Batch Pre-Processing in ENVI
• Orthorectification - necessary if
purchasing Primary product
• Radiometric Calibration – apply
sensor gain and offset values to
imagery
• Atmospheric Correction – remove
effects of atmosphere on
reflectance values
• Pan Sharpening
• Image-to-Image Registration
• Seamless Mosaicking
Batch Processing of Spectral Indices
• Spectral Indices are combinations
of surface reflectance at two or
more wavelengths that indicate
the relative abundance of features
of interest
• Vegetation indices are the most
popular, but other indices are
available for burned areas, built-
up features, water, geology, etc…
• ENVI can automatically compute
up to 64 indices, depending on
the spectral resolution of the
imagery
• Desktop or Cloud environments

Monitoring Crop Health Throughout Growing Season
Optimized Soil Vegetation Index (OSAVI) Through Time
No Veg Moderate Veg High Veg
Time Series Analysis - Digging in on OSAVI • Rapid revisit times of Airbus DS
satellites enable crop monitoring
for individual fields throughout a
growing season
• Spectral indices (in this example
OSAVI) can be used to increase
granularity of vegetation health
and determine vegetation health
for any given location throughout
a growth cycle
• Avoid crop loss by identifying
areas at risk of pests or in need of
additional management

Analysis Complete, Now What?
Export to Geospatial PDF
• Export analysis results directly to
ArcMap
• Mark up analysis results with
annotation tools in ENVI
• Chip View to File, PowerPoint,
Geospatial PDF, or Google Earth
Case Study – Central Valley, California
• Use of high resolution imagery (Pléiades) to monitor crop growth across seasons
• Inclusion of ancillary data to provide geographic context
• Determine what crops are growing in individual fields
• Quantify difference in crop health from one season to the next

Coming Soon to ENVI
• Photogrammetry Module
will allow users to
generate a point cloud
from stereo pair and tri-
stereo imagery
• Support for SPOT and
Pléiades sensors
• Point cloud can be further
processed in ENVI LiDAR
to generate highly
accurate DEMs and DSMs
2014 U.S. Crop Season Project Overview
Contract: Airbus DS to deliver Moderate Resolution Satellite Imagery using
Deimos-1 & UK-DMC2 for the United States (lower 48) during the 2014 Crop
Season.
Objective: Provide client with 1 complete coverage of the U.S. every 2 weeks
over the 2014 crop season.
Delivery:
• A total of 1,621 images were acquired over the entire crop season
o Delivered cloud-free data over 95% of crop area per month
o Averaged >91% cloud-free data over the whole crop season
• Average deliver time over the whole project was less than 41 hours
Deimos-1 & UK-DMCii Satellite Overview
The Solution: Deimos-1 & DMC2 wide
swath (640km) combined with data
download at each orbit assures a high
revisit frequency for any given point on
Earth.
• Both satellites offer 22m resolution
with 3-Bands (Red, Green, NIR)
which align closely to Bands 2, 3,
and 4 on Landsat 7
• Complete coverage of the lower 48
states every 2 weeks
22m Collection Results: Bi-monthly Coverage (August)
Campaign #2: May 1-15
Aug 1-15 2014
Aug 16-31 2014
Collection Results Overview: Coverage Frequency
• 79% of the region was imaged between 16 and 27 times
• Some zones (around Texas) were imaged an excess of 35 times
