The Bloody Truth by the Vein to Vein Blood Management Committee

Did you know that blood products loose temperature quickly? Safe administration of blood products includes transfusion within 30 minutes of blood product delivery. When returning blood products to the blood bank, please remember most products are wasted if left out for more than 10 minutes, or if not stored UNDER ice in the coolers

Tech Tips and Tools: Google is More than a Search Engine by Galyn Glick Martin

IN THE KNOW

Most people know Google for its search engine but not everyone is aware that Google does more than find answers. The company also creates a number of high-quality programs that anyone can use for free and often they are as good as or better than some software you might already use. But one of the biggest benefits is that you can store the items on the cloud, which means you can access your information from any computer or smart phone.

For personal email, I use Gmail (google’s email program) but two other Google favorites are the following, Google Docs and Picasa:

Google Docs You can upload, download, email, and export documents in Word and Excel format. The screen and the tools look and act very much like the Microsoft Office suite of products—and in some cases they are even more user-friendly. Additionally, Google Docs even allows you to create a fillable webform that you can use to collect information for a variety of reasons. When someone fills out the form, it’s entered directly on a spreadsheet. You can keep the information private or share it with others on your team.

Picasa Download Picasa from Google for one of the best and easiest photo editors out there. But photo editing isn’t the only reason to get Picasa—it also helps organize your photos in easy-to-find files. Although the program doesn’t move the images around, it categorizes them by month or date or upload. It also makes them easy to email or send off for prints.

I’ve barely scratched the surface, so when you have a little free time, visit Google, create a free account if you don’t have one, and look at all they have to offer. It can make your work life, and personal life, run just a little smoother.

DUST!!!

Vanderbilt Children's Hospital

The Joint Commission is looking at how organizations process and store their laryngoscope blades. Some key recommendations include:

The blades are either processed using sterilization or high level disinfection (when unable to sterilize).

Blades are packaged and stored to pre-vent recontamination (i.e peel package).

Laryngoscope handles are cleaned after each use with a low level disinfectant (i.e sani-wipes).

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR ME?
