END OF TERM ONEEND OF TERM ONE
Term one has flown by very quickly. I would like to take this opportunity to thank staff, parents and community members of Aveley Primary School for their efforts and support
in ensuring a smooth start to the 2016 school year.
To our students, well done for your super efforts this term. I have enjoyed the chance to view a range of fantastic work and have been impressed with the general standard of behaviour by everyone. In particular, I am impressed with our School’s Student Leaders. They should all be very proud of the fine standard they model for all the students of our
school.
This fine effort by all members of our school community continues to make our school a
wonderful place to be.
ANZAC SERVICEANZAC SERVICE
Aveley Primary School community members are invited to attend our 2016 ANZAC Day
Service. This service will be held on Thursday, 7 April commencing at 9am.
MENTAL HEALTH AND WEMENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEINGLLBEING
To support an approach in ensuring our school community has a positive and proactive focus on mental health and wellbeing, I will be including a range of information in up and coming newsletters. I would encourage families to talk to your children about this information. Limit the content and keep it simple for younger children. Over the dinner
table while sharing a meal would be a great place to start.
Communication
You can use communication skills to talk to people assertively without being aggressive or hostile. Talking to people straight away (unless you are furious) can help resolve things before they become issues. Listening and body language are both important parts of communication. You should talk about the good as well as the bad.
Tips for getting better communication skills is attached to this newsletter.
SCHOOL UNIFORMSSCHOOL UNIFORMS
Please note that our school based uniform shop closes at the end of this term. On behalf of the school community I would like to thank the P & C and all the volunteers who
have assisted with uniform sales since our school opened.
Uniforms will be available at Lowes in Ellenbrook shops as from Thursday, 21 April.

PARKING/TRAFFIC ISSUPARKING/TRAFFIC ISSUES ES
With ongoing student growth, parking and traffic issues will continue to be an issue for our school. The Department of Education has recently carried out a Parking Audit on our school site with the results and follow up from this being available in the next couple of weeks. The City of Swan has been issuing warnings to vehicles parked illegally around our school and they will be issuing infringement notices as
from the commencement of Term 2.
I would encourage families to take the opportunity to walk and ride to school when
possible and also to make use of the car parks at the eastern end of the oval.
Ensuring safety for all members of our school community is the responsibility of us all.
Best wishes to everyone for a safe and restful holiday. Staff will return to school on
Tuesday 26 April and students will return on Wednesday 27 April.

SCHOOL PHOTOS SCHOOL PHOTOS
Our school photo day is Monday, 4 and Tuesday, 5 April. Students are to wear their formal uniform which is the grey embroidered shirt for boys and the checked dress for
girls. Please refer to the following Photo Schedule for your photo day.
The recommended method of ordering your photos is online through Kapture’s website as your payment is secure and can be easily verified at any time. Alternatively you can pay by cash and return the provided envelope to the school on the photography day. If
you place your order online please DO NOT return your envelope to school.
Any parent who forgets or is unable to supply their envelope on the photo day will have five (5) days to complete an order online. Late payment envelopes cannot be accepted
by the school office or by Kapture.
You also have the option to order a sibling photo package online, however please be aware there may be a limited number of sibling orders that can be placed due to time constraints on photo day. We suggest you place your online sibling order as early as possible to avoid disappointment. Sibling photos for those with Kindy students will
be taken on the day your child attends for Kindy.
Kapture offer a money back guarantee for any parent who is not fully satisfied with their photo package. Should you have any queries before or after photo day, please direct
them to the Kapture office on 9240 1714 or email [email protected].

NEW DIGITAL RESOURCENEW DIGITAL RESOURCESS
Thanks to the fantastic support of our Aveley Primary School parents and community we collected a massive 25,006 points during the Woolworths Earn and Learn Program last year. Using these points we were able to purchase a number of educational
tools to support our focus on developing digital literacy through the technologies curriculum.
We have now added to our collection some introduction to coding board games, 4 programmable beebot robots and a wide range of snap-together, colour-coded pieces that the students can use to build circuits. These tools will allow for students to creatively invent and develop solutions to every day problems. We gave them a test run at our CoderDojo session on Thursday and they were a bit hit. We are looking forward to seeing some of the awesome work the children will do as these tools are integrated into
the classroom this year.

HARMONY DAYHARMONY DAY
A wonderful collection of cultural dress was on display at last weeks assembly. A big thank you to Mrs Hewitt and Mrs Cullen who ran the assembly and to students and staff who participated in the dress up. It was lovely to see the varied backgrounds of school
members.
AVELEY PRIMARY SCHOOL PARENTS & CITIZENS ASSOCIATION
Welcome back! We hope everyone had a great Easter break.
Our first term fundraising has moved along nicely with the Hot Cross Bun drive, the Connect Event parking and our Quick Raffle of
free passes to The Maze.
With over 1300 Hot Cross Buns ordered we managed quite well getting them delivered with just a couple of glitches but overall an excellent result. Our day at the Connect Event was also a success with many people happy to pay to support the school. Congratulations to the Reynolds family on winning the free passes to The Maze and we are sure they will have a fun day at the
local attraction. Thanks to all the volunteers that helped with these events.
A reminder that we are selling the Entertainment Book and you can support the school by getting your copy from us. It is filled with vouchers for excellent discounts from Hotels, Cinemas, Restaurants, Holidays and others. You can pre-order the 2016-17 books now and you will find the link to our selling page on the Aveley P&C Facebook page, or if you visit the Entertainment Book website search for the Aveley Primary School
selling page. We will have some flyers on noticeboards and around the school with further information.
The Uniform Shop Clearance Sale is continuing until the end of term and that means you only have one
more day (next Wednesday) to get your bargain uniform items. Lowes will be stocking the uniforms from Thursday, 21 April.
School banking is rolling along with many savers getting their rewards already. Banking is on Tuesday mornings in the undercover
area. If you can help out with this, please see Helen Baker.
The P&C plays an important part in the school process and it is with the help of parents and friends who volunteer their time helping out that creates an effective P&C. Please join us to help the school provide a better learning environment for your children. Any amount
of your time or skills donated will be appreciated by the whole school community.
To contact the P&C or to keep up with what we are doing you can email us at [email protected], find our Facebook page,
see our news in the newsletter or approach any of our committee members.
Our next meeting will be held in the library at 6:30pm on 16th May and of course everyone is welcome to attend.
We hope everyone enjoys the upcoming holidays and will see you next term.
