As we turn from Summer to Fall, and Rosh Hashanah is upon us, I am so thankful for the wonderful people
had as a group. While there are many people who I wish to thank, I only have space to mention a few who have been especially involved.
Thank you to Saralee Mogilner for conducting all of the BOND board meetings in my absence. She did a great job. Thank you, also, to Saralee Mogilner and Marlene Goldberg for another outstanding job with
people than ever before. Adventures in Learning is where
interesting and fun activities and invite your friends and relatives to join us.
A big Thank You to Holly Wartnick for closing out the previous website and setting up BOND’s updated website and monitoring it. Our new website is www.bondtc.org. Please visit it and give us feedback.
Nettie Nabedrick and her Fabulous Committee did a marvelous job organizing the Book Author Event this year. It was very successful. We had the largest turnout we have ever had both for the evening and daytime programs. Also, thank you to Maraline Slovut, Chair of the AdBook Committee. (copy enclosed). Judy Sherman chaired the Scholarship Committee for many years and we all appreciate her so much. Lenore Miller has agreed to be the new Chair. All members can join this committee. If interested in participating, contact Lenore at 952.545.8800.
For ten years Gerry Feldman handled our donations to BOND’s Scholarship Fund. She did an

Steve Hunegs Executive Director, Jewish Community Relations Council
Steve Hunegs was named Executive Director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas (JCRC) in November of 2006. In 2015, Hunegs received the “International Citizen of the Year” award from the International Leadership Institute of Minneapolis. At the invitation of Adjutant General Richard Nash, Hunegs is a member of the Strategic Advisory Task Force for the Minnesota National Guard.
Before becoming JCRC’s Executive Director, Hunegs was an attorney with Hunegs, Stone, LeNeave, Kvas & Thornton, P.A. since 1996 where he litigated personal injury, wrongful death and Federal Employers Liability Act cases. Before that he was with the Minnesota Office of the Attorney General in the Consumer Division where he litigated consumer protection cases.
Hunegs received his B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his law degree from the University of Minnesota.
Our 2018 Book Author Event was a huge success, thanks to our members, friends, guests, and sponsors.
Our tables were full, our speakers were terrific, and the food was good. That makes for a fantastic combination. Two hundred and fifty attended both events. The final figures are not in but we raised over $13,500, a generous contribution for scholarships. The AdBook is fantastic and we hope you will support our advertisers. Thank you to the donors that were not able to attend and those who extended their contribution. We really appreciate all you do. We were sorry for those who could not attend and hope to see you next year. Everyone should be well.
Thank you to the committee, that works all year on this event, to be sure it “runs” well! It certainly did. It has been my pleasure to serve as chairperson for the past 6 years. Thank you all for your continuous support. It was great working with you.

Hennepin County Art TourBOND members toured the Hennepin Clinic and Specialty Center in Downtown Minneapolis in August. Participants saw the 15-panel glass artwork that was installed at the entrance of the new clinic which can be seen in the attached photo. The Center opened in March and includes more than 600 pieces of art providing patients, families, visitors and staff with an environment that can gently encourage healing and wellness.
The Goldstein Museum TourBOND members and guests visited the Goldstein Museum of Design to enjoy an exhibition that celebrated the working woman of the 20th Century with wardrobes of three women with prominent careers in the Twin Cities. By exploring the motivations behind how these women dressed, we could reflect on our own wardrobes and why we love the garments we wear.Another great “learning adventure!”

Scholarships - JFS St Paul By Rhoda Redleaf
Thank you to all supporters of our recent fundraising events. As you know, our funds are used to support Scholarships for local residents in conjunction with both twin city Jewish Family Service agencies. Since our inception, we have supported on average 15-18 or more such scholarships annually. We recently received this note from JFS of St. Paul and wanted to share it with all our members. St. Paul JFS is grateful for our continued relationship with BOND. Because of your generosity, we help individuals complete relevant training that helps them earn more and become self-sufficient. Here are a few examples of lives that are changed because of the funds you provide for their training.
Tamika - age 49 after an illness. Tamika decided a career change - boiler’s license. Leonardo came to the U.S. as a refugee from Central America. Because he is fluent in four languages, he is interested in the field of medical interpreting. There is a certification program he found to allow him to work in Minnesota.
Scholarship Committee meets with JFCS to make awardsBy Judy Sherman
On July 11 the Scholarship Committee met with Todd Sandler to choose the recipients of money awarded to students at colleges and other post-high school institutions. Five students were chosen by Todd and approved by about a dozen BOND members to receive a grand total of $12,000. Recipients varied in age from 18 to 59 and are attending attended a variety of colleges and professional schools.
Fundraising 2018 A Great YearBy Maraline Slovut, VP Fundraising
The fundraising group is a very diverse group but we all share a common goal. Having fundraising events and other activities to provide money for education for training or re-training so people can get jobs to provide income for themselves and their families. Most important they gain self-worth and respect for themselves.
Thank you to my team of Eva Broude, Suzanne Prass and Millie Segal for their hard work on the April fundraiser, “It’s Not All Black and White”. We raised over $1,000 for scholarships. Thank you to the Book Author committee for a very successful fundraiser. The AdBook, this year, 2018, raised $3,667 after expenses for scholarships. To the AdBook team: Carole Epstein, Nancy Garber, Renee Gainsley, Linda Gilfix, Bev London, and Judy Serrell, thank you so much. Also, thank you to Carolyn Kaufmann for so many sales of the Dining Club Cards, Nancy Garber for the silver sales, and many other BOND members for a variety of small group activities that raised funds for scholarships. To all our members and guests attending scholarship events and activities, Thank You.
