The Eisenhower Middle/High School

Community welcomed Ms. Betsy

Sobkowski as our new assistant principal

in December!

Grandparent Gala

The annual Grandparent Gala was held in conjunction with

the Scholastic book fair the library on the day before the

holiday break. Grandparents and parents were invited to

attend for a program of instrumental holiday music,

doughnuts, prizes, and of course the chance to shop for

books. The program ended with a family friendly movie

presentation in the auditorium. A good time was held by all.

YMCA Field Trip

The seventh graders made their

annual trip to the local YMCA.

Each year, the seventh grade class

is given a year long pass to begin

a regiment of healthy living. The

group goes down and has the

opportunity to experience some

of the many different activities

the YMCA offers. Sometimes

even the teachers get involved.

Mrs. Richardson is seen here

climbing the rock wall. Way to go

Mrs. Richardson!

and Still Life with Tornado. Here are a few students browsing through

her books. One of A.S. King’s book is up for consideration in a

potential 2020-2021 Battle of the Books.

State Wrestling

Three of our middle school wrestlers competed for state titles

recently at the Johnstown War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, PA.

PI Day 2020 Pi is the mathematical

infinite number which

corresponds to a circle’s

circumference in reference to

its diameter. It begins with the

numbers 3.14. Every year, the math

department does something special to recognize Pi on March

14. This year, Mrs. Richardson had her students compose

some Pi-kus. In ELA, a haiku is three line poem with three

syllables in the first line, seven in the second line and five in

the third line. With a Pi-ku, there are three syllables in the

first line, one in the second, and four in the last. Here are a

few examples from our future mathematical poets.

Middle School Student Government

This year, Mr. Heubach and Mrs. Richardson started a branch of student council exclusively for middle level. It has empowered students to have a voice in their school lives which is part of the middle school philosophy (AMLE). It ran Monday-Wednesday on the Week A. Students create motivational signs and sticky notes, plan activities for middle school and discuss other issues. Members are seen planning for a St. Patrick’s Day event which will involve the entire middle school.

Seussical the Musical Several of our Eisenhower Middle School students participated in the Warren County Junior district musical Seussical. Pictured below are: Ethan Riggin, Aylssa Wismar, Caroline Smyth and Peyton Kellogg. Also involved from Eisenhower Lilly Cathcart, Layla Edwards, and Ava Hice. Unfortunately, due to school closings, the production was cancelled. We look forward to seeing these students in future productions. We have a great deal of talent here at Eisenhower!

BANDFEST 2020

The PMEA Elementary Bandfest was to take

place May 6 at North East HS. The students

were just beginning to prepare their music for

the all day festival. The guest conductor was

to be Mr. Brian Gresh. The following students

were to attend from 6th Grade: Keeley Alcorn, Logan Penley, Rebecca

Penley, Emily Hagadorn, and Laney Belche

Pound Fitness in Advisory

Do you feel motivated

when you listen to

music? POUND is a

fitness workout that

takes cardio to a whole

new level by pairing it

with music and lightly

weighted drum

sticks. Pound provides

the perfect atmosphere

for students to let loose, get motivated, do some cardio and rockout!

Mrs. Richardson is a trained Pound Pro and is happily

conducting Pound classes during B week advisory. Currently,

the pound advisory group has 21 students from both middle and high

school who get to rock out each B week. Pound's philosophies include

believing in the power of music, unleashing aggression, uncovering

rhythms, and building friendships all while working out to improve the

body. Conducting Pound in the auditorium each week has allowed

students to get the full experience of loud music and the hard hit of

the ripstix (lightly weighted drum sticks). Pound's Beat Ballad begins

with "Pound is a place where the rhythm rules. Where the beat

becomes us at every age and any

stage. Movement musicians are

born!" This beginning ballad is really

what Pound is all about. If interested in

signing up next year, look for the link in

the spring for advisory sign ups 2020-

2021!

Battle of the Books This year we sent two teams to “The Battle of the Books” at Gannon

University on March 6. Students on both teams read twenty-four

books over the course of the year and competed against teams from

across Warren and Erie counties. The goal was to earn the most points

over four rounds. All had a great time. Miss Livingston even got an

opportunity to work with her sister, Mrs. Dobryznski from Union City

Area Middle School.

Battle of the Books 2021

Miss Livingston, Mrs. Dobryznski from Union City and Mrs. Benson from North East

are planning the annual middle school portion of the event. There are some factors

which may affect the festivities as you are aware, so we are waiting to see how

things are going to work out before sending out a list. We are hoping for the best,

but at this time, we just don’t know. More details will be announced as they become

available. We will keep you posted. Have a great summer!

Vex Tower Takeover

Students recently participated in Vex Tower Takeover

recently. Teams of two robots face in a mix of pick and

place soccer/basketball. They build and program robots

to move, stack and place cubes in baskets or stack cubes in corners designated for

red team vs blue team.

They have a 15 second autonomous challenge where students must program the

robots to move and try to place cubes in 15 seconds. Then it is all up to the

driver/controller of the robot to finish the game by having a remote control

programmed to their robot to navigate the game and score points or defend

against the other team blocking them from scoring. It's pretty fun! Yesterday

was a set up and practice day. Two WCSD schools never even worked with the

robots until that day! Students participating included: Cricket Branstrom, Haley

Eckmam, Justin Darr, Payton Frank, Emilie Jones, Kyler Black, Tucker Lindell, Kris

Bunk, Cole Kellogg, Katie Bunk, and Shawn Pascuzzi.

What is So Cool about Manufacturing?

Congratulations to the students recently created a video for

the PA Forest and Oil Region Contest. They were awarded The

Most Creativity Award for their efforts. Students were given

the opportunity to pair with an industry and then create a

video about that industry. They worked with Betts Industries

on the project. Students who participated included; Noel

Alexander, Andria Anderson, Rhiannon Cook, Alyssa Wismar,

Peyton Kellogg, Cierra Sherwood, Casey Seymour, and Gracie

Tomasoni.

Spelling Bee

Recently, Eisenhower Middle School students participated in the

We sent two winners to the district spelling bee in February and

also had two alternates. Congratulations to all!
