SCOPE

Explanatory Note

AVAILABILITY OF DOCUMENTS

1. This index, prepared by the Technical.OperationB andpublications Service of the Dag Hammarskjold Library atUnited Nations Headquarters, is intended to offer a biblio­graphical guide to the proceedings and documentation of theforty-ninth regular session of the Trusteeship Council.

ARRANGEMENT

2. The index consists of the following parts for each ses-sion:

( a) Introduction, including list of officers and check­lists of meetings of the Trusteeship Council;

( b) Agenda, with reference to the relevant subjectheadings used in Part (c);

(c) Subject index. Suujects are arranged alpha­betically, with reference to the documentation, discussion,and disposition of each item. Agenda item numbers areindicated in parentheses following the subject headings;

(d) Index to speeches. Speeches and statements byrepresentatives are listed in alphabetical order by countryor organization, subdivided by subject discussed and byname of speaker, with an indication of the meeting at whichthe speech was made. Statements and speeches made byprivate individuals representing an organization to which ahearing was granted are listed under the name of the orga­nization. Statements made by officers of the United NationsSecretariat are listed under the name of the office or de­partment they represented;

( e ) Numerical list of documents, arranged bydocument symbols.

3. Meeting records of the Council are issued only as ver­batim records in provisional form with corrigenda providedas appropriate to cover substantive corrections submittedby delegations. They may be identified by their symbol (T/PV. -), followed by an ordinal number corresponding to thatof the meeting (e. g., T/PV. 1523). A Checklist of Meetingsis included in the Introduction to each session.

Of the other documents, some are later printed asAnnexes in the Sessional Fascicle to the Official Records.Resolution and decisions adopted by the Trusteeship Coun­cil at the 49th session are collected in printed SupplementNo.1 to the Official Records of the session.
