The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to keep still. Exodus 14:14 Dear Members of the Trinity Family, At our very core, many of us believe that our value and worth as human beings is found in the tasks we accomplish, the good works we perform, and the busyness of our daily schedule. We feel loved and valued when we are successful, when we are getting things done, when we are efficient, productive, and on the move. This way of seeing the world and our lives is certainly not Lutheran. In our minds we know that we are saved by Gods grace and not by works of the law. And yet, in spite of that fact, we still strive for constant activity and busyness in our lives. Stillness, solitude, rest, and quiet are not valued in our world. Taking time to be still, to rest in Gods presence, to enjoy solitude, peace, and quiet is not an activity that the world promotes or encourages. But in Gods kingdom, stillness, solitude, rest, and quiet are essential to the life of faith. It is imperative that we take the time to rest, to pray, to read scripture, to be grateful, to relax into the loving embrace of God. This time of stillness allows us to heal and recover from all the hurt, pain, and suffering that we experience in the world. We need this time with God to remember who we are, to cherish our identity as Gods beloved, precious, baptized children. In the coming weeks as you settle into new routines, I encourage you to set aside some moments in your busy schedule to be still, silent, and at peace. This time is not wasted time. This time alone with God and away from the pressures of the world will give you new perspective. It will calm your anxiety and relieve your worries and fears. This time spent in stillness and solitude will affirm your value in Gods kingdom. It will replenish your joy and bring you hope and healing. The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to keep still. Exodus 14:14

Dear Members of the Trinity Family,

At our very core, many of us believe that our value and worth as human beings is found in the tasks we accomplish, the good works we perform, and the busyness of our daily schedule. We feel loved and valued when we are successful, when we are getting things done, when we are efficient, productive, and on the move. This way of seeing the world and our lives is certainly not Lutheran. In our minds we know that we are saved by God’s grace and not by works of the law. And yet, in spite of that fact, we still strive for constant activity and busyness in our lives.

Stillness, solitude, rest, and quiet are not valued in our world. Taking time to be still, to rest in God’s presence, to enjoy solitude, peace, and quiet is not an activity that the world promotes or encourages. But in God’s kingdom, stillness, solitude, rest, and quiet are essential to the life of faith. It is imperative that we take the time to rest, to pray, to read scripture, to be grateful, to relax into the loving embrace of God. This time of stillness allows us to heal and recover from all the hurt, pain, and suffering that we experience in the world. We need this time with God to remember who we are, to cherish our identity as God’s beloved, precious, baptized children.

This time spent in stillness and solitude will affirm your value in God’s kingdom. It will replenish your joy and bring you hope and healing.

Peace, love, and joy,

Pastor Susan Crowell
