I AM THE KITE by Elana Killilea (written 2/2/07)
I am the kite, El Shaddai You, the wind under my wings. You lift me high and higher until
I am lighter and lighter. I have no shape.
My body becomes cumulus cloud. I am Elananess.
Dispersed in Goddess, I am weightless, yet full, complete,
Without markings, delineation, characterization Without virtue or vice.
I AM. I AM. I am Elananess
Essence within Essence. I am free.
Fully conscious of my presence within the Presence. The Trinity, a metaphor
For the multiplicity that is the Unity of God. Goddess, like an amoeba
Constantly reproducing herself, Each new essence, a unique replica
Capable of reflecting the magnitude of her being.
Recessional Hymn:
Dancing with God by Mechtild de Madeburg
I cannot dance, O Lord, unless you lead me
And if you want me to leap for joy
Then you must be the first to dance and to sing
And I will follow you, in your echo I will ring.
Then, only then, then, only then, then, only then,
Will I leap for joy.
I cannot sing, O Lord, unless you lead me
And if you want me to sing for joy
You must be the first to sing out your song
And I will follow you and sing right along
Then, only then, then, only then, then, only then,
Will I sing for joy.
Lead me on in your joyful dancing
I will follow in your dance of life,
Than all my living will be true to you, my loving God.
God picks up the reed-flute world and blows.
Each note is a need coming through one of us,
a passion, a longing-pain.
Remember the lips
where the wind-breath originated,
and let your note be clear.
Don’t try to end it.
Be your note.
I’ll show you how it’s enough.
Go up on the roof at night
in this city of the soul.
Let everyone climb on their roofs
and sing their notes!
Sing loud!
~Rumi (Ancient Sufi Mystic)
“When we put our heads on the pillow at night, let us imagine all creation
on rooftops...singing their note...a full-throated symphony to LOVE’S first
breath...OM!” ~Elana Killilea
Stone and Sand and Sea and Sky
by Atlantic Heart
Stone and sand and sea and sky
Rest my heart and please my eye
I will go and not ask why
Stone and sand and sea and sky
Early morning rise and walk
Listen to the sea stone talk
Wild geese flock above me high
Stone and sand and sea and sky
Soon the wind is holding me
Clears my mind so easily
Open, open to the song
Wind and sea have played so long
I am strengthened by the sea
Something broken mends in me
Hold me til the day I die
Stone and sand and sea and sky
Stone and sand and sea and sky
I am free to laugh and cry
I feel the spirit lift me high
Stone and sand and sea and sky
Stone and sand and sea and sky
Rest my heart and please my eye
I will go and not ask why
Stone and sand and sea and sky
I will go and not ask why
Stone and sand and sea and sky
Reflection after Communion:
Prelude:
This Ancient Love by Carolyn McDade
Long before the night was born from darkness
Long before the dawn rolled unsteady from fire
Long before She wrapped her scarlet arms around the hills
There was a love
This ancient love was born
Long before the grass spotted green the bare hillside
Long before a wing unfolded to the wind
Long before She wrapped her long blue arms around the sea
There was a love
This ancient love was born
Long before a chain was forged from the hillside
Long before a voice uttered freedom’s cry
Long before She wrapped her bleeding arms around a child
There was a love
This ancient love was born
Long before the name of a God was spoken
Long before a cross was nailed from a tree
Long before She laid her arms of colors cross the sky
There was a love
This ancient love was born
Wakeful our night, slumbers our morning
Stubborn the grass sowing green wounded hills
As we wrap our healing arms to hold what her arms held
This Ancient Love, this Aching Love
Rolls on
*** The songs, prayers and poems for Elana’s Memorial
Service were chosen from among her favorites. She listened
to, sang along with, and read them all frequently up to her
last day on Earth. May our voices echo hers today.

Morning Prayer by Gertrude the Great

To a day better spent with you than 1000 far away

I rise with you, my glorious morning light
Christ my rising sun, you turn my night to day
My soul’s clearest light, my morning’s brightest star
Oh Christ come to greet me now in this sacred hour

I wait and watch for you
To dawn upon my heart
Oh Christ fill me with your light
Your glorious grace impart
LITURGY OF THE WORD
1st Reading: Wisdom 3: 1-9
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 69 by Nan Merrill
Repsonse: “Let me come once again to your Table, Beloved.”
Let me come once again to your Table, Beloved, forgive all
that separates me from You, that I might be made whole.
Let me see with the heart’s eye; let me hear through the
heart’s ear, Give me the sensitivity to hear your Word and the
courage to speak it.
May my home become a house of prayer, that others might
come to bask in your Presence. May those who have been
oppressed and persecuted come and find safety and solace within
its doors.

Communion Song:
How Wonderful Is My Soul by Mechtild of Magdeburg
How wonderful is my soul
Which you my God have created
Nothing can truly show its beauty
Nothing can truly set me free
Except your love flowing through my being
Speaking to me of things unknown
And in your love flowing through my being
My soul awakens to you Holy One
And the joy of this awakening just cannot be described
Nothing can truly tell its wonders
Nothing can ever give such peace
Except your love flowing through my being
Speaking to me of things unknown
And in your love flowing through my being
My soul awakens to you, Holy One
Holy One, Holy One, Holy One
