ith the end of 2019 upon us Supon us, it is an opportunity to reflect on the past year and highlight the many

achievements of the Supima® brand. From licensing and business de-velopment to marketing and a robust traceability program, the Supima

organization has been hard at work this year to support our family of growers, manufacturers and brand partners.

2019 saw a ramp-up of both new and existing activities. Greater visibility from the numerous programs throughout the year has lead to increased global awareness in the face of a challenging business climate.

With a program that started with one licensee in Japan in the early 1980’s, Supima now counts over 560 licensees in 47 countries. This record number includes close to 200 retailers, new and established wholesale brands and countless suppliers throughout the supply chain. The growth in the number of companies branding their products as Supima is a testament to the superior extra-long staple cotton grown in the U.S.A and passionate, multi-generational farmers that forged the American Pima cotton industry.

Although sustainability is an elusive term, the Supima organization and our family of growers have always believed in implementing low-impact, environmentally friendly farming practices. In our view, you cannot have true sustainability without transparency. Consequently, Supima has been at the forefront of transparency and traceability for many years. The recent rollout of our verification program with Oritain demonstrates our unwavering commitment to transparency and protecting the integrity of American-grown Supima cotton.

Supima continues to gain ground and increase its presence across multiple product categories. From home fashion to activewear, and everything in-between, brands and retailers across the globe are developing innovative products that use Supima cotton. It is also important to acknowledge growth in new channels of business. This year, through our licensee Standard Textiles, Supima cotton entered the hospitality industry. Many of the best resorts around the world are now pro-viding guests the experience of luxury with Supima cotton.

We are encouraged by the onslaught of inquiries by new businesses

that are looking to use and partner with Supima cotton. American Pima cotton has a heritage and story that is resonating with companies across the supply chain. Not only is our ELS cotton looked at as a key ingredient in product development but it has also become a key point of difference for many brands when convey-ing Supima cotton’s premium characteristics to consumers.

2019 was a banner year for Supima’s mar-keting and public relations efforts. Supima continues to forge relationships with industry magazines like Home Textile Today and Sourcing Journal, garnering valuable editorial coverage. Social media and consumer outreach has shown unprecedented growth, engaging with consum-ers and expanding Supima’s digital footprint.

This year marked the company’s first-ever

Supima Harvest Celebration. Although farm visits have been a regular part of Supima’s educational programs, the Supima Harvest Celebration saw over 50 attendees from 20 brands come together for a two-day event that included round table discussions combined with visiting and interacting with our growers. It was an exceptional two days that gave our brand partners an insider’s perspective on the process, care, and pride that goes into growing the top 1% of the world’s cotton.

Awareness in the global markets also con-tinues to grow. For the second year in a row, Supima has held the Supima Design Lab in Paris, France and has partnered with the Hyères International Festival of Fashion and Photogra-phy. Held at the landmark Hotel de Talleyrand, designers from around the world and winners of

the Hyères Festival presented limited collections that featured fabrics made with Supima cotton. The Design Lab was also an opportunity to present the winner and finalists of Supima’s annual design competition to the international community. Attended by dignitaries, fashion industry executives, and press, the Supima Design Lab was a huge success and received editorial coverage in prominent international media outlets including FashionNetwork and SayWho France.

As 2019 comes to close, Supima looks to a new decade of success. We would like to thank all our partners for their continued com-mitment to the Supima® brand and look for-ward to working together in 2020. We wish you all a happy and healthy holiday season and a prosperous New Year!

From the halls of FIDM and FIT to launching his couture brand Celestino, Sergio Gua-darrama has never shied away from pushing the boundaries of fashion design. It was 11

years ago that Guadarrama wowed the crowd at Su-pima’s inaugural design competition with his Supima inspired collection that included a couture wedding dress made from men’s shirting fabric. Guadarrama went on to win the first installment of the SDC and has never looked back.

Today the designer is known for his modern take on classic silhouettes and the breadth of his collec-

tions that encompasses everything from menswear to avant-garde couture.

Guadarrama can now add television to his resume after being selected to participate in the latest installment of Bravo’s Project Runway series. Hosted by Super Model and Entrepreneur Karlie Kloss, season 18 of Proj-ect Runway sees Guadarrama compete against 15 of his peers for a chance to win the $250,000 grand prize.

Tune into Project Runway every Thursday at 9:30/8:30c to cheer on and support Guadarrama on his journey to become the Project Runway season 18 winner.
