India’s Top Ranked Boarding School in Mussoorie.
Headmaster’s Pen *Unlocking Learning during Lockdown.*
We live in a world which is changing constantly; every now and then we
are required to adopt new ways of working. Present becomes history
overnight, what is new turns into an obsolete process in a blink of an eye.
Similarly during lockdown period, we need to come up with a plan that
would keep our students on track (learning) throughout.
There are few things we can do to make learning possible during
lockdown.
-Help the students set a routine which would include light stretching
exercises, breathing exercise, yoga and prayer.
- Parents to ensure students to do their household work themselves (make
bed, dusting, arranging books on shelves etc.)
- Students must be encouraged to develop hobbies during this time.
- Students should also utilize this time in creative work like poems,
stories, art, music etc.
- Helping students to become self-learner. Today CBSE is fully equipped
with online learning resources and platforms like Diksha, E-pathshala,
NROER, SWAYAM, SWAYAM PRABHA, CBSE Shiksha Vani, Youtube channels
of NIOS and CBSE.
- Virtual classrooms, recorded lectures, voice notes are some of the ways
which can be used to bridge the gap between teacher and students.
“We must teach students that lockdown should not be looked upon as
holidays; instead it is the time to become responsible and responsive”.

Teachers’ Column
What changes has this
lockdown brought in your life?
For the first time ever schools in
India have moved to online
classrooms. keeping yourself and
the students engaged has
become the priorities in the
lockdown, and virtual classes
have proved to be helpful in these
difficult Times .
Teachers are fighting Covid -19,
serving the nation and shaping
the future of tomorrow. For me, it
is a new learning as a teacher
today. This difficult situation has
taught me to unlearn a lot of
things and learn some more.
How are you spending your
lockdown days?
During this lockdown, I am trying to
learn new technologies and adapt
innovative ways for teaching that may
help out students.
Which one do you find better
working at school or working from
home?
The bright and smiling faces of
students are a driving force for
teachers , which are not very clear
online, Also that bond/rapport which
is in conventional classroom, is
missing.
What new aspects you have to add
to your teaching skills?
I have to teach according to the
learning outcomes provided by the
CBSE as this not the time where we
can beat about the bush.
I have to acquaint myself with best
possible apps and online services
which can meet my purpose.

Teachers’ Column
What changes has this lockdown
brought in your life?
I’m stuck at my relative’s place due to
lockdown and as such I'm missing my
family a lot. I think that we have now
realized the importance of family and
how happiness just means to have
some quality time with our loved
ones.
Do you think shift in education
pattern is permanent or temporary.
I personally think that online teaching
is only for exigencies and the change
won’t be suitable in the long run. It
might work for selected grads and
professional courses .
Mr. Michael Mrs. Veena McGregor Mr. Rakesh Bhatt
Which one do you find better
working at school or working from
home?
Working from home is a bit
challenging as I am a kind of person
who loves to be with children at
school. I’m missing those days.
School atmosphere fosters better
work-life balance.
Do you think shift in education
pattern is permanent or temporary.
It’s not permanent but definitely it is
not same as before. Shift to online
tools has changed the role of
teachers. We have become coaches
and mentors.
What are the challenges in
teaching online.
In the time of global pandemic
schools are exploring online teaching
and learning aids, challenges such as
keeping a track of students progress
and conducting on the spot
assessment lie ahead as compare to
classroom teaching.
