The world’s best Rugby Sevens players descend on the Harbour City this weekend
for the inaugural HSBC Sydney Sevens and FOX SPORTS will be the only place to
watch EXCLUSIVELY LIVE, in HD and with no ad breaks during play across both
Saturday and Sunday.
A sold out Allianz Stadium in Sydney will host the fourth and only Australian leg of
the HSBC Sevens World Series where the best 16 countries will compete in the
seven-a-side two day competition.
Led by Captain Ed Jenkins, a buoyant Australia, on the back of a Plate Final victory
in Wellington, will be out to impress on home soil as they start to shape their team
for the Rio Olympics later this year.
Bolstered by recent star signings including Henry Speight – who is set to make his
Sevens debut this weekend – the seventh-placed Aussies will face Portugal and
Canada in their pool matches before a showdown with New Zealand, and Sonny Bill
Williams, highlights the opening day’s action at 9.03pm.
Series leaders, South Africa, lead Pool B’s line up of Kenya, Scotland and Russia
while Pool C pits 2015 champions Fiji against Argentina, Samoa and France with
England, United States, Japan and Wales making up the final group, Pool D.
Sunday marks finals day with the top two teams from each pool progressing to the
playoffs, culminating at 7.04pm when the two best performing teams face off for
Grand Final glory.
Nick McArdle will team with Commonwealth Games Silver medallist and Wallabies
scrumhalf Nick Phipps to host the two-day action with former Wallaby Stephen
Hoiles reporting from in and around the stadium.
FOX SPORTS Rugby pundits Greg Clark and Sean Maloney will join former
Wallabies Greg Martin and Rod Kafer along with New Zealand Sevens legend
Karl Te Nana, Tongan international Willie Lose and New Zealand commentator,
Scotty Stevenson to guide viewers through the weekend’s action.
FOX SPORTS will also showcase LIVE the Australian women’s three-match Sevens
series against Ireland across the weekend. The series leading ‘Pearls’ and Rio

Olympic medal contenders will be in action at 1.55pm on Saturday with their
remaining two matches on Sunday (11.13am and 2.46pm).
