ARTISTS

“IN THE MIDS, ART OF INNOVATION”Artists Shaping the history of today’s ART world

by Viviana Puello

Passion and inspiration have been the catalysts for the most precious works of art throughout history; we all cherish the legacies left behind by masters we admire, and we look back to their creations and dedication with awe. They consolidated the links existing between each other, developed new relationships, sought out new inspirations and pictorial means and began movements that shaped the history of art as we now know it. Except for those who had a comfortable financial situation, many of them faced periods of bitter poverty; they painted in the open air, researching the optical phenomena of light and color which enamored them, and rustically developed techniques for the creation of high quality materials that would become the creative elements of their masterpieces. There is so much left for us - the artists of today - to learn from.

We are now in a whole new era, the time of information and technology. Computer use has changed the way most people do business, including those in the art field. Artists, animators, photographers and filmmakers use computers to create their art, as well as implementing the resources for much more. With the advent of computer technology came the ability to preserve artworks in digital format, as well as speeding up art distribution and professional promotion via the world-wide web. The wonder of the internet and the magic of social media have been my allies as a curator - to discover and follow a group of fantastic artists whose careers I have seen emerge and whose techniques have developed to a master level.

The group of artists we are presenting at the "In the Mids" Art of Innovation International Art exhibition will be taking part in and helping to shape the art history of our generation. We will be presenting to you a variety of artistic excellence, from paintings, mixed media works to sculptures and oil paintings reflecting a diverse and wide spectrum of media and techniques.

To harness the flexibility and power of these rapidly evolving creative systems, there is a need for radically new foundational ideas and principles. There is a need to develop effective principles for building and analyzing such systems, along with the necessity to open up our minds and explore beyond what we have traditionally recognized as art. The artist of today is the perfect creator - the one I see with awe and admiration and the one creating a new legacy for the generation of tomorrow. No limitations, no competition, no need to be better than the other, but just the need to be - no need to overachieve, just a need to create - no need to sacrifice, just the need to enjoy the process.

The artists of today are versatile, using everything and anything that comes to mind or to their hands that triggers the fountain of their inspiration: a lot of times even using recycled materials or choosing specific subjects to convey a message that would serve as a contribution to better our society, to improve the environment and the world we all live in. Above all, we are mysteriously connected to a whole, like light bulbs that are all plugged in to a single source of energy and emanate different colors of light. If you go deep and explore, you will find a unique message - a song that is sang in unison.

Through my works I want to get the audience excited about Art, evoke f e e l i n g s a n d n e w thoughts , br ing o ld memories and dreams, and show my passion.

My passion is to draw with pen and ink. I found the philosophy of life in this black and while unity.Sometimes I feel a need for color, and I add to my black and while compositions some burst of colours. It brings a lot of new and fresh themes, and gives me the new opportunities to express my feelings and thoughfs. I like to play with lines, watch them to float and create the new images. My other passion is painting with acrylic.Regardless of ihe motive, acrylic paint portrays a symphony of color - it is a real treat and celebration of colours! I like the special brightness and flexibility of acrylic paint, with endless possibilities for experimentations. Sometimes I like to paint all prima, and apply the first impression, the fleeting visions of reality. For This reason I like to work with watercolour paint and draw with watercolour pencils as well.My Art comes from the heart. It is my personal experience and dream world, my escape from triviality, and power to speak about lyric and dramatic poetry of life. For me Art is not an imitation of nature, and in my works I like lo show the beauty of the ordinary things.I create works with combination of reality and wonderland, painting landscapes and portraits with mystery realism. I draw fantasy and allegory compositions, showing the enhancement of nature. I get inspired by the music, nature, travel impressions, and some memories and observations. In years I developed my own artistic style based on the traditions of some European and Asian artistic

Divisions, like Synthetism, with its usage of vivid colours and some simplications of forms.I exhibited in Canada, USA, Italy, France, Russia, and Kazakhstan. My resent Solo Exhibition is “Wonderful Promenade” in Gallery Monteoliveto, Nice, France during the Nice Carnival 2012 year. My art works can be found in many, mostly private collections around the world, and many online galleries.

Jennifer's inspiration comes from the streets of New York City, the vibes of everyday life in this amazing place. Jen was born in a small town in Ohio, and has h a d a s p e c i a l

relationship with NYC ever since she moved to Manhattan, nearly twenty years ago. Love for city is an integral part of her life, and her art. Jen use acrylics, metals, resins, plastics, keys, marbles, maps and signs that she salvages from the streets to enrich her paintings and sculptures. She  expresses herself best through the diverse materials and objects that she interacts with every day.

Urban living is full of fast paced movement. It’s a beat that one either loves or loathes. Jen loves the rhythm of New York City – and it defines and inspires her work, beating to the same drum that she moves to. This space is where her artistic impulses find higher meaning. The city drives Jen to create and then to appreciate the quiet and stillness with God even more..Jennifer has exhibited internationally in Rome, Germany and Paris, France. Her collectors are from all over the world! She believes that supporting charities that she cares about, is a big part of her inspiration, feeding into and motivating her art!

Jen has a BA in Art History from SUNY Purchase, NY

I like to create art that has immediate impact, and a residual mental tickle. This is a series I call “Visual Riddles.” It’s a tribute to pop culture, and incorporates a list of

relevant personalities or phrases, anchored by an oversized painting of everyday objects that somehow link with that list of words. I enjoy it when the linkage is playful and less than overt. Some of the references are famous luminaries. Others are more obscure curve balls. In either event, they are a rather personal list that provides a marriage between words and pictures. It all started innocently enough, with a painting called “The M&M’s.” I was attracted to the near perfect shapes and bright colors of these “melt in your mouth” candies, but was stumped for a background. I started doodling different M&M’s, such as Marilyn Monroe and

Mickey Mantle. The list became its own form of amusement. It also became a contrapuntal backdrop for shiny, supersized orbs of color. This led to other lists and other images-- Lifesavers, Jacks, Chunkies, Smarties. Twinkies, Fifth Avenue, Flip flops. I began looking in cupboards and drawers and found that just about any product or household object could generate a dotted line list of luminaries. Quite frankly I am still amazed at how these everyday objects can suggestan emotional reference to people and events. I like to keep the image big and bold enough to sometimes obliterate the words, or at least make it challenging for the viewer to fill in the blanks. I paint with watercolor for translucency and finish with some pastel touches to help bring the image forward. Some have called it “art with a sense of humor.” I am complimented by that, since I believe that for any two-dimensional piece to bring layers of pleasure is a worthy goal.

My interest in drawing, painting and designing began at a very early age.My paintings convey a fee l ing o f harmony between nature and humanity, featuring a

dab of art deco... a dash of the surreal... and a touch of aboriginal charm.I’m pleased to know that art—lovers find my work thought-provoking, meaningful, and worthy of frequent visits. My objective is to continue working in my own contemporary style, combined with techniques of the old masters — in an expression of optimism, joy and serenity.

I have a reverence for art as a communication tool.I feel that art, when it’s at its best, speaks from the deepest part of uswith a language that has no words.

I work with a strong abstract line but I go beyond pure design to make statements about human nature.

The details of my work are both specific and universal. An open hand polished to a shining clarity speaks of truth.A strong stance signifies strength and permanence. Wings of parachute material symbolize freedom. My sculptures are statements of my belief that we are capable of far more than we are led to believe.I want my art to inspire you to dream, to reach, to fly.

Lebanese artist Roula Chreim explains that b e t w e e n e x t e n s i v e traveling in her previous c a r e e r , a n d b e i n g d isp laced a f te r her

house was destroyed, ''home'' has become a crucial place and idea in her life and work.... As a young artist, she began painting small houses and meadows from her former inspiring town, Salhieh.Throughout her life, Roula has visited more than 135 cities and communities in 37 different countries. This gave her the opportunity to blend with the local cultures and explore the origins of the ART they produce. Accordingly, many of her mixed-media

canvas, which frequently incorporate objects found during her extensive travels, portray homes, or inhabitants of other cultures. She paints her figures, interior scenes and cityscapes with an aesthetic that evokes both Symbolism and German Expressionism with fleeting hints of Primitivism, but retains many unique characteristics, such as a preference for rectilinear human figures, buildings and balanced compositions.Roula's passion for colors is reflected in her art. Each of her Abstract works is incredibly elemental having a sublime quality shedding sensuous, romantic composure which convey a rich passion that is compelling. Collectively, her contemporary works are vivid, expressionist paintings that communicate profound feelings to the viewer.

In my artistic practice, I create paintings that e x p r e s s e m o t i o n s through the use of colour, form and texture.

I strive to depict the complex mood of a moment, drawing inspiration from nature and life experiences. My goal is to create paintings that inspire a dialogue with the viewer, and create a space or moment for reflection.

Welcome to my trip....            Encounter of a magical momentI love life and everyday I am thinking how lucky we are to experience t h i s w o n d e r f u l

adventure. I had so much fun making this art. I hope you will enjoy too I am Originally from Salon de Provence in the South of France.I am currently living in Sydney -  Australia since 9 years. My concept of work :           Capturing the present with loveFor me, Its like a moment of magic happens in my eyes. At the core level, when that pleases me and makes me very happy I consider the piece complete.I like to work by instinct. The transformation has to be quick like when you take a photo. Clic! And its done. I am ready to pass on to another one because for me the first instance of love is the most beautiful.

Philosophy is a big influence in my visual art. For example, we say there is one world and one universe. I believe each animal species has their own reality and for me each reality is true.Imagine if the whole fabric of our science was informed from the point of view of another animal or plant life! The reality would be very different from our human perspective. What if it was seen from a bees point of view? What if the multiple facets of the bees eyes correspond to multiple worlds, multiple realities? If we consider reality from say a flowers point of view, we might be able to open up and be more accepting of life and the world  just as nature is so accepting of us ; we could be accepting of other realities that exist while our own is existing. The more we can open to these ideas, the faster we can accept new realities. To stay open to others realities and not be sure about anything that we've been taught  to always leave a question mark.Thats part of my message.....

“I have been a ceramic artist for over 15 years, i n i t i a l l y c r e a t i n g designer home wares. My recent work has c o n c e n t r a t e d o n a varied range of ceramic tile paintings. These

paintings have really been inspired by the amazing tile murals that I’ve admired throughout Europe. I feel that my work is a modern day version of this old world ceramic art. I love travel and different cultures, I’m always dreaming of far off places, and creating these artworks takes me away to my favorite places around the world.I am really captivated by an urban landscape, the charming old buildings, beautiful colours and pretty

streets. They lead me to wonder about the history of a place, the people who have been there before and events that have taken place. I think that is one reason why I really love the charm of the old buildings and lovely streets and towns in countries like France, Italy or Spain. I also think Sydney, Australia (where I am from) has some beautiful old Terrace houses which have inspired a number of my recent works. I try to create bright, happy and beautiful paintings that reflect wonderful memories and happy times, I hope that other people see that too and it makes them feel good.I have been exhibiting my work in numerous group exhibitions in Australia, as well as a number of solo exhibitions. I’ve been really thrilled with how well my work has been received and this has encouraged me to keep going forward to create larger and more detailed works.”
