Orientation Programme for the First Year Engineering Students – 22/7/13

Indira College of Engineering and Management (ICEM) conducted an orientation

programme for the First Year Engineering students on the auspicious occasion of Gurupornima

on 22nd

July 2013. The programme was executed in three sessions. The proceedings of the

programme are furnished below.

Session 1 (8 a.m – 10.00 a.m.)

1. Presentation by Dr. Parul Gupta

Dr. Parul Gupta, Head of the First Year Department, greeted the first year students at Indira

College of Engineering and Management (ICEM). She gave them an idea about the life at ICEM.

She also discussed the first year curriculum and examination pattern. She explained them how

the engineering studies differ from their previous studies. She educated them about the dress

code and other rules and regulations to be followed at ICEM.

2. Introduction of FE Faculty Members

The students were then introduced to their prospctive faculty members.

Session 2 (10.30 a.m. – 12.10 p.m.)

3. The second session started with the national anthem.

4. This was followed by the lightening of the lamp of knowledge by all the dignitaries.

5. Orientation Address by the Director Dr.R.V. Kulkarni

The honorable director, Dr. R.V. Kulkarni addressed the students. He guided them about the

essential skills they need to cultivate in themselves during their four year tenure at ICEM in

order to become industry ready. He specifically encouraged the students to improve their

communication skills.

6. Presentation by Vice Principal Dr. Poorna Shankar – “ABOUT INDIRA”

The respected Vice principal, Dr. Poorna Shankar educated the students about the history of

Indira Group of Institutes. The students were introduced to the Chairperson Dr.Tarita Shankar

and the Group Director Prof. Chetan Wakalkar. She introduced various courses run at Indira

Group of Institutes. Furthermore, she briefed the students about various academic activities,

events conducted and facilities available at ICEM.

1. Speech by Deputy Director, Admin, Capt. Satish Pande

There can be no organization without administration. They go hand in hand. Success in

administration stands or falls on the skill in planning and execution. Success in administration

leads to the success of the organization. The Deputy Director, Admin, Capt. Satish Pande

informed the students about transport, hostel and maintenance. He also guided them about the

rules and regulations to be followed at ICEM.

2. Presentations by Training and Placement Officers

Recruiters repeatedly visit the Indira campus to capture the cream of our students. The

career oriented curriculum and the soft skills training provided at ICEM ensure that every student

gets placed in jobs commensurate with his/ her background, skills and competencies. Mr. Shashi

Bhatt and Mr. Srinivas Bramandam look after the placements of students at ICEM. They

informed the students about the selection criteria for placements. The students received

information about the companies visiting college campus. Mr. Srinivas shared very educative

videos regarding the necessity of programming.

3. Presentation by Director Sports, Mr. Sunil Pansare

Indira recognizes the importance of sports and recreation for the overall development of

student’s personality. Play grounds for Outdoor games as well as facilities for indoor games are

available and students are encouraged to make use of them. Mr. Sunil Pansare, Director Sports

addressed the students and informed them about the various sports activities conducted at ICEM.

He also shared the past achievements of ICEM students in sports. He showed the progress of the

sports department in the past few years through an audio visual presentation. He also informed

the students about Avishkar.

1. Presentation by the Head of IT Support, Mr. Sachin Kamble

We live in the era of globalization where technology plays a very important role in

bringing people closer. Our institute, too, is well equipped with latest technology to make the

learning process more effective. Mr. Sachin Kamble, the Head of IT Support addressed the

students and informed them about the infrastructure of entire campus, type of internet connection

available at ICEM. He also guided them about the student login to Microsoft online, how to use

skydrive & dreamspark account. Even guided the students to access online exam database & how

to prepare for the university’s final examination.

Session 3 ( 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.)

2. Presentation by the Librarian, Mr. Vishal Gaikwad

A library plays a very important role in promoting the progress of knowledge. The

librarian at the ICEM library, Mr. Vishal Gaikwad communicated the information about the

library at ICEM with the student. He informed about the books in the library, digital library and

accessibility to the national and international journals at ICEM.

3. Presentation by the HOD Mechanical, Prof.Sunil Ingole

Mechanical branch is one of the most sought after branches in Engineering. Prof. Sunil Ingole,

the Head of the Mechanical Department, addressed the students. He made the students aware

about the day-to-day utility of the products created in mechanical field. He informed them about

the courses offered at the mechanical department. The staff members were introduced. He

explained the students the importance of mechanical engineering.

4. Presentation by the HOD Computers, Prof. Manisha Bharti

Prof. Manisha Bharti, the Head of the Computer Department addressed the students. She

informed them that a computer engineer is the brain behind every machine created. She

explained the importance of programming and computer engineers. She also introduced the staff

members in her department.

5. Presentation by the HOD E & TC, Prof. Anjali Patki

Prof. Anjali Patki, the Head of the E & TC Department, addressed the students. The students

were given some basic information about the E & TC branch. She introduced the staff members

in her department. She informed the students about the intake of the course and the placements in

the past.

6. Presentation by Prof. Mahesh Waghmare on the behalf of HOD Civil

Prof. Mahesh Waghmare addressed the students on behalf of Prof. Vijay Wairagade, the Head of

the Civil Department. He gave the students some information about the civil branch and

explained why construction is very important in life.

7. Presentation by Prof. Amol Harale

In the age of globalization, engineering students and practitioners need to enhance

their English communication skills and other soft skills in order to cope with the

increasingly tough competition in the job market. Prof. Amol Harale, a soft skill trainer at ICEM,

explained about the importance of English. He advised the students on what they can do to

improve their communication skills. He also encouraged the students to use only English on the

campus to develop their comfort level with the language.

8. The function ended with the vote of thanks by Mrs.Leena Jadhav. She expressed her

gratitude towards all the dignitaries and teachers for gracing the occasion and guiding the

students. She thanked the support staff members for their presence and contribution to

the function. She ended with thanking the students for being good audience.

9. Introduction to the campus

After the function, the students were taken to the important places in the campus to make them

comfortable with the campus.
