said that the distance is so far from school. Moreover, I never heard

about the word “Brampton Club”, compared to Air Canada Jazz, so I felt that it would be a

difficult assignment to write about it after touring.

After:

During the trip, I felt that I had a mistake with thinking about the tour. It was also an interesting

tour because I could have an experience that pilots have. Especially, I wanted to take a lot of

pictures while on tour, so I had a big chance to see the aircrafts and have photos. Even though we

only had one hour and half minutes to go on a trip, I felt like there was something I missed.

3. Description for Three Points I learned

1) Some Training Programs I Heard

When I attended the short presentation, I learned that there are many educational training

programs at Brampton Centre. Students who want to be pilots or flight attendants can have

lessons in its flight school. They learn “a real-world application of mathematics, trigonometry,

physics, meteorology, and geography, as well as an introduction to aerodynamics” (“Educational

Programs”). I realized that students who learn those materials can be motivated of choosing their

jobs in the future.

2) Interesting Phonetic Alphabets

I had a lesson from one instructor that I introduced my name with using phonetic alphabets and

learned air code for the Incheon International Airport. I heard that they are usually used for some

formal letters, such as telephone call for customer service and some communications. It was

impressive for me to pronounce my name, which are ‘D’ as delta, ‘I’ as India, ‘A’ as alpha, ‘N’

as November, and ‘A’ as alpha.

3) Mission Statement

I also learned that there is a mission statement, which is “EDUCATE, ENABLE, and

COMMUNITY to ACHIEVE their DREAMS in AVIATION” (“Mission Statement & Values”).

The staff give students to have the flying experiences and friendly environment to work.

4. Two New Things during the Trip

1) Information about Brampton Flying Club

One of three instructors told us that this center has been built since 1946 and has provided many

Canadian top pilots every year. When it comes to operating this center, it is a non-profit

corporation for employees. The instructor also mentioned during the trip that “there are 162

hangars located on the field, and about 200 private aircraft are based here” (“Brampton Flying

Club”). I was so surprised to hear that I could feel like I wanted to apply for my job here and be

trained by them.

2) Women in Aviation

The instructor explained that Brampton Flying Club tried to attract more women in aviation

nowadays, in order to give them many opportunities to get jobs. Even though the government

still prevented women from “becoming pilots, flight instructors, aircraft maintenance engineers

(AMEs), aviation managers” (“BFC Womens Aviation Network”) whom men even feel that it is

difficult to be, this center tried encourage women to choose aviation and gave many career

programs. Their goal is to support both men and women to be involved, by creating “the

Women’s Aviation Network” (“BFC Womens Aviation Network”).
