1. GO CATCH-AND-RELEASE FISHINGFishing poles and bait are available at the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center, just north of the Harlem Meer, where largemouth bass, pumpkinseed sunfish, bluegill sunfish, carp, and chain pickerel call home. Groups of 5 or more require reservations. Catch-and-release fishing is available April 1 to November 30. Location: Inside the Park at 110th Street between Fifth and Lenox Avenues

2. BROWSE OUR 'LANDFORMS' EXHIBITLearn how natural features in Central Park’s north end played an important role in shaping our city’s — and our nation’s — history. At “Landforms,” our latest exhibit at the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center, you’ll discover more about the Park’s military history and geological foundations. Open daily. Visit centralparknyc.org/landforms for more details. Location: Inside the Park at 110th Street between Fifth and Lenox Avenues

3. TAKE A DIPOperated by NYC Parks, Lasker Pool is open daily during the summer (this year’s season runs from June 29 to September 4). Free swimming classes are available. To secure your belongings, please bring a combination lock. Visit nycgovparks.org for more details. Location: Mid-Park between 106th and 108th Streets

4. BORROW A FIELD DAY KITVisitors can borrow a kit with balls, bats, Frisbees, and jump ropes at the North Meadow Recreation Center. These field day kits are available for rent with photo ID. The Recreation Center also features basketball and handball courts, as well as baseball, softball, and soccer fields. Location: Mid-Park at 97th Street

5. SEE A PUPPET SHOWUnder the direction of the City Parks Foundation, the Swedish Cottage is home to one of the last public marionette companies in the U.S. Through September, see The Princess, The Emperor, and The Duck, a modern retelling of three classic Hans Christian Andersen tales. Visit cityparksfoundation.org for more information and to purchase tickets. Location: West Side at 79th Street

ACTIVITIES FOR KIDSFrom seasonal activities like swimming in the summer to year-round activities like taking a ride on the Carousel — there’s always something for families to do in Central Park. No matter the time of year, you can find something fun and family-friendly within the Park’s 843 acres.

6. RIDE A BOAT Boating on the Lake, Central Park’s second largest water body, is a great way to spend a lazy summer afternoon in the Park. Row boats and gondolas can be rented at the Loeb Boathouse daily from April through October, weather permitting. Visit thecentralparkboathouse.com for more details. Location: East Side of the Park between 74th and 75th Streets

7. RENT A MODEL SAILBOATConservatory Water, the site of the children’s classic Stuart Little, offers popular model sailboat rentals from April through October. These remote-controlled, wind-driven sailboats provide a fun, interactive activity. Visit sailthepark.com for more details. Location: East Side from 72nd to 75th Street

8. GATHER ROUND FOR STORYTIMEEvery summer since 1956, children have spent their Saturdays listening to fairytales around the Hans Christian Andersen statue. Once storytelling is over, stick around to play on the statue, which is one of the most popular climbing sculptures in the Park. Visit hcastorycenter.org for more details. Location: 74th Street near Fifth Avenue west of Conservatory Water

9. RIDE THE CAROUSELCentral Park’s famed Carousel features calliope music and 57 horses. NYC Parks discovered the current vintage carousel abandoned in an old trolley terminal on Coney Island. It is the fourth carousel to stand in the Park since it opened in 1871 and remains one of the largest carousels in the U.S. The Carousel operates on a limited schedule in the winter and daily during the summer, weather permitting. Call 212.439.6900 (ext. 4) for hours, admission fees, and more information. Location: Mid-Park at 65th Street

10. LISTEN TO TUNES AT THE DELACORTE CLOCKThis popular clock near the Zoo rings seasonal chimes and nursery rhymes every half hour. The clock sits atop a three-tiered tower and features a band of animals including monkeys, a penguin, a hippo, and a kangaroo. The animals circle the tower to 44 tunes that change seasonally. Location: Near the Central Park Zoo at 65th Street and Fifth Avenue

11. PLAY BOARD GAMESChess & Checkers House, one of the Park’s five visitor centers, features outdoor chess and checkers tables. Visitors are welcome to borrow chess and checkers pieces from Conservancy staff, or bring their own. A variety of other games, including Scrabble and Jenga, are also available. Location: Mid-Park at 64th Street

12. GET UP CLOSE WITH ANIMALSManaged by the Wildlife Conservation Society, the Central Park Zoo showcases animals from tropical, temperate, and polar zones around the world. At the Tisch Children’s Zoo, children can get up close with potbellied pigs, sheep, goats, and the only cow in Manhattan. Visit centralparkzoo.com for more information. Location: East Side between 63rd and 66th Streets

13. VISIT AN AMUSEMENT PARKVictorian Gardens is a family amusement park with one-of-a-kind handcrafted rides designed to complement the historic architecture of Central Park. Located at Wollman Rink (which serves as an ice skating rink in the winter), Victorian Gardens features 13 rides and three games aimed toward children ages 2 to 12. VISIT OUR FAMED STATUESThere are many popular sculptures throughout the Park for kids. Philanthropist George Delacorte commissioned the Alice in Wonderland statue (East Side at 75th Street) for the children of New York City in 1959. It’s a popular climbing spot, and contains varied textures and hiding spaces. A statue of Balto (East Drive at 67th Street), the famed sled dog who battled tundra conditions in Alaska to help save the state’s children from a deadly diphtheria epidemic, is another kid favorite.

EXPLORE ON YOUR OWNWith our Discovery Kits and Discovery Journals — best for ages 6 through 10 — it’s easy to craft your own in-Park adventure! Discovery Journals include activities to help kids investigate the plants, wildlife, and people in the Park. Discovery Kit backpacks are filled with kid-friendly binoculars, field guides, a hand lens, colored pencils, and sketch paper. Journals and Kits are available at the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center, Belvedere Castle, and Chess & Checkers House.

1. WEST 110TH STREET PLAYGROUNDSet in a small valley surrounded by large trees and rock outcrops, this playground includes a sandbox, slide, spinners, swings, and a water feature. Age groups: Toddler, pre-school, and school-age

2. TARR FAMILY PLAYGROUNDThe Tarr Family Playground is recognized for its large, conical climber with a tunnel and slides. Its water feature has jets that shoot up from the ground. Age groups: Pre-school and school-age

3. RUDIN FAMILY PLAYGROUNDKnown for a large, wisteria-covered trellis, the Rudin Family Playground has game tables for playing chess and checkers or picnicking. Age groups: Pre-school and school-age

4. TARR-COYNE WILD WEST PLAYGROUNDThis western-themed playground features wooden play structures resembling a frontier town. Age groups: Pre-school and school-age

5. SAFARI PLAYGROUNDThis playground features hippopotamus sculptures set in a “river” of blue safety surfacing. A canoe, water-spray feature, and two tree houses further animate this safari-inspired scene. Age groups: Pre-school

6. ABRAHAM AND JOSEPH SPECTOR PLAYGROUNDOne of the largest playgrounds in the Park, this play space features an expansive sand area and open space for running and playing. Age groups: Pre-school and school-age

7. PINETUM PLAYGROUNDThis playground is located within the Arthur Ross Pinetum, a small arboretum that is home to the largest collection of pine trees in the Park. Age groups: Pre-school, school-age, teens, and adults

8. TOLL FAMILY PLAYGROUNDThis playground features playhouses, climbers, swings, tunnels, and slides as well as plenty of open space for free play. Age groups: Toddler and pre-school

9. DIANA ROSS PLAYGROUNDSituated at the base of Summit Rock, the highest elevation in the Park, this space features a large, wooden play structure set in a large area of sand. Age groups: Pre-school and school-age

10. TARR-COYNE TOTS PLAYGROUNDDesigned for the Park’s youngest visitors, this playground features a new sprinkler, sand tables, easy-to-climb land forms, and more. Age groups: Toddler

11. ADVENTURE PLAYGROUNDThis playground lives up to its name with tunnels, maze-like structures, a fortress, and water feature. Age groups: School-age

12. HECKSCHER PLAYGROUNDHeckscher Playground is the oldest and largest playground in the Park. At 1.8 acres, this playground contains a variety of play structures, including swings, slides, and a large maze-like climber and water feature. Age groups: Pre-school and school-age

PLAYGROUNDSWest SideCentral Park is home to 21 playgrounds, each with their own unique design and character. They are open year-round, weather permitting.

13. EAST 110TH STREET PLAYGROUNDThis playground’s innovative design includes four circular play spaces: a water area, wooden play structure, tire swings, and big-kid swings. All play areas are connected by a wooden walkway. Age groups: School-age

14. BERNARD FAMILY PLAYGROUNDSet against the backdrop of the Harlem Meer, the Bernard Family Playground features bucket swings, a sandbox, and play structure complete with a bridge, slides, and climbing poles. This playground will be renovated in 2017. Age groups: Toddler and pre-school

15. ROBERT BENDHEIM PLAYGROUNDA favorite component of this play space is a corkscrew-shaped water feature that allows children to run through mists of spray. Age groups: Pre-school and school-age

16. EAST 96TH STREET PLAYGROUNDOne of Central Park’s largest playgrounds, this space includes two play structures with slides, a tree house, tire and bucket swings, and more. Age groups: Pre-school and school-age

17. ANCIENT PLAYGROUNDJust north of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Ancient Playground’s climbing pyramids, obelisk, and sundial were inspired by the museum’s collection of Egyptian Art. Age groups: Pre-school and school-age

18. RUTH AND ARTHUR SMADBECK — HECKSCHER EAST PLAYGROUNDMore commonly referred to as Three Bears, this playground is known for its large, bronze sculpture entitled Group of Bears. Age groups: Toddler and pre-school

19. JAMES MICHAEL LEVIN PLAYGROUNDIn the middle of this playground sits a water spray fountain featuring characters from the childhood classic, Alice in Wonderland. Age groups: Pre-school and school-age

20. EAST 72ND STREET PLAYGROUNDThis playground has a huge climbing pyramid, several tire swings, and a fortress-like water spray feature making it a perfect place to play on hot, summer days. Age group: School-age

21. BILLY JOHNSON PLAYGROUNDThis playground’s design was inspired by Central Park’s landscapes, which is why you’ll see natural materials, wooden structures, and lots of foliage. Billy Johnson Playground will be renovated in 2017. Age groups: Pre-school and school-age

HARLEM MEER SNACK BARMaoz Vegetarian operates out of this snack bar on the east side, offering healthy salads and falafel sandwiches. Location: East Side at 106th Street

LOEB BOATHOUSEGrab a quick bite at the Boathouse Express Cafe or enjoy a more formal meal at the Lakeside Restaurant, which offers breakfast, lunch, dinner, as well as a full bar and weekend brunch. Location: East Side between 74th and 75th Streets

LE PAIN QUOTIDIEN AT CONSERVATORY WATEROn the east side of the Pond near 73rd Street, Le Pain Quotidien serves breakfast, sandwiches, and drinks. Location: East Side at 74th Street

LE PAIN QUOTIDIEN AT MINERAL SPRINGSJust north of Sheep Meadow, Le Pain Quotidien offers sandwiches, handmade breads, healthy salads, bakery fare, and beverages. Location: West Side, mid-Park at 69th Street

TAVERN ON THE GREENThis restaurant was originally built in 1870 as a sheepfold for the sheep who grazed on nearby Sheep Meadow. It was converted into a restaurant in 1934, and offers lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch. Location: West Side between 66th and 67th Streets

BALLFIELDS CAFEOn the northern edge of Heckscher Ballfields, this small cafe offers salads, sandwiches, burgers, and snacks. Location: Mid-Park, north of Heckscher Ballfields at 65th Street

DANCING CRANE CAFE AT THE CENTRAL PARK ZOOJust south of the Zoo, this cafe features a variety of full meals, snacks, and beverages. Location: Inside the Central Park Wildlife Conservation Center at 64th Street and Fifth Avenue

Hours vary. Concession carts selling snacks and beverages are also scattered around the Park.

Bring a picnic blanket and enjoy the magic of the movies under the stars. For the second year, we’re sharing this tradition with our neighbors at Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem.
