THE PRETTY RECKLESS – JUST TONIGHT

This video had a great influence on some of the ideas I had for the construction of my main task. The video I felt had a very dark supernatural feel which is what I wanted to show throughout my own.

Just like this video has used some of the typical conventions mine has also.

The most common use of a transition is the cut which is used continuously throughout the video Just Tonight. This transition is used throughout my main product. However, unlike this video ours also uses fades, to connote peace to mislead the audience.

The timings of the shots during the real media text typically last no longer than 3 seconds. However, in Juts Tonight there are some last up to 6 seconds which is unlike the typical music video. I decided to break this convention like this band for some of the shots used in my video as it brought tension and suspense.

TRANSITIONS

LENGTH TIME OF SHOTS

BROKEN CONVENTIONSA convention of the genre of video that have broken would be to show the identity of the band or guitar player in this case. This was to show a comparison to the character and the narrative of the video. I also decided to do this as I believe it makes our target audience focus more on the narrative of the video and build up a relation to the lyrics and discover the meaning of them instead of paying more attention to the guys singing the song.

ANCILLARY TASKS In order to determine the typical conventions of posters and digipacs at the start of the year I conducted re-search into the typical conventions of hmv posters.

Black and white house style. Black has connotations of mystery which may be the

Hmv logo placed in the bottom right to indicate where to buy the album.

My inspiration and name of the band centred at in the left hand corner.

Reason for “My” and “hmv” being in the same colour is to connect the audience with the store and therefore with the band as it then feels personal to them.
