JUNIORS - CONDITIONS OF COMPETITIONS

1. Current rules of golf apply.

2. Entry fee for the Club competitions will be as set by the Club.

3. Competition entry procedures are as published on the Junior notice board.

4. Active / inactive entries as specified in the Junior Protocol (see binder in the Junior Locker

room).

5. Competitions will if possible be played in threes and there must be a minimum of four juniors

to enable the competition to be played.

6. Only juniors will be allowed to caddy in Club junior competitions.

7. Ties will be decided as per the Club's "Men's & Mixed Conditions of Competitions" (on Junior

notice board).

8. Knockout competitions will be governed by the Club's rules contained in the "Men's & Mixed

Conditions of Competitions" (on Junior notice board).

9. When a junior Club competition falls on the same day as a men's or ladies’ Club competition

which is held on a scheduled date, an Elite Junior member is expected to play in the junior Club

competition of the day. If this rule is broken, the player will be disallowed entry into the next

two competitions.

(This does not apply to a round of a Club knockout competition arranged between competitors on days to suit the players, as such a round is not a scheduled-date Club competition. Please note that the ladies’ EWGA medals are not Club competitions).

10. Players must make themselves aware of the Club's "suspension of play" directions as published

on the information board outside the Pro Shop.

11. After play, all competitors must report back to the Pro Shop with their competition cards.

Failure to do so will result in the player being disallowed entry into the next competition.

12. When juniors enter a Club competition they are expected to complete the full round. If for an

exceptional reason they can’t do so, they MUST report back to the Pro Shop to be signed off

the Child Protection register. Failure to do so will result in the player being disallowed entry

into the next two Club competitions for which they are eligible.

13. Failing to attend any event without explanation, having previously agreed to do so, will result

in the player being disallowed entry into the next two Club competitions.

14. Disputes must be reported to the Junior Golf Manager and if warranted will then be referred

to the Golf Committee.

CLUB HANDICAPS - shown on the Club's computer as "Juniors"

The Club can allocate a starting handicap for a new junior player up to a maximum of 45 for both boys and girls. Girls always play off red tees, but boys play off either the reds or yellows according to ability, as follows:- Boys with handicaps 45 down to 37:- play off RED TEES in all junior competitions they enter. Boys with handicaps 36 down to 29:- play off YELLOW tees in all junior competitions they enter. Administration:- Club handicappers' cards from qualifying competitions are entered into the club's computer and adjusted automatically. However, the scores of competitors playing off Club handicaps are ignored when the computer calculates the competition standard scratch (CSS).

CONGU Handicaps

When boys / girls achieve a playing handicap of 28 / 36 respectively (or less), they come under the CONGU handicapping system. Juniors with these handicaps play off tees specified by the conditions of the competition they are entering. In general, this will be WHITE tees for boys and RED for girls, (although a competition played off yellow tees can also be qualifying). Administration:- Cards from qualifying competitions are entered into the club's computer and results assessed automatically. Handicaps are suitably adjusted by the software, and the information is uploaded to the Central Database of Handicaps (CDH), a nationwide information bank.

ELITE JUNIORS

(formerly called Adult Juniors)

Both boys and girls can apply to the club for this Elite Junior status. The advantages of being an Elite Junior are:- Boys may compete in the vast majority of men's and mixed club competitions. Girls may compete in all the ladies' section competitions and the mixed club competitions. The annual subscription is higher for EJs to reflect these advantages. There are no restrictions as to when EJs may play on the course, although our Child Protection Document does stipulate that under 12s must not be on the course on their own.

To qualify for Elite Junior status, the following handicaps must first be achieved:- Boys 15 Girls 25

To apply for Elite Junior status, a junior should firstly put their request in writing to the Junior Golf Manager. Upon the JGM's approval of this request, it will then be put before the G & S committee. If approved by them, formal notification by letter will be sent from the club's office.

Other points to note:-

Elite Juniors are first and foremost members of the Junior section. Junior Club competitions take precedence over men's or ladies' Club competitions. The granting of this status is discretionary. Elite Juniors must play a minimum of six junior competitions per season. Only one EJ is allowed in any group or pairing in an adult competition. Elite Junior status can be withdrawn at any time, on the JGM's recommendation and the Golf & Social Committee's approval.

* IMPORTANT INFORMATION *

English Women's Golf Association's Medals

The ladies' section of the club currently runs 16 EWGA medals, with 8 held on Tuesdays and 8 on Saturdays. These are open to all EWGA members with CONGU handicaps. Junior girls with CONGU handicaps are encouraged to play in them, and must be allowed to do so if they wish. There is no entry fee for an EWGA medal. When one of these Saturday EWGA medals is played on the same day as a junior section competition here at Clacton, the girls will decide whether they want to play in either the EWGA medal run by the ladies' section, or the junior competition of the day. There are pros and cons either way - not playing in the junior competition means no chance of earning Henshall Shield points. On the other hand, playing in the EWGA medal means the chance for the score to count towards the aggregate of their four best scores over the year. Our club's winner goes forward to contest the EWGA medal regional final. The English Golf Union (EGU, which governs men and boy golfers) does not run a similar competition. The EGU and the EWGA are in talks at the moment with a view to merging. Both organisations have excellent websites.

TOP DOG TROPHY Open to all juniors

The Club entry fee is payable only once on first entry.

The competition will be played off the white tees (when they are in place), yellow tees and red tees. (See Handicaps info on page 3).

The competition will be a singles strokeplay league event with a variety of scoring formats - medal, stableford and bogey/par, to be decided by the day's Starter.

It may be that rounds could be cancelled because of bad weather, course closure or not enough players. With this in mind, the following schedule will apply:-

Number of Top Dog rounds Number of rounds for which scores count 3, 4 or 5 3 6 or 7 4 8 or 9 6 10+ 7

There must be a minimum of four competitors starting a round. If less than four, the Top Dog round will be cancelled.

League points will be earned from each round. 6 points for the winner, 5 for the runner up, 4 next, then 3, 2 and down to 1 point if there are 6 or more players; otherwise, 6 points for the winner, then down to minimum of 3 points. The winner of the Top Dog competition will be the player with the highest number of league points from the number of counting rounds.

If two or more players are tied at the conclusion of the league, divide each total score of those tied by the number of rounds each played in.

Handicapping:- Scores in rounds played over the full 18 holes will count for handicap providing that the overall length of the course off the yellow tees is not reduced by more than 100 yards, and that there are no more than two temporary greens. When conditions allow handicaps can be adjusted; otherwise, scores will count for the Top Dog competition only. Weather Conditions:- The Starter on the day will decide if weather conditions allow the full 18 holes to be played; otherwise the round may be played over 13 or 9 holes only. Henshall Shield (Junior King of Korse) The final positions in the Top Dog winter league competition will earn points for the Henshall Shield. Six points to the winner, the runner up 5 points, and so on.
