From the PrincipalFrom the PrincipalFrom the PrincipalFrom the Principal

Congratulations to the P&C for organising a very successful movie night last Friday. Unfortunately I was

unable to attend but I hear that it was very well attended and the students and parents engaged in plenty of

conversation and fun. It was a wonderful social event, thank you to Pam Birnie for coordinating the set up

and pack up on the evening.

Big congratulations to our Rugby League team who came runners-up in the State Competition! Thank you to Mr Beard for

organising the training and leading the boys on competition day and to our parents who were able to attend. We are all very

proud of the boys’ achievement; you can view their trophy in Administration.

Changes for 2017

2017 will be a year where we continue to implement programs and structures to

further enhance positive outcomes for all students. There will be a few staff

changes next year as we see the retirement of Mrs Seredynski and a few teaching

staff who will continue to drop their work time which makes way for new

appointments to be made. Another significant change will be the permanent

appointment of Mr Scott Palmer to Goomalling Primary School as Principal. I would

like to congratulate Mr Palmer for such an excellent achievement. We are now

definitely losing Mr Palmer but I know that you will join me in wishing him every

success in his permanent appointment.

The staff changes mean that we have seven new appointments for 2017. The

permanent appointments are: Mr Alex Righton, Mrs Alison Guhl, Mrs Sarah Kyle

and Ms Courtney Coleman-Brown. The fixed term appointments (12 months) are:

Mrs Jodie Reid, Mrs Natalie Hunter-Smith and Mrs Christiana Nicholson. I would

like to congratulate them all on their appointments to Poynter PS.

I have included the classes for 2017 in the table to the right. We have an enrolment

of 523 students for next year and a total of 20 classes; this is one more class than

in 2016. We only have one split class in 2017 as this is regulated by the number of

students in each cohort and the rules and regulations by which we are bound in

creating classes. I will go through these rules and regulations at the P&C meeting

on 30 November, so please come along. Staffing is a fairly complicated process

but I really believe that we have come up with the best scenario for 2017.

Our specialists programs will still continue with our very talented team of Mr Wilson, Mrs Herriman and Mrs Theodosiadis

(Madame). We welcome back Mr Schwarz as he is returning to Poynter Primary School for 2017.

Our other continued appointment is that of Ms Gibbings to the Gifted and Talented (G&T) coordinator role for three days a

week. This year she has made some incredible gains in the development of our school policy and procedures in G&T. We will

be able to continue to use her expertise, knowledge, skills and understanding across the school from Kindy to Year 6. You will

be able to learn all about her role at the Whole School Parent Information Evening in Term 1.

You will also notice that we are shifting the rooms around to cater for the students’ cohorts. This means that our senior

students will be swapping with our middle years’ students. The class placement process has not been completed yet but I

hope that we will be able to finalise these by the end of the year. I will let you know if and when that occurs.

THE ARTS Congratulations to all the students who performed at the Instrumental Soiree last evening . Thank you also to the parents

and families who supported them at the concert.

The Ensemble Soiree takes place on: Thursday 8 December commencing at 6pm. Dress: Performance uniform for

students in Years 5 and 6 and school uniform for students in Year 4. Venue: Undercover area and grassed

quadrangle. Students will be required at school for 5.15pm for their instruments to be tuned and ready for performance.

Ensembles included are: String Ensemble, Year 5 Training Band, Year 6 Concert Band, Senior Orchestra

String Quartet, Year 5/6 Choir. Please bring a picnic blanket, picnic tea and/or chairs to enjoy a lovely evening of

entertainment from our talented students. This is a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our music students and

to see the massive improvements they have made over the year. We look forward to sharing our performances with you.

CHOIR: Apart from the Soirees, the choir has been invited to perform a concert at the Trinity Aged Care facility in Duncraig.

Unfortunately, we are limited to a total of 30 students to perform due to the limitations of the performing space. 30 choir

students will be selected to participate in the excursion which builds connections with our wider community and gives our

students the opportunity to engage with a different generation.

Contributions and Charges for 2017

As per legislative requirements I am attaching to this Newsletter our Contribution and Charges Schedule for 2017. These

were endorsed at the last Board meeting on Monday 14 November, which also included the Personal Use Items List. Please

note that you are not obliged to use Campion as the supplier. Please read through this document as it gives you a very good

idea of possible maximum charges and contributions that need to be made . We appreciate your support.

Class Parties

I have had a request to let parents know when the class parties will be held. At our communication meeting this morning the

staff opted for Tuesday 13 December. The staff or class coordinators will let you know of the finer details.

As a final note, I wanted to let you know that I was away all last week for personal reasons and was sick for the first two days

of this week. I have endeavoured to reply to parents emails during my time away but if I haven’t yet, I will do so soon. Thank

you for your understanding.

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART JUMP OFF DAY Last Wednesday 23 November, we held a ‘Jump Off’ day at our school to

celebrate and culminate the Heart Foundation Jump Rope for Heart program.

The event was hugely successful and students thoroughly enjoyed the occasion.

The school raised $2852 in total, which will go towards saving countless lives.

As a school, we had the 5th highest amount of students fundraising online in WA.

Thank you once again to all students who took part in fundraising for this very

special cause. Your effort is greatly appreciated.

2016 DECEMBER AUSSIE OF THE MONTH — Banjo (Room 13)

Poynter Primary School’s Aussie of the month is a highly prestigious and honourable award

bestowed on its finest students. It is with pride I give this award to a very deserving young man.

This young man comes in to class every day with a super smile and terrific attitude. He is a kind,

caring and gentle young man who is highly respected by his peers. Often, at the conclusion of

the day when the class have all left, this particular student will go out of his way to come up and

thank me for a wonderful day. He is a genuine, sincere young man who is a proud Australian. On

the sporting field he is a natural leader, often giving advice and confidence to his fellow team

members. He is a true gentleman of the class. It gives me great pleasure to announce Room 13’s

Aussie of the Month to Banjo.

2016 DECEMBER AUSSIE OF THE MONTH — Aiki (Room 9)

The Aussie of the Month award recognises many of the values we share as Australians; a sense

of fair play, generosity of spirit, persistence, resilience, commitment to community participation

and personal endeavour. This awardee naturally displays all attributes of the Poynter Way and

has had an exceptional final year of primary school. They have incredible enthusiasm for all

aspects of their school life, continually displaying kindness, enthusiasm, cooperation and a

positive ‘have-a-go’ attitude to tasks in all learning areas. This person fully embraces a mindset

of community and team togetherness and offers encouragement and advice freely, without

the expectation of reward. This young leader has increased in resilience and responsibility

throughout the year, acting with greater confidence and during social activities. This person has exceptionally good

friendship-making skills and always appears to see the good in everyone. They are humble and receive advice

willingly, keen to embrace a positive change. Having a mature approach to all instructions and expectations, they are

somebody all students can trust and look up to. It gives me great pleasure to announce Room 9’s Aussie of the

Month is Aiki.

There is also a lot more than just labels on these sites, so you may want to check

them out now for some different Christmas present ideas too.

The last P&C Meeting for 2016 is tonight - 7pm in the staff room. It will be quite a brief meeting followed by a drink and some nibbles. We would love you to come and join us.

Have a great fortnight and stay safe.

At the next market we will have lots of stocking filler gifts. Get into the Christmas

spirit at the P&C stall and purchase one of our lovely Christmas tree badges and

find the little felt fairies living in the Christmas trees. There will also be Minion

and Pony bag charms and the very popular handmade Lego mats. You can also

pick up something delicious to eat from the huge selection of baked goods, sausage sizzle, bacon and egg

burgers and fruit slushies.

Chantelle Collins

Hello from the Market and hello December!

It's that wonderful time of year again when stone fruit is in season. Stop by Valley View Orchard and see what they have

picked off the trees and ask about what's coming soon.

Solar Fruit, Boy & Bee Honey and Adventure Snacks will be joining us

on Saturday.

Kulin Kluckers Free Range eggs have had a great start and are back

again with us. These chickens have no boundaries and are as free

range as they get.

We are also trying a new food stall called Curring Out Loud. They will be

serving Malay curries with lattice roti. Something new for us to try.

of extra stalls, bouncy castles, face painting Santa and more.

That’s all for now and see you at the Market.

up the class room.

Yours sincerely

Joshua Beach

JETT BLACK

Dear Santa

I wish to apply for a job as an elf. I am very fit and I do

a hundred push ups and chin ups a night so I can run

super-fast and deliver mail. I wrap presents in 30 se-

conds and do perfect bows and every side is a different

Owen Karakyriakos

Dear Santa

I wish to apply for the job as an elf. I am an awesome mechanic, because I once built a motor bike out of a rusty old run-

down car. I wrap a present like a boss, I always wrap a present very neat and whenever I wrap a present I always put a

bow on the top. I am also very fit so I would be able to run when I deliver a present. I could also run and deliver some news

to the other elves, because I once ran 100 meters in 8.13 seconds. I am also very small so I could be able to fit through

tiny gaps when the door or window has a small gap because I once fit through a hole in a cave. I am also not afraid of the

dark. I once went in a cave at 3 am to find a lost toy for a kid named jack. I can also read very quickly so I could help you to

see what some kids want because once I read a 250 page book in a 2 hours and went on to do a test and got 100 %.

I am very organized, once my teacher needed us to bring in a project due by Monday. I was the only person to bring it in on

time. I can also cook really well back at home I make a Pavlova to perfection as well as some giant meringues for a very

famous restaurant the white made black. I can also am very good in cold temperatures because I once climbed to the top

of Mount Everest. I am also very good at my math so I could be able to cut the toys in their shape to perfection.

I can also climb very well I once climbed up on a rock face to get to a friend’s house that was on the very top.

I can also carry things really well I once carried 15 boxes in one go so I could help you deliver presents to all the kids.

I am also very confident when I do thing because once I believed in myself to beat the world record of furthest throw for a

teenager.

Yours sincerely

From Darcy Stoitis

Dear Santa,

I wish to apply for the job as an elf. I wrap the presents every

year. I have 10 people in my family and each person 5 gifts. I put

pretty bows on the presents.

I set up the Christmas tree every year and hang the bobbles. I

am organised because I do things earlier than I am supposed to.

I am a great chef and my kids come in the kitchen to see what I

am cooking before I answer they smell it and say it smells deli-

cious can I have a test so I let them and they say 10 out of 10. I

won master chef. I won the Olympics for the fastest runner in

the world. When I was a little kid they always called me smart

nerd in maths because I always got A+ in school.

I’m not afraid of the dark because I go out for a walk every day

at 8 o’clock at night. I work outside every day for 6 hours 1 hour

continuously I do push ups 1 hour of boxing 1 hour sit ups 1
