• In an analysis of mAtrA-vrittas - combinations that obtain certain meters or mAtrAs, Virhanka analyzes a mixture of short (laghu) and long (guru) syllables that appear in a meter.

• For example, the gAyAtri mantra contains \the string sa-vi-tur-va-reN-yam, in which tur and reN are long or guru, the others being short or laghu. Using G and L for guru and laghu, we can write this meter as LLGLGL, which is the kernel of the famous gAyAtri chhanda.

In the mAtrA-vritta analysis, G is taken to be twice as long as an L syllable, and Virahanka considers the question: in how many ways can we form meters of length n?

• The answer emerges as follows: L • G, LL • LG, GL, LLL • GG, LLG, LGL, GLL, LLLL • LGG, GLG, LLLG, GGL, LLGL, LGLL, GLLL, LLLLL

• This word is one of many words of Indian origin that passed into common English, or at least the British English dialect of it, during the British Imperial rule of India. As travellers at the time would be part of a caravan, the term V referred to the killing of a large number of people in a single operation. There is some question as to the extent of the religious dimension of V. Most contemporary sources described V as being a religious cult but some modern sources feel it was merely a specialised form of organised crime or paramilitary activity..V?????

• According to a legend, the birth of V was prophesized by Pir Bhikan Shah, a fakir from Thaksa village (now in Karnal District of Haryana).

One day, Bhikan Shah bowed towards the east during his prayers, contrary to the standard Islamic practice of bowing in the direction of Qibla. When the villagers questioned his strange act, he stated that a special child, the savior chosen by the God, would be born in Patna, which lay to the East. He then traveled to Patna with a group of his followers to see the child. He placed two bowls of sweets before the newborn; one bowl was purchased from a Hindu's shop, and the second from a Muslim's shop, thus signifying the two major contemporary religions in India. The baby placed his hands on both the bowls, thus indicating that both Hindus and Muslims will be treated equally by him. According to another legend, the fakir Araf Din of Lakhnaur (now in Ambala District) also bowed to the boy, and proclaimed him as divine

• V was born as Srivastava. His father Sharada Prasad was a poor school teacher. When V was three months old, he slipped out of his mother's arms into a cowherd's basket at the ghats of the Ganges. The cowherd, who had no children, took the child as a gift from God and took him home. His parents lodged a complaint with the police, who traced the child, and returned him to his parents.

• While in Varanasi, the boy once went with his friends to see a fair on the other bank of the Ganges. On the way back he had no money for the boat fare. Instead of borrowing from his friends, he jumped into the river and swam to the other bank.

• V was a legendary figure of Indian motorsports. Apart from being a successful formula car racer, was also a designer and constructor of several formula cars, his most famous design being the Formula Maruti open wheeled race car. His low cost cars helped other racers,to their entry into motorsports. A wealthy industrialist, he was later killed in an air crash, aged 41.One of his early complete in-house designs was the 300 BHP Formula Monoposto based on the Formula Atlantic Chevron B40 model nicknamed “Black Beauty”. But until the late 80's, motorsports was only for wealthy drivers. In an effort to make racing more affordable in India and improve grassroots level racing he designed and tested a small single seater, dubbed as India's Formula Ford, with a Maruti 800 engine, and adapting easily available parts, sometimes made in-house. His second design was a two seater car named McDowell 1000 using a Maruti Gypsy 1.0 liter engine.Later years saw future national champions making their debut races in a Formula Maruti series,He died on 24th of August 1995 while flying a Puspak trainers aircraft. The purpose of flying was to log some additional flying time as required to retain his flying license. The accident was widely mourned by the racing sceneHis demise almost created a vacuum in Indian Motorsports with dwindling crowds in the Chennai track and after the 1997 season made the MMSC scrap the All India Grand Prix Meet altogether.A small airstrip in Coimbatore is also named in his honour.whis V??
