The TGA recently had it’s yearly elections and three new board members
were elected. Those members are Marty Tanner, David Dickson and Ray-
mond Campana. If you see or talk to any of them please welcome them
to the board and let them know if anything is on your mind regarding the
TGA.
Gulf Greyhound Park (GGP) held its first stake race of the year in February.
The winning kennel in the King & Queen Stake Race was D.Q. Williams
Kennel, with Seldom Told winning the championship and that race was a
5/16th race. GGP will hold another stake race, the 2015 Spring Classic
Stake Race, on May 2, 2015, with that one being a 3/8’s race. There will be
two qualifying heats with the top 4 dogs out of each race going to the fi-
nals. If anyone is in the area of Gulf Greyhound Park that Saturday, stop in,
watch and cheer on the winner.
As many of you know, the Texas Legislature is in session now. Several
gaming bills have been filed, but none have moved out of committee at
this time. Some legislation which has moved is of interest to TGA mem-
bers. There are two Senate bills which will regulate 8-liner operations in Ft.
Bend and Galveston County. This legislation will give those counties the
authority to regulate all aspects of 8-liner operators in each county and is
similar to legislation Harris County passed last session. That legislation has
led to many of the 8-liner operators leaving Harris County and going to
neighboring counties. This is the reason those two counties have pursued
the legislation, to be able to regulate the operators and hopefully have
the same result of moving them out of the county as Harris county did.
This should benefit the handle at Gulf Greyhound if passed as those peo-
ple going to those operations will hopefully go back to the racetrack and
help increase the handle there by making pari-mutuel wagers.
There is also a bill by Rep. John Kuempel which will regulate 8-liner opera-
tors over the entire state. The bill is HB 1830 and was voted out of com-
mittee on Wednesday the 20th of April. It will hopefully be on the floor of
the house in a week or so.

Atascocita Act (01/03/15)
There is a return visitor to the Greyhound of the Week spotlight as Atascocita
Act from Libby Racing Kennels continues to dazzle and amaze many of the on-
lookers with his come from behind ability to earn the weekly honors for the sec-
ond time in his young career. Competing for owner Atascocita Racing and train-
er Troy Tinney, the 76-pound fawn son of Atascocita Bowl – Atascocita Avery
has put together another two race winning streak to improve his career record
to 15/9-2-1-2.
Atascocita Clap (01/10/15)
The youth movement continues at Gulf Greyhound Park as owner Atascocita Racing and
Libby Racing Kennels provide the Greyhound of the Week for the second week in a
row. Fitting the mold of early box speed from the 550-yard starting box which has proven
to be very successful throughout the history of racing on the Texas Gulf Coast, Atascocita
Clap has quickly climbed up the grade ladder with a career record of 12/7-0-0-2 including a
victory in his top grade AA debut.
Need My Moneynow (01/17/15)
The surroundings may have changed but the winning trend has remained the same for LD Fly
Red Tail earning the Greyhound of the Week honors for the second time in just over a
month. When we last visited the 74-pound red son of Kelsos Lorenzo – Fly Two Forks born on
October 22, 2011, LD Fly Red Tail had just made his final start for Sambade Racing, LLC who de-
parted Gulf Greyhound Park at the conclusion of 2014. With a new year came new scenery as LD

February 2015 Greyhound of the Week (to view their win or read the full story, visit our Website or Facebook page)
Much like the running style of this week’s recipient of the Greyhound of
the Week honors, Crabby from Libby Racing Kennels has appeared out of
nowhere with a recent run of success to shine brightly in the weekly spot-
light. The 59-pound black daughter of Kelsos Fusileer – Stand Tall Cat is
still a youngster born on January 8, 2013 but has blossomed into one of
the top 550-yard greyhounds at Gulf Greyhound Park.
Need My Moneynow (02/21/15)
The hottest athlete on the Texas Gulf Coast and possibly across the entire
country arrives in the form of the 68-pound white/black son of No More Lov-
ing – Need a Date born on July 1, 2012, Need My Moneynow from D.Q. Wil-
liams Kennel. Trained by Craig Edwards and owned my Sharon Williams, Need
My Moneynow sits on top of the wins list in 2015 with a record of 9/7-2-0-0
and is currently on a seven race winning streak to shine in the Greyhound of
the Week spotlight once more. Looking back over the last six months since
August 24, 2014, Need My Moneynow has proven to be nearly unbeatable
compiling a record of 26/20-2-0-2.
For the second consecutive week, we feature another superstar at Gulf
Greyhound Park that is currently riding the wave of an extended winning
streak. One month ago, LD Fly Red Tail from Tri-State Kennel shined bright-
ly as the Greyhound of the Week with three consecutive victories. Since
that time, the 74-pound red son of Kelsos Lorenzo – Fly Two Forks experi-
enced an undefeated month of February with three additional winning trips
to increase his string to six wins in a row and become further established as
the dominant athlete over the 330-yard super sprint course competing for
owner Darrell Jimmerson and trainer Leon Giguere.

March 2015 Greyhound of the Week (to view their win or read the full story, visit our Website or Facebook page)
Don’t blink or you might miss the excitement generated over Gulf Greyhound
Park’s 330-yard course. For the second consecutive week, the Greyhound of the
Week spotlight is directed towards the super sprinters with Trey Chic from Libby
Racing Kennels shining brightly with back to back top grade victories for owners
Maria Colon and John Draper.
Sakkara Bowie (03/14/15)
The focus of the Greyhound of the Week spotlight shifts back to the
traditional 550-yard course with a superstar athlete still showing the
skills that will ultimately be forever remembered in the history books
of Gulf Greyhound Park. Competing at the age of 3½ years old for
owner Karen Hyde and trainer/kennel owner David Lingle, Sakkara
Bowie has put together back to back top grade AA winning efforts for
victories number four and five in 2015 and continue building his lega-
cy with a career record of 108/43-25-15-12 which
amounts to an 88% record of earning a purse check.
We shift our focus back to the youth movement as Libby Racing Kennels, train-
er Troy Tinney and owner Phyllis Shuffield have been blessed with another
emerging superstar. With a career record of 14/6-3-2-1, SWG Topaz has com-
pleted his journey throughout the grade ladder including a top grade AA victo-
ry in his last outing to take home the Greyhound of the
Week honors.

Seldom Told
Champion of the
King & Queen Stake
Race
It’s no secret that Seldom Told from D.Q.
Williams Kennel is one of the best grey-
hounds currently at Gulf Greyhound Park.
There are some that would argue that
the 85-pound black son of Trent Lee –
Need a Date is one of the finest athletes
ever to compete on the racing oval in La
Marque, Texas for owner Sharon Williams
and trainer Craig Edwards. That argu-
ment can be saved for another day as the
resume` continues to grow with one ac-
complishment after another. Time and
time again, Seldom Told has been fea-
tured as the Greyhound of the Week but
this week’s honors have more meaning
by winning his first opportunity in stakes
competition and taking the crown in the
King & Queen Stakes Championship
sponsored by the Texas Greyhound As-
sociation and Gulf Greyhound Park.
It was a mere three weeks ago when we
last visited Seldom Told who was in the
midst of a three race winning streak. That
streak would increase to four in a row on
Saturday evening January 31st with one
of the best efforts in his career going
immediately to the front end and demol-
ishing another top grade field by 6½
lengths in a speedy time of
29.71seconds.
Next up was the Kings qualifying round
on Saturday evening February 7th with a
formidable test as Seldom Told would be
battling an excellent field of male ath-
letes including two of the top superstars
on the Texas Gulf Coast, Sakkara Bowie
from Lingle Kennel and Atascocita Kosta
from Libby Racing Kennels. Despite
drawing a difficult #6 post position, the
fans did not shy away from Seldom Told
and his four race winning streak tagging
him as the 3/5 race favorite. As the 550-
yard starting box opened, Seldom Told
had plenty of room to maneuver as #5
KB’s Thermo King from K-Rod Kennel
slashed to the rail and #7 Kells Diablo
from Lingle Kennel broke a step slow but
things tightened up quickly as Seldom
Told was pinched backwards at the first
turn between #4 Atascocita Kosta and #8
JSK Jungle from Cityboy Racing. There
was now some work to
do and for a brief mo-
ment, there were
thoughts as Seldom
Told was still in fifth
place entering the far
turn that this could
possibly be the first
time in his career that
Seldom Told would fail
to earn a purse check.
Fortunately those
thoughts were erased
quickly as Seldom Told worked his way
through traffic to finish in second place
and punch his ticket into the Champion-
ship finals as Sakkara Bowie sprinted
away to the victory.
The post-position draw for the finals on
Valentine’s Day February 14th was un-
kind placing Seldom Told in the black
colors of the #5 racing blanket but still
drew all of the attention from the fans as
the even money favorite. It was a feeling
of “de-ja-vu” in the early going as Sel-
dom Told once again found loads of
room to get started as hot the Queens
qualifying round winner, #6 Ruff Tuff
Babe from K-Rod Kennel exploded to the
lead with #8 Sakkara Bowie in hot pursuit
and another slow beginning from #7
Kells Diablo. Seldom Told took full ad-
vantage of the opening to rush up into a
perfect third place stalking position
around the first turn. Swinging out to the

FBI and abuse
The Federal Bureau of Investigation Uniform Crimes Report historically placed animal
abuse in a catchall “all other offenses” category, along with an array of lesser crimes.
The FBI recently announced that animal abuse will be upgraded to a Group A felony
and reported in a classification of its own, similar to crimes against society like arson,
assault and homicide, reports The BloodHorse.
The FBI’s elevation of animal abuse to a toptier felony should help ensure that con-
victed abusers of racing animals—horse or greyhound—and other animals receive
penalties that fit the crime.
The FBI defines animal cruelty as: “Intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly taking an ac-
tion that mistreats or kills any animal without just cause, such as torturing, torment-
ing, mutilation, maiming, poisoning, or abandonment. Included are instances of duty
to provide care, e.g., shelter, food, water, care if sick or injured; transporting or con-
fiding an animal in a manner likely to cause injury or death; causing an animal to
fight with another; inflicting excessive or repeated unnecessary pain or suffering, e.g.,
using objects to beat or injure an animal. This definition does not include proper
maintenance of animals for show or sport; use of animals for food, lawful hunting,
fishing or trapping.”

Need My Moneynow, from Gulf Greyhound Park, was one of the hot

No. 4. The 68lb male won his last 8 races, and had a record of 8 wins
in 10 starts. The early speedster's only two losses were second place
finishes. Need My Moneynow, born in July 2012, is the son of No

You can take the man out of racing, but you
can never take racing out of the man. That
might well be the motto that describes 80-
year-old retired greyhound veteran Jim Frey,
of Waco, Tx., whose long-ago involvements
in the sport included past terms on the NGA
Board of Directors and a celebrated long run
in the game with his partners in the White

Oh yeah, he also had something to do with a
pretty nice greyhound... named Downing.
Jim's greyhound-racing days are over—but
you can't say the same about his personal
racing endeavors. At the recent Regional
Senior Games in College Station, Jim took Silver Medal in the lOOM and Gold in
the 200M and 400M in his age division. "I'm as slow as I was in high school," he
