What is New #2?
• Released SATA-IO Certified Logo Program• Enhances Interoperability program
– Devices must pass SATA-IO interoperability testing
• Customers can quickly identify SATA Certified products– Certified Devices have passed extensive interoperability testing for SATA
specification compliance
• Getting a Certified Logo for your Product– Pass test at SATA-IO Plugfests/Interoperability Workshops– Pass test at one of the four test labs around the world
See www.SATA-IO.org for more information

2009 Initiative #1
• Power over eSATA initiative in progress• Use external drives without a separate power cable• Fewer cables for high-performance external
storage• Provides new level of convenience• Backward compatible with existing eSATA products• Targeted completion: 1H 2009
What was New in Testing • eSATA
• Host, Device, (cable/connector assemblies after IW#4)
• Port Multiplier • Host and Device
eSATA (external SATA): External 2 meter SATA connection using shielded cables and connectors

Upcoming Events• 2 events on Sept. 29-Oct. 3 in Milpitas, CA:
• Interoperability Workshop #6• Member companies with production-ready products may
participate to verify product interoperability and adherence to specification requirements per the definition of SATA-IO Interoperability Test documents. Products that pass testing are placed on Integrators List.
• Plugfest #11• Member companies may validate new designs implementing
SATA protocol/features and demonstrate interoperability.

Back-Up Slides
SATA Product FeaturesSATA Speeds External SATA Cables/Connection Additional Capabilities
SATA 1.5Gb/s: Initial interface speed for 150MB/s data
transfer rate
eSATA: External 2 meter SATA connection using
shielded cables and connectors
SATA ClickConnect: Connectors designed to
securely mate internal device and host side
SATA Port Multiplier: Hardware multiplexer, one to many (up to 15) using 4
bit address field
SATA 3Gb/s: Enhanced interface speed for 300MB/s data transfer rate, backward
compatible
xSATA: External 8 meter SATA connection using
shielded cables and connectors
SATA Hot Plug: The ability to connect and disconnect
devices without prior notification
SATA Port Selector: Hardware multiplexer, many (up to 15) to one, for redundant host
connect, using a sideband signal
Native Command Queuing SATA: Reordering of commands for efficient data
transfer
Staggered Spin-up: Storage subsystem sequences drive spin-up to avoid power
surges
Interface Power Management: Intelligent power management system controlled by
the hardware
Asynchronous notification: Device notifies the host that it requires attention,
eliminates polling
Spread Spectrum Clocking: Spreads radiated emissions over a range of
frequencies to lower overall emissions for agency testing
eSATA (external SATA): External 2 meter SATA connection using shielded cables and connectors
ILIntegrators List• A database on the SATA-IO Web site with information about
components that have passed Serial ATA Interoperability testing.• The Integrators List:
• Preserves the integrity of the SATA specification implementation• Allows member companies to demonstrate a desire to support industry
compatibility• Feature support capabilities available for Interop testing:
•• Note: New tests are defined for eSATA and PM devicesNote: New tests are defined for eSATA and PM devices

BBSATA-IO Building Blocks List• SATA-IO recently unveiled a new resource for members:
the Building Blocks List• Provides SATA-IO members with an avenue to broaden their market
reach of the SATA-enabled components that are necessary to build higher-level SATA solutions.
• Relies on the same tests as those used to qualify Integrators List products; however, certification under the Building Block program requires completion of only one test area whereas Integrators List products must pass the full set of prescribed tests.• Must pass version 1.2 or greater to get on BB list• The BB list is found on the members only website, and the BB Dot is in
the SATA everywhere database• Products that qualify to be included in the Building Blocks List include:
• Customer reference boards• IP products• Other SATA components that have successfully concluded
Interoperability Tests applicable to their product category
