Tribal Consultation
Meeting
The ESSA tribal consultation
meeting was held on
Wednesday, January 29th at
EPSAC. Fifty people attended
from the metro school dis-
tricts which included 20 Trib-
al Representatives from ten
tribes.
The consultation was well
attended and a meaningful
dialogue took place with the
goal of working together on
behalf of our Indian students
in the metro school districts.
The Title VI program is currently working on Title VI ED 506 Indian Student Eligibility forms for students in the district. The number of forms for the district will be provided for the Part I Title VI application grant. Information to be reminded about includes the following information: A completed Indian Student Eligibility Certification Form (ED 506) is needed for each child. A new ED 506 form does NOT have to be completed each year. The form will be managed
and maintained on file at the Indian Education office. You may contact our office if you have multiple children to ensure each one has a form on
file. A form that indicates, “CDIB is available”, must have a copy of the CDIB submitted to the
Indian Education office. Please be reminded forms are maintained at the Indian Education Office to be considered for
the student count. Should an applicant need assistance completing the form, you may contact our office. You may go to https://edmondschools.net/programs/federal-programs/ for additional infor-
mation.

The Edmond Public Schools Indian Education Programs consist of Title VI and Johnson
O’Malley. Both programs are federally funded through the Department of Education and
the Department of the Interior. The programs have been in the Edmond Public Schools
since 1974 and 1989, respectively. Both programs have their unique services and activi-
ties that are provided and scheduled throughout the school year.
The Edmond Indian student population is approximately 5% of the Edmond Public
School’s student population. The tribal composition consists of 57 federally recognized
tribes. Twenty-nine tribes are from Oklahoma and twenty-eight tribes are from out of
state tribes.
GOAL: To increase the avenues and broaden the educational tools through which
Native American students may connect with their culture, thereby enhancing cultural
identity while promoting success in the academic arena.
