Stitch a super simple infi nity

scarf to add color to a dull winter

day. The scarf takes only minutes

to construct and you can wear it

in a variety of creative ways.

5 Ways to Wear 1. Basic Cowl: Wrap the scarf twice

around your neck; evenly adjust the loops.

2. Double Cowl: Wrap the scarf twice around your neck, and then pull one loop to drape longer than the other.

3. Shawl: Place the scarf around your shoulders, and then adjust the fab-ric to drape over your upper arms.

4. Hood: Wrap the scarf twice around your neck, and then pull one loop over the back of your head.

5. Bolero: Pull your arms through the loop from behind and drape the fabric over your shoulders.

SUPPLIES

14”x60” strip each of 2 coordinating

knit fabrics

All-purpose thread

Hand sewing needle

Serger (optional)

SEW IT

Align the strips with right sides together; pin.

Set the serger to a 3-thread overlock stitch. If using a conventional sewing machine, select a narrow zigzag stitch. Stitch the strip long edges, leaving a 4”opening along one edge for turning. Turn the strip right side out.

Turn the strip inside itself toward the wrong side, pulling the fabric through the tube until the short ends are aligned with right sides together. Align the long seams; pin, and then stitch the short ends (1).

Turn the scarf right side out through the opening. Slipstitch the opening closed. e

(Tip)To identify a knit fabric’s

right and wrong sides, stretch a small section; the raw edge will roll toward

the wrong side.

Style OptionsFollow these tips to change the look of your scarf:

7 To create a longer scarf with even more style options, piece fabric strips along the short ends to achieve the desired length.

7 For a glamorous touch, stitch a length of sequined or beaded trim along one strip lengthwise center before constructing the scarf.

7 Add interest by using a drapey sweater-knit fabric or a textured knit.

7 For a breezy summer scarf, select a lightweight woven fabric, such as gauze or voile.

7 Make a monochromatic scarf by using the same fabric for both layers. Or add pop by combining two coordinating prints, such as a stripe and a fl oral print.
