Hello Chapter M & Friends, We met with the ride committee and I think we came up with a pretty good ride schedule for 2020. We have some short rides, long rides, overnight rides and even some rides that are intended to get Ice Cream. I hope we will have good turnouts for the rides we have scheduled. Carol and I decided to break down and get a new Goldwing this year. If any of you know anyone that is looking for a good starter bike our 1500 will be up for sale shortly. The District Ride for southern Indiana looks to be a pretty interesting ride. It will start at Bedford and ride from there south to the river and ride some of the roads in Perry County. The ride will be June 6th and 7th. On the evening of the 6th they will be staying at Corydon, Indiana and go north from there. Our next District event will be Spring Wing. It will be in Nashville, IN, May 15th and 16th. On Sunday they will be riding to Neuhaus, so if you want to go to Spring Wing and Neuhaus you can do both. Sorry about canceling the Gathering this month but with the COVID-19 virus that is going around and the people it is affecting, Phoenix, the District, and even your Chapter Officers thought it would be in the best interest for everyone concerned to take this month off. FEBRUARY DISCUSSIONS 1. Gary opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and prayer.
2. Gary welcomed the members, recognized our Couples of the Year and Individuals of the Year past and
present who were in attendance.
3. Howard Gingerich gave the safety report on the dangers of intersections. Half of all motorcycle accidents happen at intersections with the majority being caused by a car/truck turning in front of the motorcycle who has the right-of-way.
4. Indiana District Rider Education will be offering Advanced Rider and Trike Rider Courses at Evansville this spring. More information can be found in the EVENTS pages of this newsletter.
5. The Indiana District 2020 ride contest will be Goldwing Scrabble. Starting with GWRRA Goldwing down
the center of the “scrabble board” the names of cities and towns visited by you on your bike will be added. A photo should be taken of your bike at the post office, city welcome sign, etc. A link for the game board can be found in the EVENTS pages of this newsletter.
6. The quarterly Silent Auction was held, and several items exchanged hands and the profits added to the Chapter funds.
7. WE ARE IN NEED OF SOMEONE TO STEP-UP AND FILL THE ASSISTANT CHAPTER DIRECTOR AND NEWSLETTER EDITOR POSITIONS. Gary and Carol are looking to step down as Chapter Directors in about a year and would like to see someone in the Assistant CD position that can move up to CD so we can continue to be an active chapter. If you can help out in either position please let Gary, Carol or Marilyn know.
8. May 15-16 will be the district Spring Wing Warm Up at Nashville, IN. There will be helicopter rides offered at SWWU if enough people pre-register to cover the cost of the aircraft and fuel. More information is in the EVENTS in this newsletter.
9. The Ride committee will be meeting soon to plan the 2020 ride schedule.

The 10 Most Common Causes of
Motorcycle Accidents December 09, 2016

As motorcycle enthusiasts ourselves, we understand the many challenges and dangers that motorcyclists face out on the road. As attorneys, we have also seen just how serious a motorcycle accident can be. Because motorcyclists lack any sort of surrounding protective structure on their vehicles, they are more likely to suffer severe or fatal injuries when they are involved in a collision. In fact, motorcyclists are, on average, 27 times more likely than passenger car occupants to die in a crash per vehicle mile traveled, and are over five times as likely to be injured.
The following are the 10 most common causes of motorcycle accidents:
• Unsafe lane changes. A driver risks colliding with a motorcyclist when he or she fails to check his or her blind spot or signal when changing lanes.
• Car doors. Some motorcycle accidents occur when a driver opens the door of their parked vehicle in the path of an oncoming motorcycle.
• Speeding. A leading cause of all types of auto accidents, speeding reduces a vehicle’s chance of seeing and reacting to other drivers in time to prevent a collision. The higher the speed, the greater the impact and the more severe the consequences.
• Driving under the influence. Drivers who cause accidents because they were driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs may face both civil and criminal liability.
• Lane splitting. Driving between two lanes of traffic is called “lane splitting.” This practice is not legal in Florida and is especially dangerous for inexperienced riders.
• Sudden stops. Rear-end accidents resulting from following too closely or an abrupt stop can result in serious injury or death to a motorcyclist.
• Inexperienced drivers. Inexperienced drivers are likely to make unsafe moves on the road that could compromise the safety of other motorists.
• Left turn accidents. Right of way errors or misjudgments of distance while making a left turn are common causes of injury and death to motorcycle riders.
• Dangerous road conditions. Crumbling pavement, potholes, debris, and a lack of necessary signals and signs can all increase a motorcycle rider’s chances of losing control of his or her vehicle.
• Motorcycle defects. The manufacturer of a poorly designed or manufactured motorcycle part can be held liable for any injuries or deaths arising from use of the defective part.
