Royal Regiment of Fusiliers Museum (Royal Warwickshire)

Tuesday 16th August 2.00pm - 4.00pm

Bring your family and have fun following the clues around St John’s Museum and gardens to get a prize at the end.

Free to take part in the trail (£1.00 donations are welcome). There is no need to book for this event, just drop in. All ages welcome but 8s and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Tuesday 2nd August 11.00am – 4.00pm

Bring a picnic and help us celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the opening of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (Royal Warwickshire) Museum and St John’s Museum. Meet characters who have lived in St John’s, from the Stoughton Family to Victorian artists living in the attic. Meet Field Marshal Montgomery and discover more about the history of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (Royal Warwickshire).

£2.50 per child to take part in the four activities; schoolroom lesson, art lesson with Victorian artist, make a pomander and a Regimental badge.

Two themed workshops in the Wattlewood Room at St John’s Museum in Warwick that stand alone or can be booked together.

����Paper Making and Calligraphy

Tuesday 23rd August 9.30am – 4.00pm

Make your own paper, take a look at illuminated letters and learn how to create your own design using simple calligraphy styles. You will go home with samples of your own paper, bookmarks and calligraphy samples.

Wednesday 24th August 9.30am – 4.00pm

Learn about paper decorating techniques, learn how to make and decorate simple books. Make your own notebook to take home. If you have attended the previous workshop, use some of your creations in your own book.

Workshop places are £22.00 per day. Book any of these sessions with any of the History Detective Agency sessions and the same discounts apply.

Suitable for children aged 6 - 12 years. Please bring a packed lunch, snacks and a drink.

Come and see one of the oldest and most colourful maps in the County Record Office collection and help us build our own giant map. What would you like to build for our map: a house, a cinema or perhaps a space station?

£2.50 per child, under 5s £1.00

No need to book, just drop in. All ages welcome, children aged 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult. In event of bad weather activities will take place indoors.

Bug hunting with Keeper of Natural History, Steven Falk, at Odibourne Allotments, Kenilworth. What might we find: toads, butterflies and bees? Each bug hunt lasts for approximately 1 hour.

From cannonballs and cows to ancient fossils - explore this fascinating exhibition to discover how people have tried to stay healthy!

Open during normal museum opening hours: 10.00am - 5.00pm Tuesdays - Saturdays and Bank Holiday Mondays (closed all other Mondays). 11.30pm - 5.00pm Sundays (April - September only).

����Family Fossil Hunt Friday 19th August 10.00am – 4.00pm. Enjoy a day fossil hunting at Cross Hands Quarry with Keeper of Geology, Jon Radley, and explore our Jurassic past. You can keep anything you find! The price includes travel to and from the quarry site. Meet and collect from the Activity Centre at St John’s Museum, Warwick. Please bring a packed lunch.

Tickets £17.50 per person or group of three £45. Groups of three must include at least one adult.

Colds and Cures People throughout history have been making their own cures from plants. Can you identify some of the plants used in the past? Make a flower pot and plant some seeds to grow your own.

Egyptian Afterlife What did the Ancient Egyptians believe happened to them after death? Find this out and more with the opportunity to see some Ancient Egyptian shabti and make a mummy case.

X Marks the Spot In the past explorers would go out exploring without maps and draw them as they discovered new places. See some copies of old maps and make a treasure map and a telescope to help your own explorations.

An Apple a Day… In the past people did all sorts of things to stop themselves getting ill. Come and find out if they worked and why people thought they did. Make your own protective amulet to wear home.

Places at the Agency are £22.00 a day. Book three or more sessions and receive a 20% discount on the overall cost per child. Discount of 20% for siblings on individual sessions.
