Vision Statement

Incarnation Parish is a Roman Catholic community centered around the Lord Jesus, a living sign of hope to all that the Word made flesh dwells among us. His presence and love is encountered in all areas of our life together, especially in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, in Sacred Scripture and in the Sacraments. We seek to make the Lord's presence and love known through service and edu-cation, through evangelization and through con-tinual conversion and renewal in Him. We entrust our life together and our sharing in the mission of Christ to the protection and intercession of Mary, Mother of the Lord and our Mother.

Holy Day of Obligation. The So-lemnity of the Ascension of the Lord will be celebrated Thursday, May 10. Mass at Incarnation will be Wednesday Evening at 7:30PM and on the Holy Day at 8:30AM and 10:30AM. Mass is also of-fered frequently at churches in the city. Please mark your calendars now.

Pentecost Vigil & Multi Cultural Supper. A multi-cultural Vigil of Pentecost will be celebrated at 5PM on Sat, May 19. It will be enhanced by the presence of all our choirs. Following Mass there will be a Cultural Supper in Msgr. Griffin Hall. We invite you to prepare your favor-ite dish to share showcasing your ethnic tradition. Please coordinate what you’ll bring with Nalda (646-320-9355). The will also be live entertainment as we celebrate the many traditions that are found here at Incarnation. Juliana (h 718-479-1476 or c 718-930-9782) will coordinate the entertainment. Please join us as we recall as a Parish Fami-ly the descent of the Holy Spirit on Mary and the Apostles.

From the Pastor’s Pen

Mass Intentions The Mass Book for next year – January 1 through December 31, 2019 opened at the end of April. In light of

that I would like to talk a little about the ancient and noble practice of Mass Intentions. One of the greatest acts of charity is to pray for the living and the dead, and the greatest and most powerful

prayer we have is the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, since the fruits of the Mass are the very fruits of Jesus’ redemption. For this reason, all are encouraged to actively participate at Mass, especially on Sunday. But we can also have Mass offered for loved ones who have died, or even for the living who have some need or special intention. The word “Eucharist” means “thanksgiving” and we can offer Mass in thanksgiving to God after the reception of a specific grace or favor. This is an ancient Christian practice, and all are encouraged to take it up. Our Catholic faith is centered on Mass. For it is at the Holy Eucharist where we come together for healing, forgiveness, and renewal in Christ.

The opportunity to pray in a special way for the repose of the soul of a loved one or other prayerful intention is made available each day with announced Mass offerings. You may choose to commemorate a death anniversary, wedding anniversary, birthday remembrance or simply pray in thanksgiving. Each offering is $15.00. Please come to the Parish Office to make special Mass offerings for your loved ones. If there is a “down side” to Mass Intentions here at Incarnation, it is that they get filled so quickly. As opposed to other parishes which might have “open” intentions, the intentions here at Incarnation fill rather quickly. In fact there are only a handful of intentions available for this calendar year. I feel bad when individuals come to the office looking for an available Mass Intention and the date they would like is already taken. So please come out in advance when looking for those birthdays and anniversaries. You already know the date! Why wait? Finally, Mass is offered for your intentions every weekend here. Me too in fact, as Mass is offered each weekend for you and I, the People of the Parish. Happy Easter and God Bless! The Lord is Risen. It is true! He has appeared to Simon!

PRAYERS FOR VOCATIONS TO THE PRIESTHOOD.

Over the next ten months you will be in-vited to pray at home for more priests. We

invite individual parishioners & families to sign up to re-ceive a beautiful Good Shepherd statue into their home for one or two weeks and to pray for priestly vocations. A prayer kit & activity sheets about vocations will be also given to help you through your prayer week. At the end of the week, on Saturdays, we ask you to return the Good Shepherd Statue to the Parish Office so that it may be hand-ed over to another parishioner and/or family on Sunday. You may keep the activity sheets for further prayer and re-flection. Please consider signing up for our Prayer Cam-paign for Priestly Vocations. Simply fill in the form below and return it to the Parish Office or in the collection as soon as possible. Father Chris, Father O’Connor or a member of the Vocations Committee, will contact you soon afterwards about all the details.

Haitian Community Dinner Dance will be held Saturday, May 26 beginning at 8PM. Mark your calendars now so you wont miss out. Tickets are only $35. Special Enter-tainment for Haitian Mothers’ Day Celebration. Contact Bernadette for tickets and details: 718-464-2167.

Being Good Neighbors! When coming to Incarnation please don’t park in, or, obstruct anyone’s driveway. Also, remember to exit the parish grounds quietly after evening functions. It’s the considerate and Christian thing to do! It’s the neighborly thing to do!

A WARM WELCOME. If you are new to our parish please feel free to introduce yourself to the pastor or one of the deacons after Mass today. We kindly invite you to come to the Parish Office and register as a member of In-carnation. Registration is important for all parishioners because then we are able to issue sponsor letters for Bap-tism, Confirmation and Matrimony. We also can give end of the year statements of your contributions to the church through regular use of the envelopes. We can also help you with letters of recommendation for employment, schools, etc. Your registration will also help us with our parish census in knowing the number of Catho-lics in the Hollis/Queens Village area. Thank you and welcome.

LIVING LIGHTS. Securing an Annual Living Light Votive Candle to Honor a Loved One, Remember a Special Intention, or Mark a Milestone is a con-tinual and wonderful way to celebrate sentiments and offer intercessions of remembrance, hope and gratitude. Two wall mounted electric candle stands now hang in our church on either side of

the newly restored and expanded Saints’ Shrine. These unique and inviting candles are made of real wax with electrified illumination to insure your Living Light burns brightly throughout the year. A plaque displaying the name of your loved one, your intention, or your milestone will be mounted before your Living Light Votive Candle. Plaques will remain for the year you have secured your Living Light and may be renewed or rededicated for addi-tional 12 month periods. In addition to its rightful place before your Living Light in the Saints’ Shrine, your Loved One, Special Intention, or Milestone will also be included in the Living Light Section of the Parish Website. The Shepherd Speaks

Therefore, this Word of God calls us to love one another, even if we do not always under-stand each other, and do not always get along... it is then that Christian love is seen. A love which manifests even if there are differences of opin-ion or character. Love is greater than these differences! This is the love that Jesus taught us. It is a new love be-

cause Jesus and his Spirit renewed it. It is a redeeming love, free from selfishness. A love which gives our hearts joy, as Jesus himself said: “These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full” (Jn 15:11). -Angelus 10V15

Are and What We Are About ~ We invite every-one who would like to explore our Catholic Faith more deeply to come and reflect on the Creed throughout this coming year. The last of the five sessions— “The Third Person of the Blessed Trinity: “I believe in the Holy Spirit” - will take place Tuesday, May 22 - all Tues at 7:30. All are invited to come out and explore the Feast of Faith.

Easter Plants. For those who wish to take home an Easter Lilly they are outside the sac-risty on the school side of the building. Bulbs replanted outside now should bloom in Au-gust around the feast of the Assumption.

May Crowning—May 13. Plan to join our First Commun-ion Class at the 10:30 Mass on Mothers’ Day as we crown the three main images of Our Lady in the church and on the parish grounds: A fitting tribute for Mother Jesus gave us from the Cross.

Parish

Registration ~ We in-vite anyone who attends our Masses to register in our parish. This will give you the opportunity to be ac-quainted with the various events, ministers and activities of our parish and enable us to serve you better with your needs.

First Communion. First Communion is this Saturday May 12 at the 11AM Liturgy. Prac-tice for Holy Communion is this Wednesday, May 9. Both sessions begin at 4PM in the church.

INCARNATION GOLF SHIRTS are available in the Parish Office and make for a wonderful gift. Each is burgundy and available in all sizes. It has an image of Mary at the Annunciation when she con-ceived by the Spirit and with the words of John’s Gospel recalling the Incarnation. The shirts are $12. Stop by & pick one up.

Box Tops for Education. Everyone is asked to gather BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION from their

favorite brand food labels. There are two boxes in the vestibule of the church to place your box tops and this will provide added revenue to our school. Thank You!

Marian Evening—May 31: Feast of the Visitation of Mary. Come out Thursday, May 31 at 7:30PM to celebrate the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The evening service will be filled with Scripture, songs, prayers and grateful sentiments as we recall the generosity of the young Virgin in journeying to assist her older cousin Eliza-beth. Recognize Mary as the “Theotokos,” the “God-Bearer” as did John the Baptist who leapt in his mother’s womb. Bring the whole family as we show our affection to Our Blessed Mother.
