The 2,500 fans who converged on the Seventh Regiment Armory for the finals of the 44th annual tour- nament may have seen the begin- ning of a two-way universal grand slam. The two Los Angeles cham- pions have dedicated themselves to winning all the major titles of the world in 1947, which they hint will be their last year in the ama- teur game. Kramer was at his sparkling best as he wrapped up the men's singles titles for the first time with a crushing straight-set triumph over young Bob Falkenburg, the national intercollegiate champion from Los Angeles, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2. Miss Betz, who also numbers the Wimbledon championship among her present title posses- sions, was nearly as impressive In the feminine finale, where she defeated Doris Hart of Coral Gables, Fla., 6-2, 7-5. Kramer, hero of America's suc- cessful Davis Cup conquests in 1946, was the complete master of his fellow townsman, who had reached the finals with an upset victory over second-seeded Billy Talbert. He handled Falkenburg's lightning service as if he owned it. Neither Falkenburg's cannon ball serve nor his fine cross-court shots posed any problems for Kramer. ... « Ridley Cagers Down Nichols School, 50-46 Nichols School closed its basket- ball season yesterday with a 50-46 loss to Ridley College, at St. Cath- arines. By AUSTIN BEALMEAR New York, Mar. 8 UP)—Auto

matic Jack Kramer and golden-haired Pauline Betz assumed complete c o m m a n d of American amateur tennis today when they captured the national indoor championships and piled them on top of the turf court singles titles they won last Summer.

The 2,500 fans who converged on the Seventh Regiment Armory for the finals of the 44th annual tournament may have seen the beginning of a two-way universal grand slam. The two Los Angeles champions have dedicated themselves to winning all the major titles of the world in 1947, which they hint will be their last year in the amateur game.

Kramer was at his sparkling best as he wrapped up the men's singles titles for the first time with a crushing straight-set triumph over young Bob Falkenburg, the national intercollegiate champion from Los Angeles, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2.

Miss Betz, who also numbers the Wimbledon championship among her present title possessions, was nearly as impressive In the feminine finale, where she defeated Doris Hart of Coral Gables, Fla., 6-2, 7-5. Kramer, hero of America's suc

cessful Davis Cup conquests in 1946, was the complete master of his fellow townsman, who had reached the finals with an upset victory over second-seeded Billy Talbert. He handled Falkenburg's lightning service as if he owned it. Neither Falkenburg's cannon ball serve nor his fine cross-court shots posed any problems for Kramer.

After losing a six-point halftlme * lead, Lockport High School's scrappy quintet staged a spectacular last-quarter rally to upset Niagara Falls Higti's defending champions, 47-41, in the final of the Niagara Frontier League playoffs in the Kenmore Junior High School gym last night.

Remarkable ability to hit from outside paid big dividends for ths Lock City cagers. Howie McKeever, who looped in a total of 17 points, caged seven buckets on set shots for the sides, while Bd Crowe dunked four quarter-court deuces in the first half.

Sparked by McKeever and Crowe, Lockport carved out a 28-17 margin In the first half, but Ben Sicoli quickly erased the deficit, and Wiley Cairns paced a Niagara Falls drive that gave the Cataracts a six-point advantage at the three-quarter mark. Lockport knotted the count mid

way through the final quarter, and finally moved ahead on two successive buckets by McKeever, who caged eight points la the last abx minutes. Dave Haley, who entered the game in the last quarter, followed with a pair of quickies to put the victory on ice.

In addition to annexing the playoff trophy, Lockport qualified for the Section 6 title playoff.

"That's when I !u'£»aii to love

Cigars I naturally lean towards cigar smoking/* says a young

physician."But I always backed away from strong, heady cigars. While I was out in the Philippines, I recalled smoking Robt. Burns Panatelas with an impression of mildness. I got a half dozen from PX. I smoked them, and pronto, I knew that was my kind of smoking.

Men never think of a Robt. Burns Panatela as a bulky cigar and a heavy smoke. It prides itself on its streamlined gracefulness, yet offers a full measure of luxurious smoking. Plenty of luscious taste in its 100% choice All-Havana filler, balanced to give distinctive flavor.

Look at the record. More Robt. Burns Panatelas have been smoked than the total of all other high grade panatelas.
