The Author and the Series• Sherwood Smith was born in 1951, and started writing

stories when she was eight.• She created the world where this story is set, and nearly

all her books are set in it.• This series consists of four books: Inda, The Fox, King’s

Shield and Treason’s Shore.

The Story• The story starts with Inda going to the King’s Academy, where he makes friends with Sponge, the King’s second son.• Sponge is constantly being bullied by his older brother, the Heir. • This is because the King’s brother and right-hand man wants to rule through the Heir, and he has turned him against Sponge. The King’s brother views Sponge as a threat.

The Story•While Inda is travelling with his father and his friends, they are attacked by bandits. Inda comes up with a way for them to escape. •When the King’s brother finds out about Inda’s master plan, he starts viewing Inda as a threat.•During a training game, Cama, a friend of Inda’s is killed. Although it is the Heir’s fault, the King’s brother manages to put the blame on Inda, and he is sentenced to be whipped before the Academy. However, he refuses.

The Story• Inda’s father strikes a deal with the King to send Inda into exile to save his life, since if he refuses the punishment, Inda will be disinherited and might even be killed.• Inda is sent to sea, and soon he starts making a living by fighting pirates. Meanwhile, in his homeland, Sponge hasn’t lost hope of finding his friend. But who will reach Inda first, his friend Sponge, or a band of notorious pirates?
